Little Reunions - Eileen Chang"
Now this is a great a book. But then again, everything she writes is just so good.

The Criminal Conversation of Mrs. Norton: Victorian England's "Scandal of the Century" and the Fallen Socialite Who Changed Women's Lives Forever (paperback bargain - managed to snag it for under £2 on Amazon)
The Strings of Murder (Kindle - Victorian Scotland supernatural murder mystery)
Testament of Youth (Kindle again - it's on the Daily Deals today for Remembrance Sunday)

Oh man, if I could effectively read from an electronic device like I read from actual bound books, my bank account would never recover. It really is for my own good that I don't have a Kindle.
I have bought a few books recently, mostly books from the Catching Up On Classics bookshelf that I have not read yet. But I did find a book in all the Amazon links, that was unique and I am excited about: My Father's Country: Story of a German Family. A young girl tells the story of her father who was a German officer before Hitler came to power. Her father participated in a plot to assassinate Hitler. The book is a look at three generations of her family.

A wonderful book written by a German during the War is Diary of a Man in Despair by Friedrich Reck.
It's a fascinating and exceptionally moving account of one man's struggle to maintain his humanity while surrounded by barbarism, made all the more extraordinary because Reck's own natural inclination was reactionary. You'd typically expect one with his political disposition to sympathize with fascism, but his hatred and contempt for the Nazis knew no bounds, so much so that finally he was deported to Dachau where he would die only weeks before the camp was liberated.

This one also sounds very interesting. Thank you.

I hope to get to these really soon, but I still have a few checkouts that I haven't completed yet.

TURN OFF THE NOTIFICATIONS, she suggests. Don't ask me how I know how problematic these temptresses are.

Problem? I call this taking action when fine opportunities present themselves

I will say that since GR changed so that it’s synced with kindle deals I haven’t bought nearly as many. I think I counted seven purchased since the change? It used to be practically one a day.

As long as you're happy, I'm happy, BAM! (Books on my kindle are basically lost to me when it comes time to decide what to read next, so the fact that most of them have been free or less than $2 isn't meritorious - for me, only me. YMMV)
BAM wrote: "Helen, I’m currently reading one about a woman who learned she was one of the children of the Lebensbern? lebensborn? It’s called Hitler’s Forgotten Children."
I think I remember seeing that on a Kindle special list. She lost track of her brother? That does seems interesting, too.

It's hard to see in this picture but, regrettably, the cover appears to have been be-dazzled.

Hitler's Forgotten Children: My Life Inside The Lebensborn for the link. Looks interesting.

The Pen and the Sword by Edward W. Said
The Black Swan by Thomas Mann
Some Clouds: A Hactor Belascoaran Shayne Detective Novel by Paco Ignacio Taibo II; and

As y’all can see I didn’t hold back lol I spent about $60 at Thriftbooks. Most of Audible was purchased by credits or through the sale they are currently advertising. And I have to admit it felt so damn invigorating to buy all of these and the anticipation of my shipments is just eating at me. I can’t wait to find room for them all!

The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum catches my eye - I have Billiards at Half-Past Nine on my 2019 pile, having nearly chosen LHKB as my first by Heinrich Böll

I do enjoy the hunt. I also have a limited amount of space (two bookshelves, both doubleshelved, and under my bed), so it's best to limit my book acquiring activities to the rhythm of book sales, as I usually manage to read as much as I've bought every month.

Stack them up by my door. When the stack gets high enough, I sell them off at a used bookstore that facilities such transactions.

I'll be bringing this bunch in once that second stack on the right reaches the height of the other one.

Ha. Welcome to the millennial lifestyle. Either I keep a copy of all 1500+ books I've read in my lifetime, or I have space for a bed. Besides, the store I sell my books to is much more accessible than the sales I go to, so there's always the chance some lucky customer comes across something they never expected to find for so cheap.

Space is definitely an issue.
I was so excited when my family bought my first kindle for me for Christmas. I thought, "Finally, a way to have all the books I want in a small space!!" Well, I now read about half on kindle and half physical pages because my eyes just cannot take too much screen time. If something is just a "fluff" read for me I tend to get it on Kindle, or if it is free or nearly free.

Sounds interesting! Sophie's Choice is also on my TBR list. This encourages me to move it up on the list!

so I feel justified in buying a measly 2 for the Guardian 1000 Group's December reads, namely:
