After hearing about the death of Phillip Roth, I have been wanting to read another novel of his after enjoying The Human Stain. I am planning on reading American Pastoral soon if anyone wants to join :)

I'm in for this one!
Darren wrote: "Pink - there's agreement on the requests thread for Portnoy's Complaint in September btw"Adding to the schedule :)
Thanks, Darren. I just realised now I should have mentioned it here as well. Thanks for adding, Pink!
Yeah, Brina!!!! I jumped a little early and started reading it yesterday. I can't wait to join in with the group reading it. So far, I'm really loving Patton's writing style.
Hello. We have 3 people interested in a buddy read of The House of the Spirits in April. Will you please add it to the schedule and set up a thread? Thank you!
Milena wrote: "Hello. We have 3 people interested in a buddy read of The House of the Spirits in April. Will you please add it to the schedule and set up a thread? Thank you!"I think I might join that!

Thank you, Pink.
I’ve added it to the list and linked to our existing discussion threads, as this book has been a previous group read.
And happily it looks like our buddy read of Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin can be canceled. It is ahead in the polls now for our March Group Read. So is Chess Story. Looks like a buddy read was just the push we needed to get these books to win a poll.

Will do!
I'm so excited to see that Bleak House and The Caine Mutiny are on the buddy read schedule -- two that I've been wanting to read for quite awhile. And this will push me to do it! I'm putting them on my reading schedule right now! :)

Though they aren't really doing well … :(
Just to say I intend to join the buddy read for Bleak House. Been meaning to read it for ages! Might be tempted to join for The Caine Mutiny too :0)
I'm preparing to start Bleak House tomorrow! It's been on my list for SO long! Looking forward to reading it with other readers -- more fun that way ;)
I think so, although I shan’t start immediately. I have an ungodly amount of titles planned for March and had better to go through a few before starting BH. I’m tempted to re-read Pride and Prejudice too :O)
Me too! I’m totally overcommitted, but want to read Bleak House, so I’ll probably start tomorrow. I’m going to try the librivox audiobook and see how I get on with that, it’s 39 and a half hours, so that’s just over an hour a day to finish within the month!
LOL :O)I’m thinking of using audio too. Have you ever listened at a faster rate? I usually end up at 1.5x
I like using audiobooks for classic literature. I have a copy of Bleak House narrated by the British actress Miriam Margolyes
Yes I sometimes listen sped up, it depends on the narrator and how fast they read.Oh I like Miriam Margolyes, I’ve never listened to an audiobook narrated by her though. I hope it’s good!

When I sampled it he sounded like a pretty good reader.
After looking at the chapter lengths, I think I will try to listen to a chapter/day (maybe more if they're short) and plan to finish by the end of April. That kind of plan has worked for me before, doesn't push me too much, and still allows me to read & listen to other books. That way I don't feel bogged down by having to read & finish Bleak House in a rush.
Someone was mentioning listening at a faster rate. I don't usually do that because I don't like the hurried feeling I get when I hear the voice going so fast -- but when I get close to the end or if a book starts to get draggy and I'm ready for it to be over, then I do speed it up!
I'm excited & ready to begin! :)
Same here, librivox version 3 for me!Here's the link to the spoiler thread we'll be using for Bleak House. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Will I be the only one not using an audiobook for this? I'm looking forward to starting. I'm a little behind on my group reads already though. I do like audiobooks depending on the narrator. Like Terris, I don't usually speed it up unless it's boring me and I'm getting close to the end. Kirsten, you'll have to let us know what you think of the version narrated by Miriam Margolyes. I really like her.
Hi, Pink~Can you please add Laughing Boy: A Navajo Love Story to the schedule for April and set up a thread?
So far, there are three of us joining in this Buddy Read (Brina, Marilyn and me). We would love to have others join us. This book won the Pulitzer Prize in 1930.
Thank you!

All done :)
Just a reminder to Rachelnyc and Renee, and anyone else interested in joining our April buddy read of The House of the Spirits. I can't find the discussion thread at the moment, but when I do I will come back here and link to it.
Lori and I are planning to read Riders in the Chariot by Patrick White starting mid-April. We would be pleased to have anyone join who might be interested.
Pink--do I set up the thread or do you need to?

Thanks Milena! I am anxiously awaiting my library hold to come through but it looks like I won’t be able to start around the 15th. Looking forward to it!
Rachelnyc wrote: "Thanks Milena! I am anxiously awaiting my library hold to come through but it looks like I won’t be able to start around the 15th. Looking forward to it!"I will probably start earlier than that. I am not a very fast reader.

You may set up the thread if you like, or ask a moderator and we will do it for you. Either works.

I am a fast-ish reader so hopefully it will work out well. I’m also hoping someone returns their ebook early so I get it sooner.
