I have been on a bit of a tear actually, buying up tons of classics on amazon for like a buck, then you can get the Audible audio version for about a buck as well, once you own the Kindle version. So, recently, I've gotten GREAT EXPECTATIONS, JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH, THE MILL ON THE FLOSS, MOONSTONE, ROBIN HOOD, and even more that I cannot remember! -Jen from Quebec :0)

Thanks Pink! :) Good point! haha, they certainly didn't. Plus, I love going into a bookshop without any plan and buying books that catch my eye.

That's something I don't do enough, just browse and choose books on a whim. I suppose it's because most of my reading is ordered in from the library, as my small branch doesn't stock enough. I get too overwhelmed when I'm in a bookshop and end up browsing, wanting everything and leaving with nothing!

I'm taking a week's vacation in about...a week and I plan on browsing some bookshops during that time. I do miss being in the Navy when I could spend a day or two browsing through bookshops in other countries (I got a lot of really neat titles in Sydney and Singapore--as well as a neat little place in Yokohama that I liked to frequent.)

Lol, even those visits can sometimes be satisfactory once in a while. Just perusing the shelves. Yeah, I confess, I often want a lot, but I usually have a tight budget so I only walk away with those books I really want and can envisage myself reading in the near future.

After discovering When we were orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro in my bookshelf (must have been there for years), I have just bought two more books by him. Never let me go and The Buried Giant.

I think he will be the author this year where I have intention of reading all his novels.

I got George Eliot's Silas Marner from a local Book Swap. Very excited since this is the first classic I'm reading in a very long time and this group had a lot of influence in me picking a Classic as my next read. Also this will be my second Eliot after Daniel Deronda :)

I bought Hard Times by Charles Dickens in preparation for this group's February reads! So I've made some pretty good book hauls lately. The first few are not terribly exciting, but they are the Everyman's Library editions that I really like: Go Tell It on the Mountain and The Good Soldier. I also picked up a first edition Roverandom and a plain ole 2015 Beowulf: A Translation and Commentary. But now it gets more exciting. The local library was having a fundraiser and they had received donations of old and rare books. I picked up a 1967 two-volume The Annotated Sherlock Holmes which contains the four novels and 56 short stories of Sherlock Holmes. At the same sale, I picked up a circa 1940s hardcover Alice in Wonderland for my daughter. And finally, this goes back to Christmas, my son and daughter-in-law got me a two-volume, 1938 Heritage Press, Heritage Club edition of Les Misérables, illustrated by Lynd Ward and translated by Lascelles Wraxall. It is in nearly new condition and has the original slip case. (Good Reads does not have this edition listed as far as I can tell).

Joseph - those Sherlock Holmes and Les Mis sound great - always nice to have an edition that isn't even listed on Goodreads, makes it feel all the more special! ;o)

Laurie - when I finish a book, although I don't always do a review, I always set the Finished Reading date, and while I have the edit panel open it seems rude not to set an owned copy while I'm there!
and for books I buy, but haven't read yet, I always like to make sure I have the correct edition selected, and again while I'm doing that I just set the owned copy info

My housemate's just messaged me to tell me my copy of Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel has arrived. I'm reading it with another gr bookclub and the premise sounds interesting, so looking forward to it once I'm back home from my trip :)
