If you read Olivia Cunning's Sinners series, it reminds me of that series. And the audio is done by the same narrator.

Tamika♥RBF MOOD♥ | 1422 comments Getting ready for dinner, might as well check in.

Finished my fantasy book.

On chapter 15 of my YA book. Will probably pick that back up while I'm exercising in the morning.

Starting The Gamble (Colorado Mountain, #1) by Kristen Ashley tonight. It works for contemporary or mystery. Whichever is fine with me. I'll be back tomorrow for the guess options.

Eldarwen | 13731 comments Mod
Sounds like a plan, Tamika! Book will be used for contemporary unless it'll fit with one of the new tasks we're getting today.

Keep your fingers crossed for lots of hits and good tasks!! :-)

Enjoy dinner! I just had breakfast haha.

Ghost in the Stacks Okay, I will try to be a little patient...I just want time to browse my options a bit, I dont want to have another Wicked Charms incident!

message 1465: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2383 comments I finished 2 books last night. One works for fantasy or parnanormal. the other is up for grabs...

The Bride of Casa Dracula (Casa Dracula, #3) by Marta Acosta - fantasy/parnanormal. I needed this for another challenge and thought it was also tagged mystery but must have been dreaming. At least it fits somewhere as a bonus!

Until Fountain Bridge (On Dublin Street, #1.5) by Samantha Young - tagged as romance, contemp, erotica, new adult... hopefully it will fit a hit in the upcoming set of guesses even though it's short (111 pg). if not, it was a short read that I LOVED so can't regret reading it even if it doesn't help this challenge ;-)

We've got 2 primaries done with the books LaurLa just finished.

V Audio Nerd is reading a romance and a YA/Mystery.
Karen is reading a YA.
Jessica is reading a historical.
Snowtulip is reading a fantasy.
Tamika is reading a YA and a paranormal (may fit fantasy).
Eldarwen is reading a science-fiction/fantasy and a mystery.
K-Terror is reading a YA and a contemporary/romance and a paranormal/fantasy.
Alexandria is reading a romance/YA and a contemporary/mystery.

So that covers quite a few of the required primary tasks already.

Did I miss something? But those are the things I've jotted down in my post on the first page. I'll go shuffle things around a bit now.

message 1470: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2383 comments I'll be able to read for mystery bonus and another romance. maybe historical, depending on when the challenge actually ends... when is that, btw?

message 1471: by Ghost in the Stacks (new)

Ghost in the Stacks Okay, I have a YA, I should have done today, I was going to use it as a bonus YA, So now We can use for a new hit.

I just downloaded a ScienceFiction, and I am physically reading a Historical Fiction.

End of the week. We don't have a definite end date for Battleship yet. But the Olympic Games start on July 2nd (11am London time) and all Battleship books need to be finished before then.

As soon as we have a definite finish date for Battleship, we'll let you know. Calculate with the 30th to be absolutely sure you can get through your reads - might be easiest.

Oookay, I went to lunch and only after that did I fiddle with the books we're currently reading hehe.

We basically have almost all the primary spots filled with all the books you ladies are currently reading.

What we still need:
2x classic
1x historical

Everything else: just finish what you're currently reading! :-)

message 1480: by Jessica (last edited Jun 27, 2016 07:07AM) (new)

Jessica | 296 comments I'm actually reading 2 historical books. Since I couldn't get to Water for Elephants this weekend, I started Salt to the Sea. It works for historical or YA - I will be finished with it by the end of the day.

Water for Elephants is actually shelved as classics by 198 users and I should finish that by tomorrow. Will this work?

Oh really? I wouldn't have pegged that book as a classic, but if it's shelved by more than 10 people.. it works! Awesome! :-)

That leaves us with one classic we need for primary - the rest of the spots are filled by current-reads!!

Wonderful! I thought the same (it was published in 2006!).

message 1483: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2383 comments Captains (O' My Captains) -- can you check if these books are acceptable? They are both tagged fantasy or paranormal so should be able to be used as bonus books. Not promising I'll get to both, but want to see if they are acceptable since they are duets, 2 shorter novella stories in each book, each as part of the overall series. I think I read somewhere in the rules that anthologies or book sets weren't allowed and I don't know if these fall into that category.

Hakan/Severin (Bayou Heat, #11-12) by Alexandra Ivy Angel/Hiss (Bayou Heat, #13-14) by Alexandra Ivy

Eldarwen | 13731 comments Mod
Both books are fine, LaurLa!

Books containing novellas or short stories are generally alright to be used as they fall into a similar category as anthologies; especially if they are considered part of a whole and it seems like the whole series is published in sets of two novellas per book.

It is the box sets (as for instance a set containing the complete Harry Potter series) that are not allowed, and neither are the omnibus books featuring 2 or more full-length novels from a series.

To take this a little further:
Some novellas are available as separate "books" on GR, and it is stated in the rules that anything you can shelve as a separate book should be used separately. However, this is more in the sense of several books, i.e. full blown novels, being bundled together.
There are short stories or novellas on GR that can be shelved separately but which have not actually been published on their own. Most figure as an appendix or extras in a full-length novel, or are often published in books containing various novellas/short stories by either the same or several authors, i.e. anthologies.

I have no idea why I typed a novel about this, but anyhow, I hope this makes those things clearer. Nevertheless, if in doubt, it's always better to ask! :-)

message 1485: by LaurLa (new)

IT IS OFFICIAL!

We have an end time for Battleship - COUNTDOWN.

And here is the Countdown to start of Olympics.

There is a 12 hour gap in between the two events so that captains get a chance to properly update the spreadsheet and put everything in order before the next event.

For the Europeans, this is a fairly decent deal since most of the downtime will be while we're sleeping, for the rest of you.. not so much, but hey, you can do other things in between then ;-) Take a breather from the fantastic reading you've been doing.

D10- Kick at the Darkness by Keira Andrews
Works for Sweet Dreams (Colorado Mountain, #2) by Kristen Ashley Romance. Those are next for me.

I'm going to wrap up The Gamble after dinner. I finished two earlier today.

Do I start the D8 task first. I might finish before the primaries or we can switch them out. I'm wait last four it.

You can read whichever one you want first. We're going by first come, first serve for the primaries. The names and books are just place holders really so we know who is reading for what task so we have at least two books per task for sure.
