description

Alarm bells are ringing on Planet Olympus. The evil Queen Vanda has her eye set on WOBBLE.

Vanda's mission is to destroy all sports in the galaxy since fairness disgusts her, so, it would be a matter of time till NBRC became a target. We are known for our awesome team challenges, fair play and team effort.

Following his queen's order, the gnome Sipe is running havoc on WOBBLE grounds, misplacing books, disarranging shelves, scattering pages and worse, setting traps that once activated will release the dreaded reading rut potion, that will make all mood to read crumble and die.

Once more, the faith of Olympics is on the hands of Sport Billy, his sidekicks Lilly and Willy, and his magic size-changing gym bag!

description

"I want to inject the spirit of the Olympics into all of NBRC to counterattack Silpe's wrong doings. If you can inject spirit in the following way, I will grant you one bonus from my bag."

description

To inject Olympic Spirits into NBRC:
Lilly & Willy will spin the wheel for your team. Then check and complete the corresponding task. Send proof of completed task to Planet Olympus.(*)

List of tasks:

A - Do a buddy read
B - Suggest a challenge
C - Post a story
D - Welcome 10 new members to the group
E - Recommend a book to a member in the recommendations folder
F - Comment in 5 different NBRC threads
G - Engage in a conversation with another WOBBLE team
H - Suggest an event/new feature for NBRC
I - Suggest a reading tasks/theme for Labors of Bookules
J - Suggest a non reading game

(*)Send a PM to the Mod Account

description

When complete...Grab One Prize from the Omni-Sack:

- One fight sprint may be done out of order.
- Someone else may read one of the 3 mandatory books for another person.
- 2 books may be moved in the spreadsheet to other spots.
- +50 page range to one page jumping task (so a 101 page book can be used in place of a 151 page book)
- The page numbers of one book may be re-arranged to form a new number (example: 250 pages may turn into 520 pages.)
- An alternate cover may be used for the one book read.
- One bonus round of your choice may be opened up before completing the event.
- One book from the travel agent Olympics shelf may be used.
- One plural word may be made singular
- One book that does not qualify for Olympics that has been read for wobble may be used
- The, An, or A may be excluded from one title.
- One member may read one back to back relay book.
- One coach may read a sports book instead of a fight book
- One cover colour may be 40% instead of 60%

description

To promote fairness and battle the evil Queen Vanda:

Teams will be divided into a three tier system ( using a points and books read combo rule)

Top Tier: Up to 1 spin of the wheel
Middle Tier : Up to 3 spins of the wheel
Lower Tier : Up to 5 spins of the wheel

description

Disclaimer #1: This event is just a bonus. If your team feels that Queen Vanda & Sipe's attempts are not having any effect, you can opt it out

Disclaimer #2: Bonus can be claimed only once per team. Meaning if you get 3 spins, you get to choose 3 different bonus, not 3 times the same one.

Disclaimer #3: If you complete the task from the wheel and decide not to claim the Omni-Sack bonus, you can save it for later. However, there is no guarantees in which WOBBLE theme it can be used again, or what reward it can be exchanged for.

Ange (bentleyrise) | 484 comments Oooo this could help out with our little problem of event 1, we could swap out Rebecca and Angelines Never Never books with the other people who have read in heat 2.

Any suggestions, I love doing challenges but thinking up a new one not so good at. I do love the randomiser TBR and cover challenges though so a different take on the standard ones?

Ange (bentleyrise) | 484 comments What about:

**Read the first book in your TBR that was published in the year you were born (if no book is available read the closest book published to the year you were born)
**Read the first book in your TBR that the author's first name begins with the same first name as your own.
**Read the first book in your TBR that the author's last name begins with the same last name as your own.
**How tall are you? Read the book that corresponds to your height (can use inches or cms)
**Read the first book in your TBR that starts with the first letter of your favourite food

Need about 8 more

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments I am actually doing a couple of buddy reads but they are not in NBRC so i don't think it counts :-/

That being said I am totally on board with doing a buddy read here as well.

I will look at some books i am wanting to read now and post at some stage today in the buddy reads request thread

Yes! I haven't started Aristotle and Dante yet, so I could get reading as soon as I'm home.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments All right. Count me in!

Yes Gillian! And a pretty landscape at that.

I'm gonna go and ask for a thread set up and say we start... today or tomorrow? But we can both start anytime. It's an informal buddy read anyhow.

