Okay, I have started both of my picks (Farmer Boy and Andrew's Brain). I like all of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books so that one will be fine. Not as sure on E.L. Doctorow - I've never read any of his stuff before. Mighty strange so far... I'll keep going but I'm not at all convinced I'll ever read anything of his again.

Loved it, loved it, loved it. All I can say is Oh. My. God. Did Konrath really just end the book like that?! Yes. Yes he did. I reread the last 3 chapters three times and then gawked in disbelief. Good thing I already have the next one cause I can't stand the suspense! Who died?! Who DIED?! It's not a spoiler, cause I don't know either!

Finished
Andrew's Brain today. The jury's out on this one - a mighty odd plot essentially rambling along with the musings and self-related tale of the protagonist. I did enjoy the imagery used, however. I give this one three stars for the beautiful descriptions. But not my kind of story overall.

Claiming the Courtesan by Anna Campbell 8/3 - 3.5stars &
Crazy Wild by Tara Janzen - 8/5 - 4stars

Real, Katy Evans – 8/10/16 – ✮✮✮✮✰
Wicked Fall, Sawyer Bennett – 8/2/16 – ✮✮✮✮✰

Honestly that was a struggle. It had some interesting moments, but it really dragged for much of it.
on to the next!
I also finished
a few days ago and enjoyed it immensely. Looking forward to the rest of that series.

I read the first few books in that series several years ago and loved them. I really need to get caught back up!

Now to the next one A Change of Fortune let's hope I like it as much or even more ;-)

Liked that so much more than the first book this month, ended up being much better than I expected!

Both books were in a series that I look forward to continue reading. Thanks for the picks Zoe!

I finished Blow Down ★★★★★ Mystery, humor and romance -- a gret addition to this series. I'm looking forward to the next book.
Once More, With Feeling ★★★ I enjoyed many parts of this story, but the central conflict made no sense to me and the book suffered as a result.
Thanks for these picks!

I read Swamp by Karen Yochim, which takes place in the bayous of Louisiana, in 1868. The plot includes a missing fiance, a unidentifiable corpse, tons of family secrets and a very likeable heroine, plus some Cajun folklore and history all wrapped up in one small volume. I thought the plot was going to be a little darker than it was, but it was a fun read nonetheless. I gave it four stars. I'd never heard of this author before I found the book in the library. I'm definitely interested in reading more from her.

[bookcover:Midnight Awakening|1388813] read 8/16. It had been on my to-read list for a few months. Why did I take so long to get to it? I gotta stay up on this series now. I did read

Hoping to get to

Destined for an Early Grave by Jeaniene Frost 8/23/16 ★★★★
My heart hurt reading this one and I couldn't put it down. As usual though, it was all better in the end....mostly. Love Cat & Bones and can't wait to read the next one.
Fuzzy Navel by J.A. Konrath 8/3/16 ★★★★★

I never could really get into the book and it just didn't seem like a good fit for me. I gave in 2*.

Hi Kay,
Just wanted to let you know that I finished Kokoro. Going in, I was prepared for a slow, meditative read. I started 8/1 to give myself plenty of time to savor it.
Meditative, yes. Slow, no. I finished the book in 24 hours!
I've gone with 3/5 stars for now, but I may up that. From a plot standpoint, the story itself is predictable. But from an ideas standpoint, I found many observations still relevant to today. It's a quiet, contemplative read. I recommend it overall :)
