Jumping up and down with excitement - check!
Notify me when people comment in this group - check!
Clear calendar for the next 18 weeks or so - check!
Finish current read before start of Wobble - in progress
Add books to TBR because my current tally of over 500 won't be enough to meet the possible tasks :) - in progress
That last point is another thing I enjoy most about challenges - looking for books that meet a specific task - I love discovering new reads!!
Sam wrote: "I haven't been so social these days. Anyone mind updating me on what's going on??"We're doing a mini-challenge while waiting for the Wobble to start. :) If you've marked any books as read since June 8th go ahead and see if any fit the mini-challenge rules - poooints! Hehe.
Tori wrote: "Do I have to talk to the mods if I forgot what my shelf name is supposed to be?Also, Just paid all of my Library fines so I can tap into that resource if need be, this challenge!"
Tori,
WOBBLE
:)
And yea being square with the library! Those fines can sneak up on ya like nothing else. ~checks behind her, just in case~
Ella wrote: "I actually love this part of these challenges as well where we have to go through our never ending list of TBRs to find suitable books that we once upon a time added but never got to it, since I add books faster than I can read them. hehe ."Don't we all! Half of the joy is in the anticipation, I think, and having an excuse to go through our (real or virtual) bookshelves. Because who doesn't like looking at books? :D
I am really looking forward to the challenge. A little worried I won't be able to keep up, but hopefully I will manage! I have no trouble adding books to my TBR shelf...in fact maybe I will do that right now, hopefully 2 hours before bed is enough time!

Woo-hoo, well done Ella! I'm going to enter it in the spreadsheet now. :)
eta: From the official rules: "If a land animal is being claimed as a character, it can not also be counted as a 'mention'." But that's only five points off, so no biggie. ^^v
Lory wrote: "I am really looking forward to the challenge. A little worried I won't be able to keep up, but hopefully I will manage!"As a team we're your personalized cheering section - you can do it! Rah rah rah! :D

Bwahaha, I love it. :)
I finished a book, The Terranauts: A Novel... can't really recommend it, but at least it had a bunch of animals in it!Mentioned - pig, monkey, cockroach (ew), ants, goats - 25 points
Annabeth wrote: "Oh no, I forgot my shelf name!"Fixed that for ya. ;) I'll make a request to the mods and let you know when I have a reply.
Tori wrote: "sorry my auto correct thinks your name is Karen. Kazen*"Hehe, no worries! Our mod for the challenge is Karen, so it may come in handy ;)
Quick question, is there any way to get notifications on just this thread? When I change it I get a ton of emails!
at the bottom, on the right before the type comment box, there is a line that says if you are following the thread. press edit notification settings and change it from email to notification only.
When I did that it somehow set email alerts for all wobble teams....that was a lot of emails. I think I've got it fixed! Thanks for the help!
Sam wrote: "Do dragon and crocodile count??"Dragon falls into mythological, I think, and crocodiles spend a lot of their time in the water so I'm going to have to say no to both. :(
Lory wrote: "When I did that it somehow set email alerts for all wobble teams....that was a lot of emails. I think I've got it fixed! Thanks for the help!"That would be so many emails... O.o