Update: I also went ahead and asked if anyone wanted to join us. My copy is at 249 pages so could use it for page jumping too. How many pages your copy?

message 1464: by Ange (new)

Ange (bentleyrise) | 484 comments Im in for the Ranger's Apprentice buddy read too.

message 1470: by Skandia (new)

Skandia (sfgirl) | 1724 comments Do we all have to read the BR book?

Sry girls, I'm a little slow with my reading right now. I'm almost done with a book for Event 2 and started Size 12 Is Not Fat for Event 5. So I'm trying to get the mandatory books for Olympics done first.

message 1471: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 1439 comments Good work on the challenge and the buddy read!

No you don't have to join Skandia :) How are you liking Size 12 so far?

message 1472: by Skandia (new)

Skandia (sfgirl) | 1724 comments It's surprisingly good. Light and fun reading. The main character Heather has a good sarcastic humor and all the talk about weight issues doesn't even bother me much.

message 1473: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 1439 comments Hi Karmisha

The Angelfell book on your shelf has 288 pages - can you check that you've shelved the correct edition?

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments So my shelved kindle edition of ranger's apprentice has 268 pages. Why does everyone else's editions have less than 250?

Spacing and page size, and some ebook sellers configure the numbers themselves. It's probably good to have one over 250 though, so it can be used for a different page count in Event 2.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I have the hardcover edition.

Finished the 4 hr sprint. Phew. I chose the wrong book to read. Nothing happened until about the end... page 336 to be exact. And Rhys was more interesting than Tamlin.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Thank you Viji and Ange. It was intense *wipes brow* ;)

I've been meaning to start on the Dresden Files too. Now he's got a new series to add to the TBR. There's a series buddy read of that here in NBRC.

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments I will get around to reading the dresden files one of these days. I did watch a few of the episodes when it was a tv show for all of 5 minutes and kept meanng to get around to the books

1. There's finally an elephant in Water for Elephants. At 40% I'd given up on one. I like the book the further it goes.

2. I can do the 5 hour sprint tonight.

I was surprised when I actually enjoyed the book! Thought I would hate it. Have you picked a book for Event 2 yet? Not sure if you did and I've missed your post

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Maybe we use A Court of Thorns and Roses for decorating the chariot? I was thinking thorns and then fire too if we find a book with fire on the cover :)

message 1489: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccaemma) | 85 comments I finished Fahrenheit 451
Date: 10/7/2016
pages: 159
How it fits: Page jumping 151-200 pages

School holidays are now over so I'm back with a renewed vigour!

I should finish Hold Still by tomorrow

I should be done with The White Elephant: A Holiday Thriller by the end of the week

I'm currently listening to the audiobook version of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children as it came off hold for me at the library and I've been waiting for it for a couple of months - have to finish it in 3 days though. Will be tough! Hoping it will slot it somewhere at some point
The guy who is narrating this also narrated The Lightning Thief which I listened to recently. I keep getting the story line confused because the voice is the same, haha.

I haven't started Never Never yet.... is that something I still need to do? Because I will get right onto it.

I have a copy of Pennsylvaniait only has 100 pages but has a nice big wheel on it for Event 5 part 2

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Hi Kimberly. The Nightingale is for Event 2. I enjoyed that book more than I did All the Light We Cannot See. Happy "reading" :)

Book: The Iron Trial byHolly Black
date read: 11/7/16
Pages: 304
fits: event 3 round 2 iron in title

message 1496: by ~~~N~~~ (new)

~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 616 comments Finished the 5 hour sprint. Maybe I should have chosen a different time and a different book though. I got interrupted while reading 5 times (and it was kinda important, but still) and the halfway through I realized how tall/big the pages of my book were (and then I was anxious and nitpicky). But it's done (yay) and I'm going to go read sappy romance and finish the last pages of my fight club book tomorrow.
Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut  (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments congrats on getting it done Noa! I can't remember the last time I had 5 hours in a row to just read :-)
message 1498: by Ange (new)
Ange (bentleyrise) | 484 comments Awesome work Noa, hope your eyes arent too tired
message 1499: by ~~~N~~~ (last edited Jul 11, 2016 05:53AM) (new)
~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 616 comments 5 hours was definitely a stretch, but I usually do 3 hours of reading a day at night (between 9-1) and maybe an hour of scattered time during the daylight. It's luxurious time in lieu of a S.O. or nighttime social life.

Hopefully you get more time in the future! A day free of errands and work, with a book at your side. Isn't that kind of the aim for paradise?

They are, Ange. But it's only 11, so I'm staying up for a while.
