All about Abhay and Polo (The snail pals :P)

You don't count as you are not a wise man. ^.^

I need a summary of the last few events from KC#1. Forgot most of it. :-/

Lol, 'Rothfussiya'! That poetic essence of his words, one of its kind in the fantasy world.
You remember the prologue in NoTW: "The Silence Of Three Parts" ? The one which instantly hooked me to the book?
WMF starts with the same prologue. :)
Will read some of it today and drag you in too. Or else you'll procrastinate forever.

Yes, we are. Proud fans, in fact. :)
More than Kvothe, I'm a big fan of Rothfuss's writing style, and the magical world he creates. Not very complex, and very much nearing reality. Also, off-print, he's real funny and honest.

This is all I seem to recollect about the story. Your turn, Abby, to fill in the blanks, correct (if needed), and add to it. :P
Others who have read NoTW, do help us if you can. We'd be grateful. :)

You do remember the names. I forgot Abenthy. :P *applauds*
Even I don't expect much development plotwise, but character wise there should be some advancement, I hope. There were many characters in NoTW that I want more light on.
Kvothe, being one.
Another, Elodin- so much to the Master Namer than meets the eye.
Then there's Denna- contrary to popular view, I liked her quite in NoTW, despite of her character being lofty there. I loved how the lady enjoyed her existence, unbound and unanswerable to anyone, a mystery for one and all. Though I'd really like some development in her character in WMF.

I'm not updating as yet because it might spoil for you.
How far did you reach?

I'm in Chapter 32. Page 242.
Don't worry, you'll catch up. The chapters are easy and you are like lightning when it comes to fantasy. :P
Keep posting your thoughts on the way.

I kinda read it in one day and now I'm reading it again slowly with a frie..."
Hey Karishma!
You could join in the discussion here too, its open to all. :)

Reached Chapter 42. But tbh, I don't know towards which direction the story is wheeling forth. I can't sight the motive exactly. Usually one would expect a progression, a build up towards a definite motive in such a book. But here, it's like things are going at the same pace, without any direction. They fight, they debate, Kvothe plays the lute at Eolian and he loves the strings with all his life, the same age old animosity towards Ambrose, the meetings with Denna-Auri-Devi. The tidbits are good, enjoyable, if you consider them singly but the overall effect is not up to the mark. There's not much progress by now and I'm desperately hoping this changes. I'm already nearing the 2nd interlude, and not much has happened.

And I was dying to know more about the Chandrian but nothing!"
I kinda expected the Chandrian thing won't progress much in this book, but I hope *something* turns up till the end. Nina's entry brightened me up, but it was cut too short.
The thing is, if not Chandrian, it should be steering in a different way atleast, but it doesn't seem to occur anytime soon. Hasn't happened till now. This is making me weary, in a way. I love the Archives, I like the University, the Eolian, the characters.. I like the individual events. But something definite NEEDS to happen soon.

Exa..."
I know. And the disappointment is profound when you expect it that much.
That lifts up my spirits, though! Will look forward to those things happening. :D

Glad you're progressing, lazy bee. :P
Devi is even more menacing, keep reading. I love her spark!
Every time I'm doubtful about Denna, she does something which makes me think maybe she isn't what she shows herself to be. (You would know what I meant in the story, further on. :P)
Nevertheless, I want Rothfuss to reveal something more of her soon.

Where the music keeps playing and the wine keeps pouring night after night :) I hope more such interesting places are revealed in and around Imre.
BTW did you guys know ..."
That badge is pretty. "Where pride pays silver and plays golden..."
Kvothe's unadulterated love for his lute strings are a strong point in this story, above everything. The way he holds it so dear to his heart. It feels so good to read those parts. :)
Btw, off story, have you watched the deewani mastani song video featuring Deepika? From Bajirao Mastani? Is that a lute in her hand? :P

Hahaha I was like, wtf is wrong with Master Namer? Hahaha! He is such a dolt. :D
I'd definitely love to be in his classes, lol! It would be such an break from the monotonous college classes. :P

Yeah, such a grandiose plan is sure to fail. That too with Ambrose, the rich, paranoid bastard. Though I loved the way he was lured into the trap,. That feminine letter written by the three madmen, hahahahaha! XD
Sometimes we tend to forget that our young Kvothe is actually still a teen. Reckless, and teeming with senseless energy. And when the prospect of getting Denna's ring back is the cause, why will he ever lose the opportunity to brag about it if he succeeds? Typical Bollywood style hero! XD
And that mysterious girl is............... (view spoiler)

That was so horrifying. Someone could actually go to that extent in animosity with Kvothe :O
Who do you think is behind this?

And yeah, the scientific tidbits Rothfuss tries to mould into every magical event makes them sound so real. I remember loving this fact about NoTW too. :)

Devi's hunger for the Archives was what made me suspect her too. But man, wasn't she fierce? She defeated Elxa Dal!!! Can you imagine that? Alar like ocean in a storm, whoa! :O
Denna gifting the lutecase, right? It comes in real handy later on. :)
She has secrets of her own. So does Kvothe. They are not much different from each other. And both don't owe each other anything.
But yeah about the guys she goes around with, I feel pity for them. :-/
Other than that, I still like her. :P
Did you see how Kvothe cried when he found out about the lute? And the way he was so broken-hearted to find it missing in the first place? That was touching. He's real dedicated to his lute strings. Its almost as natural to him as breathing.
There is another chapter on Denna-Kvothe that I love too. Keep reading!

