a book where community plays a role (i.e a small town setting)
cloth, wood, paper, clay, metal are typical types of folk art, but also similar to anniversary gifts - maybe tie a task to types of gifts (or do it as one of the 5 point/10 point tasks)
learning techniques through new skills - a NF about a skill you'd like to learn
art of the everyday - a book cover that has an item you use every day on it

Folk artists are traditionally those who are not formally trained in art. So, maybe a book by an author who had no formal training in writing? Like these - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07....
A colorful book cover (folk art usually colorful)
Author shares a name with a famous folk music artist - http://folkmusic.about.com/od/artists...
September is Hispanic Heritage month, so, a book set in Latin America or written by a Latin American author.
Here is a 'Best Books to read in Autumn' list - https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1....
October 6th is Mad Hatter Day, so, either a book inspired by Alice in Wonderland, or one with Mental Illness/Health as a MPG.

Example: The Art of Racing in the Rain, The Art of War, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry Into Values, David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants

Read a book with a banjo, acoustic guitar, dulcimer or harmonica on the cover
The Weavers were influential in the folk revival in the U.S. - read a book where an author shares first or last name with one of the members (Pete Seeger, Ronnie Gilbert, Fred Hellerman and Lee Hays) or read a book about weaving or other textile work.
October 24th is United Nations Day: read a book set in more than one country or a book about negotiating an end to a war.
Read a book with main page genre "folk" or "folklore"

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Musi...

Read a book by an author who is of any indigenous or native people group.
WIKI page may help identify the groups considered indigenous or native.

2- With school starting, read a book on a required (or suggested) reading list for students (are there lists available?) or a classic.
3 - September, October, & November all have the same ending (ber). Read a book a) by an author whose first and last name end in the same letter or b) author's name or word in title includes -ber or c) by the same author (or same first or last name) as one you read last season.

2)Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them comes out in November. Read a book with a mythical creature in it.
3) Halloween: Read a book with main genre of Horror

Since most of these are novellas the page count would still need to fit SRC rules, perhaps it could be a 5 point book to fit.

This fall we are expecting a large harvest of apples from our trees. Apples can inspire several themes:
* school (read a book that takes place in a school?)
* harvest (read a book that features an apple or an apple pie on the cover)
* A poisoned apple can be used for bothfairytales (read a fairy tales or fairy tale retelling) and murder (read a mystery that features a poisoning)
Disney's Moana has already been mentioned. It takes place in the south Pacific. Maybe read a book from or about that region?

Another use of the fall/autumn conundrum could be to find a book that has been published under different titles - e.g. one that changed title to match a movie release The Golden Compass vs Northern Lights or to suit international audiences Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone vs Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone or just because the title was not quite right Ten Little Indians vs And Then There Were None
For both suggestions you could use either version of the word/book

NaNoWriMo is in November. (Who has time to write when you are reading all the time?!) Read a book by an author with the same first, middle, or last name as you or by your favorite author.
Oct 10 is World Mental Health Day. Read a book with a mental health aspect or MPG of health, psychology, philosophy, or religion.

1) Read a book that has been banned and/or challenged
2) Read a book with a Diverse main character in recognition that we need more representation in books.
September is back-to-school time
Read a book off of Penguin Modern Classics
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/7...
October
Read a book off of Best Books to Read for Halloween!
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...
November and Thanksgiving
It's starting to get COLD, so reread an old favorite book that you're thankful to have on hand

You could go with a bird theme for one challenge, either a bird(s) on the cover, or the word "bird" or a type of bird in the title.
Or you could do something with Tim Burton's name, since he's directing it. Like read a book by an author with the initials T.B. Or read a book whose title includes all the letters in either T-I-M or B-U-R-T-O-N.

Or back to the folk art thing (at least as I understand it, which may be completely wrong!), maybe read a book where a minority or indigenous people, or their values and culture, are important to the plot (e.g. Native American/Canadian, Amish/Mennonite, Australian Aboriginal?).

A book whose title or the author's last name can be found in OKTOBERFEST or is set in BAVARIA.

2- With school starting, r..."
How about this list?

As in past challenges, some tasks may revolve around the seasonal theme of fall or autumn. Others may reflect the bonus theme. Other tasks may have nothing to do with either of these themes, they’re just fun ideas for unique reading challenges.
Feel free to post as many ideas as you can come up with. Don't worry about repeating what another player might have already suggested. The more ideas, the better!
The moderators will draw from these ideas as well as their own to create the 5, 10, and 15 point tasks. This thread will be open for ideas until August 19. Fall tasks will begin to be posted on August 20th. We look forward to seeing what you come up with!
