Dead Tired 1

Meet Harold. Harold is a Lich from a time of LitRPGs. He killed Gods. Got bored. Took a 1000 year nap.

Some hapless adventurer opened his tomb/bed and woke him up. He was angry/reactionary and killed the adventurer. Then decided to revive. Merging adventurer with a tigress animal soul.

This created a gender confused butler/maid, who insists on calling Harold his/her Bone Daddy.

Harold endures and gets a witch apprentice. Harold finds out people have been using his phylacteries as power sources, and the world has shifted into a Cultivation world with magic kung fu.

Harold is annoyed. Harold and minions go to deal with it. Harold makes alot of bone puns.

All Hail Harold the Lich, the Bone Daddy!!!

Also there's anthropomorphic grasshopper people learning Magic Hand to pet animals since they have scary bug limbs...

Just checked and looks like it's not on Libby or Hoopla. Sad.

Me, Nirkatze, Ann-Marie, and RachelG read the books in the Spring, after several other LitRPG series...

They're narrated by Soundbooth Theatre in a similar way to the Dungeon Crawler Carl books... lots of fun...

I'm 9 months behind on GR reviews...

LitRPGs tend to not be on Hoopla/Libby, since they tend to be Amazon/Audible exclusive... altho, if you want to eyeread, you can usually find them on Patreon/Royal Road and download cheap/free...

Here's a Royal Road screenshot from 2 years ago before book 1 was stubbed and turned into an Amazon ebook...

So another GR feature is going away... DMs... now there's no way to communicate with other members other than group discussions...

My guess is January... start of new year, and usually when they do alot of GR maintenance / "upgrades" (downgrades)...

Urgh, that sucks.... I can understand GR not wanting to deal with the increase in unsolicited DMs (I still remember the 3 days I had open DMs AND my face as profile picture... The number of creepy DMs I got was disgusting), but they could have forced the option of friends-only DMs on everyone instead of nuking the feature.

Narilka | 5948 comments Iain and I are talking about using Discord as a backup for DMs. If anyone's interested, please post here or in Vagabond.

Or DM us and one another usernames, before GR DMs go away...

If there's enough interest, and in case things ever go nuclear here, then we can make a bare bones FBR discord server as an emergency backup that could be expanded in the future until we find a new platform to meet our threadmaking needs...

I don't think trying to run all our Buddy Reads on a discord server would work as well as our current system here... but things are pretty doom and gloom on r/Goodreads right now, regarding yet another feature removal on here, and possible future feature removals...

message 6665: by Narilka (last edited Dec 03, 2025 06:07AM) (new)

Narilka | 5948 comments I agree that Discord would be very clunky for running so many BRs the way we do. It would make a nice gathering place as a temporary backup should GRs discussions ever go away so the group could decide on what's next.

message 6666: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 3233 comments I must admit that I don't have any experience with Discord.

message 6667: by Timelord Iain, Tech Support (new)

Timelord Iain | 36910 comments Mod
It's a multi-feature chat app... you can have friends on there you DM, and servers you join like IRC servers of the 00s and before... there's alot of game communities and fandoms on there...

I have a growing number of FBR people in my friends list on there, now, in case of emergency... and with the app, you can get notifications when people speak to you, depending on how you leave your settings... if you join a bunch of servers, you'll need to disable alot of types of notifications, or you'll get annoyed by them all... I have 99-100% of notifications disabled...

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5420 comments I’ve tried discord but could never figure it out. If the buddy read group moved there I don’t think I’d be able to participate anymore.

message 6670: by Narilka (new)

Narilka | 5948 comments IMO Discord is very similar to MS Teams if you've used that for work. Just without the file storage.

message 6671: by Paula (new)

Paula (paula7) | 2187 comments It could be temporary. Storygraph also has a buddy read mode, although i dont know if it would be useful for a lot of BR

We're not seeking to move there... just a backup way to communicate, if Goodreads ever becomes useless/unuseable, as they keep stripping away features, while we pick an alternative...

Paula wrote: "It could be temporary. Storygraph also has a buddy read mode, although i dont know if it would be useful for a lot of BR"

I just saw how Storygraph has Buddy Read mode and you need to specify what part of the book you're at... yea, I'm not 100% sure that would work as well, for generalized vs spoilerific discussions... it seems like Storygraph is planning to add book clubs in the future and Librarything has groups, and Fable has virtual book clubs... basically it'll be a group effort to find an alternative if worst comes to worst... I'm sure r/goodreads would be discussing the same alternatives at that time, to help find the best solution at the time, as alternatives improve over time...

I will buy everything by them eventually, I especially want ATE, Rockstar and 5 star, my faves albums.

And it just just arrived. I am so happy! Like i thought i would only get the Do photos in the photoalbum (like in karma), but the photos of the it album also appeared (but i guess less of them). And the quality is really great, better than the karma one.

And the photocards! I got seungmin's normal one and the lenticular one. My bias! Then i also got a normal Hyunjin and a IN. And the big IN card. I also didnt realize the DIY stuff is basically stickers, but i dont care about that

Paula (paula7) | 2187 comments Talking about albums. My mother just came in and said that if I was finally satisfied buying the albums. And I was like: no...I want to buy more albums. And she said to diversify my music. People who don't know just don't get it 😮‍💨

I still need 5 star. Forgot about that one.