A little confused about the rating. Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. Like I said before, I immensely enjoyed the individual parts, but the overall plot failed to make an impression. I loved Name Of The Wind so much more; I was almost reeling from its effects. But WMF didn't cause anything as such. I'm disappointed to an extent. :-/

So much happened. One thing I still ponder about is why would Ambrose skip a term after that trial and why does everyone want Kvothe to take a break too? Is it..."
They wouldn't want the University to be defamed. Elxa Dal and others, no matter how much they favoured the students, they would have to think about the University's goodwill as a priority. People were bound to talk about things that concerned the trial. Malfeascence is illegal, and that would bring a bad name to the University if Ambrose and Kvothe would be seen roaming around freely.

And yeah he doesn't describe, because it wasn't much necessary. He reached Maer's place, and was well treated there. But I admire the way he interacted with that man who led him to Alveron's place. It was like he was paying a visit to an old, familiar place, the ways of which he knew by-heart. :D

I told you!!! Told you there is more to Denna! That night when she saves that girl, it just confirmed my beliefs that all is not going downhill with this character.
I'm thinking this patron has a personal relationship to do with Denna.. Maybe her father? Or someone else? Nevertheless., he is equally evasive.
I'm still dubious about her. Rothfuss has kept her uncertainty for too long, methinks. :-/

I was about to ask something, but then shut up for my own good. *baaki upto you to guess* :P
That fight was indeed intense. But it was more enraging than emotional. None of them were at fault. Kvothe doesn't know how far she researched for that song. Plus folk stories are different from place to place. Even Kvothe was convinced of Lanre's heroic version until he heard that story about his treachery. Historians can change and un-change many things.
Not blaming Kvothe. The poor lad has, in fact, been the one to suggest her the harp. I think it was an amalgam of emotions regarding the Chandrian, Denna's patron and the false myths that cornered Denna's song which set off his rage.
And Denna had the right to be offended. She had worked hard for the song. Plus, she was a self-respectful, proud lady and she denied anyone the permission to control her. Sure, Kvothe didn't even remotely want to control her, but her past experiences with men must have left her with that kind of a feeling. Also, the things Kvothe blurted out in anger were monstrously insulting. :-/

Updates!!!!!"
Updates puch rahi ho ya Bhatta wasool kar rahi ho :/ :D :D
[spoilers removed]"
*rolls eyes*
Might have. Don't remember dialogues that well as you do. -_-

Dedan and Hespe are childish and stupid. I don't think they realise the situation at hand at all. They bicker all the way. -_-
And will try that song soon,. :)

Anyway am around 65% will try to finish it by Sunday night. Any idea when the 3rd book in this series is s..."
*cries tears of joy* Finally, tu yaha aaya toh. :P
I thought you got lost in the forest with Felurian. :P
Nope, no idea. It will be some time though. Rothfuss takes time writing his stories.

Now I'm around 87%
Kvothe just met some troupers that look like edema ruh on his way to severen. And what happened later I'd never expected that! This chapter had a Game Of..."
I liked that part. The way Kvothe chased them. :O
Felt bad for Ellie. Those demonic persons.

Also the author failed to connect the individual parts and create a better plot.
Yeah, the Shaed is also not very well explained. Only thing I know is that it cloaks him and lets him merge with the dark of the night.. And magically flutters even if there's no wind. I liked the way Felurian made it, infusing it with fae magic.

Saw your rating. 3 stars. :D
Will you continue with series, Abby? I dunno how much farther he wants to extend the series, but I'd prefer if he kept it short. Or else they will be like WMF; mere transitory, filling-up stories.

Best parts of the story for you?
I know which are the bad parts, so won't ask. :P

If you could write all this beside your rating in that box GR provides, you could've formed a review. :P
I agree with you. 1st half was good and interesting, though nothing out of the ordinary as it was nothing different from NoTW. Yeah, malfeascence was a good edge.
2nd half, too many things, scattered here and there. Took away much of my enthusiasm for the book.
I loved Elodin's classes and when Kvothe realised the meaning behind them. Also the friendship between Kvothe and his friends Wilem and Simmon was good to watch. Tempi was an enjoyable character, and the Fae chapters were good to my liking.

Felurian was like....
And Kvothe was like..
And I was like...
While Tempi was like....
Then my mind was like...
But my heart was like..
"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Poor, silly you XD

Comes from the person who did a mighty 3%. :P
Will change the title soon.
At 30% now. So many characters. That many suspects. -_-
the murderer is fresh in my mind too...
So you folk cant displease either Manju or me, till at least you finish this one. :P

My name is Kvothe.
I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trehon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.
You may have heard of me.
So begins the tale of a hero told from his own point of view — a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man's Fear, an escalating rivalry with a powerful member of the nobility forces Kvothe to leave the University and seek his fortune abroad. Adrift, penniless, and alone, he travels to Vintas, where he quickly becomes entangled in the politics of courtly society. While attempting to curry favor with a powerful noble, Kvothe uncovers an assassination attempt, comes into conflict with a rival arcanist, and leads a group of mercenaries into the wild, in an attempt to solve the mystery of who (or what) is waylaying travelers on the King's Road.
All the while, Kvothe searches for answers, attempting to uncover the truth about the mysterious Amyr, the Chandrian, and the death of his parents. Along the way, Kvothe is put on trial by the legendary Adem mercenaries, is forced to reclaim the honor of the Edema Ruh, and travels into the Fae realm. There he meets Felurian, the faerie woman no man can resist, and who no man has ever survived...until Kvothe.
In The Wise Man's Fear, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.
Join me and Abhay as we embark on this journey, all the way to the Waystone Inn to reveal the mysterious red-haired innkeeper Kvothe; Dragon-slayer, Kingkiller, renowned swordsman; and marvel in the lyrical storytelling by Patrick Rothfuss, as is his signature style.
