Maybe we should have the faster readers heat 1 first.

HERE is a link to our planning spreadsheet.
V needs to check edit rights but I think all should be in order? (Give her a bit to get home from work in case you can't fiddle with it.)
The idea is that everyone can put down a few ideas of books they have lying around that they could read, preferably with more common words in the title so we'll find a way to link them up.

Yup, that would most likely be the best way to go.
We'll need a minimum of 7 readers for Heat 1. (You can only read once per leg.)
I'm counting myself among the slower readers but if I can manage to find a fairly small book that fits into those legs, I have all weekend free to sit down and read.

Just home from work, everyone should be able to edit (if I've done it right) if not give me a shout. Also unlike other challenges "A, An & The" CANNOT be excluded.
I should probably wait until heat 2 so that nobody has to wait for me to finish a book before we start event 2.

Yup, Heat 2 it is for you! You'll still start the book as soon as the challenge starts though :-)

I was thinking along the same lines as E ~ since there isn't an advantage of reading a book with a higher page count, then maybe we should focus on smaller books to get the heats done quicker. With the first heat requiring a minimum of 7 people to complete it, and 10 people on the team, most everyone will need have something logged.Tamika and K Terror are wicked fast readers and they can have a book logged for each leg while I'm still finishing up 1. So I think it might be beneficial (since they don't need to be finished in order; just completed before heat 2 begins) to focus on both the page count and the speed of the readers. Right? I might be way off.
Normally I would volunteer for Heat 1 but I will be traveling (driving) all day Saturday. I will be visiting family on Sunday-Tuesday and traveling all day again on Wednesday. I will be able to read and update while I'm gone but I can't guarantee any speed. I might be lucky to finish more than one book during those days... So I think that leaves me to Heat 2.
Jessica, you hit the nail on the head with that!I'm all for the team and what they want so it's fine with me.
K~Terror wrote: "I'm good reading whichever legs needed! I think this is gonna be one crazy but fun event!!!"I agree! At first I was a little overwhelmed... but now I'm just excited :)
If one of the lovely captains of any variation want to add my books to SS I'm fine. I'm on my kindle and can't edit it.
It IS overwhelming at first - which is why I suggested reading slow, and again if necessary and digest. Because in the end, it isn't all that complicated.
It's creative, tricky and challenging though hehe.

Oooh!
Jessica, if you want to read Real Ugly, then I'll go with Ugly Love.
Someone is sure to find a book that starts with Love, right?

Eldarwen wrote: "Feel free to call dibs! IF you make sure we have books that fit ;-)"Hehehe... I just bought Real Ugly. I noticed it on the SS under the doodles tab with a (?) and thought it looks interesting. 5 minutes later I now have another TBR on my Kindle. Only 3 weeks in and my TBR shelf has doubled!!
That's what the rest of us call "mission accomplished" ;-)
The purpose of this challenge is not to decrease your TBR by reading lots of books, it's to increase it by adding everything the rest of us read and recommend ;-)

I may or may not have been looking at book titles and saw you had it on your tbr... heehee

No problem, chickie - added!
lol I have never done a team challenge and actually read what I have on my tbr, it ends up growing massively
I am in the same boat as Tamika, cannot get on spreadsheet.I do have:
*The Alchemy of Murder
*The Stopped Heart
*Break no Bones
*The Last days of Newgate.
However when I get home I will see what I can grab on Audio that might fit somewhere
So we need to know who's going to be I'm heat one.We have two days.
I'm willing to accommodate and be the lead for Heat one.
As a little aside note:
K has been fiddling around a little with titles and books we have on our to-be-read shelves, so there are a few things on there already.
Nothing is set in stone yet, no fear, in case there is a book on there you don't want to read or don't have access to. It was just a bit of playing around to see how difficult this was going to be.

HEAT 1
Basically everyone will be heat 1 except for Alexandria, Karen and LaurLa, who all will be a bit slower for various reasons. (As per previous posts from the three of them.)
We need a minimum of 7 readers for heat 1, so that leaves the rest of us with having to fill up the leg of seven books.
You don't necessarily have to be lead Tamika. We can fit books before and after whatever you're going to read. Books don't need to be read/finished in order either. The whole heat just needs to be completed before we can move on to other events.
Heat 2 can be read simultaneously but doesn't need to be completed before we can continue.

In addition to my previous post. If you change your mind about reading for heat 1... :-)
I'm pretty sure you can keep up with the speed readers if you pick a slightly shorter book, but no pressure on anyone!

Eldarwen wrote: "Heat 2 can be read simultaneously but doesn't need to be completed before we can continue...."I thought Heat 2 couldn't be started until Heat 1 was finished? Or did you mean Heat 2 could be read simultaneously to everything else after Heat 1 is finished?
▲ Books for all 3 legs of Heats 1 & 2 may be started/read at the same times.
We can read for Heat 1 and Heat 2 simultaneously. But we need to finish Heat 1 before moving on to Event 2 (or any other event).

I'm here!!I need to read through rules, but can read, read, read. Most of my m/m books are shorter reads, so I have plenty to choose from.
I'll go read through the rules :D
I'm reading through the Olympics games and realizing that my books with a higher page should be put to the backburner. I have shorter books that I can read.

Ah. When I read that I read it as each leg can be read simultaneously but that Heat 1 still had to be finished first. my bad...
For the second event, the page jumping, bigger books might not be a bad idea since we get more points for those in that event.
As I'm adding books...Just throwing it out there that if you need books that start with certain words as you try to piece together...let us know...I have so many books, chances are I might have on that starts with that word ;)

Ok, I'll go and see if I can find a short book so I can keep up with you speedy readers.

Sure thing, Snowtulip!
If you check the Doodles tab, K has been playing around a little already, so we have a few starting ideas set up that we could possibly work off of - but as mentioned before, some of those are just things she found on various shelves, so nothing is set in stone.