Battleship Rules are here! Yeaaaa!
Give it a thorough read - it's very different from the last Battleship challenge we had, in a good way. :)
For the first round we get to fire a volley of ten shots, all at once. I'm thinking we could pick squares all over the board to increase our chances of hitting something, then concentrate on previous hits with the next round of guesses.
Sooooo... everybody pick a square! You can see our (currently empty) board over here. The coordinates go "letter number", so if I wanted to pick the lower right hand corner that would be J10. We'll use these coordinates to, uh, coordinate our first attack. (It is early. The brain thesaurus is not working :P)
We do have more team members than guesses, so please don't take it personally if the square you chose isn't used. We are going for a scattershot pattern, so sticking to coordinates far away from other guesses may just increase your chances. ;)
Let's put on our tactical caps and Wobble! :D
I haven't been reading too much this week, but I did finish two books that work for some point in our chanlange
which has dogs in it- 5 pointsand
Land animal in title- 10
Land animals mentioned- rat and dog- 20
Land animal on cover- 10
---40 points total
So happy to have you Tammie and Brianna! Come introduce yourselves and jump right into the Battleship Wobble! :D
Just finished Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. It has a land animal in the title so it gets 10 points?Cat's Cradle
Melissa wrote: "Just finished Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. It has a land animal in the title so it gets 10 points?Cat's Cradle"
Oooo boy, this one is tough. I know cat's cradle as a game you play with string, not the animal. Is there a cat in the book by any chance?
Related not related - I so need to read some Vonnegut, I haven't gotten to him yet. Maybe if we need an author starting with V....
@KazenIt was a ridiculously large amount of emails, thank goodness it is fixed.
I would pick G7 as my square. If that is not how you wanted us to provide squares, let me know!
I'm really excited!!
Lory wrote: "I would pick G7 as my square. If that is not how you wanted us to provide squares, let me know! "That's perfect - thank you!
~makes a mark on her scribbled gameboard~
eta: And me, so excited to be camping out in the team thread? Oh no. Definitely not.
~F5 F5 F5 F5....~
eta2: Maybe I should chose F5 as my square....
There's a painting in Cat's Cradle with the title "Cat's Cradle" and a character says something along the lines of "there's no damn cat in it" or "it doesn't even look like a cat". Does that count as a mention?
Melissa - this one is too close for me to call so I will take your question to a higher power and let you know eta: And go ahead and pick a square, any square! :D
ME-> first thing in the morning with eyes half closed checks wobble team page on phone-> WOOHOO!! team challenge!!Okay so I am new to this and have never played batteleship with books o.0 so I am going to need a lot of help. :D I pick (u picked my center block hehe) I choose D2 !!

This is our highest scoring book so far - way to go, Ella! I'm afraid I can't count the imp because it's more mythological than land, so if you have another land character I can slot in there let me know. :)
no i meant the hyena is an important character but they dont say his name(since hes the villian. thts no secret). thnk u kazen :)
Ella wrote: "no i meant the hyena is an important character but they dont say his name(since hes the villian. thts no secret). thnk u kazen :)"Oh, important "imp"! Got it, thanks for straightening that out :)
Hey Red Pandas! I'm Brianna and I was just assigned to your team. I live in Ohio. My top 2 genres are dystopia and crime. I'm very excited for WOBBLE because I have been in and out of a reading slump and the challenges at NBRC always help me get out of it.
heheh my mistake. iv gone so used to marking all the important parts fr my students to learn n writing 'imp' everywhere tht i didn't even notice it here. :)
This is my first reading challenge as I only joined this site a couple of months ago. I'm Chloe and I'm from Adelaide, South Australia. I like reading pretty much anything but mainly like reading books based on true stories, mystery/crime, young adult, vampire, and some romance ones, not too sappy though. I also like reading a book and then seeing how different it is to the movie. My favourite author is Jodi Picoult.
When I'm not reading I enjoy colouring in, playing games on my phone, doing puzzles, playing my 3DS, watching tv, and listening to music.
I like to stick to myself as I am a shy person so don't have many friends or go out much.

I'm excited to see what you'll be reading in the coming weeks - I like dystopia but have gotten away from it lately. And I totally agree - nothing busts a slump like a team challenge. :)

Glad to have you aboard, Chloe! Go ahead and pick a battleship square if you would like :)
I understand I am a new member of your team as well. I'm thrilled to be a Red Panda!I'm new to NBR, but have participated in other group challenges...these are a bit more complicated than I'm used to...will appreciate being prodded along at first...usually catch on pretty quickly.
I read quite a lot...2-4 books per week...I hope to contribute well.
I love Romance of any kind, some paranormal, love a good mystery/suspense. I really don't care for non-fiction, but will read if needed.
I'm a Real Estate agent...this is my busy time, but I still manage to get my reading in... Being an empty nester helps ;)
I think today is day 1 of Battleship so we haven't lost a lot of ground with me being late to our team.
I'll read through everything...looks like we are picking squares.
