Finished (view spoiler)[Given some of the reviews and other comments I really wasn’t expecting to like the outcome of this book at all. And damn as morbid as it was, I loved it. I think being taken by surprise made the book for me. For the most part it was pretty slow going and even though I had no idea where it was heading I sure as hell didn’t think Cady was the only one left alive. My mind kind of wants to explode given how far her mind went psychologically to protect and shield her. I mean she imagined them alive for so much of the summer, I didn’t expect it to just bam drop on us from one chapter to the next like that, I really liked it 🤷🏼‍♀️ (hide spoiler)]

This writing is so odd.

I don’t understand what happened with her going in the water and then being washed up onshore? And like why is Gat and her cousins not talking to her after the accident, it is so suspicious.
I am hoping this will make sense in the end but I am so confused. (hide spoiler)]

I am pretty sure her mom is hiding something about the accident.
Gat doesn't deserve to say he misses Cady. He is the one who never contacted her. She needs to ask why he didn't ever contact him, but he does not get to act like everything is fine when he is the one who left her.
What is with Cady giving everything away, she says it is just to do good but I feel like there is something deeper going on.
What is wrong with the grandfather. He claims he knows that everyone's name isn't Mirren but yet he calls everyone that anyways. (hide spoiler)]

I felt like a lot of people say the ending was surprising and ended good but I didn't love the ending. Anyway. I can’t believe that they’re all dead. I’m completely thrown and I don’t know what to think. It’s a very clever book but I didn’t connect with any of the characters. (hide spoiler)]

The whole relationship between Gat and Cadence is a bit odd. It almost seems like Gat isn’t a real person. I haven’t read a book with a narrator this unreliable before so it’s quite interesting. I don’t know how much of what I’m reading is really happening. (hide spoiler)]

I like the random little stories about the king with the 3 daughters and the way they tie in to what’s actually happening. I’m still confused about everything but it’s really interesting. I’m shocked. I’m glad that she stopped shouldering all the blame at the very end because it really wasn’t her fault. I know there are differing opinions on the writing style, but I really loved it! It was easy for me to get immersed in the story, even with not a lot happening and it did what I think it set out to do how it made you see Cadence's mental stability (or un-stability) and also how she perceived the other characters to be. It just really set the whole vibe of the book.

(view spoiler)[What really kept me reading was being curious to see what had happened to Cadence and all the other Liars Sometimes the dual time line was confusing (looking back I SWEAR there was a scene with all 4 Liars at the table AFTER Cadence's accident and all of them had been talked to, but maybe that was before her accident it wasn't super clear).

I think the other did a good job of giving enough information to keep us interested, but also leaving plenty enough out to keep us curious.

@Aaron; I also really enjoyed the stories and how they related to story. I thought that was a really cool edition!

My very first instinct after Cadence's accident, after mentioning that it was weird Gat wasn't with her and why didn't he answer he that he was dead, and that quite possibly all 3 of the Liars were. As I went on, it seemed like they weren't dead, at least not Johnny or Mirren and then when she saw them during Summer 17 I figured I got it wrong and something else happened... I WAS SHOOK TO FIND I WASN'T WRONG, the other three Liars were, indeed, dead.

I am still a little "???" how no one noticed or mentioned to her that she was seeing things or talking to/referencing people that weren't there... I feel like that would have been very concerning? Idk if I missed something?

I did still really like how that bit of the book was done, how she got her memories back, the Liars disappeared (a tad weird but fitting), and then her having to grieve them two years after the fact. It really was tragic, but I still enjoyed it! (hide spoiler)]

I definitely started to really like it later on. It just took me a while to get used to
