Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11204 comments 5.6 - Abstract Design
Read a book with an abstract cover design. Covers consisting of blocks of color and/or geometric shapes will work. There should be no identifiable, naturalistic elements on the cover. Ex:
The Problem with Forever by Jennifer L. Armentrout Euphoria by Lily King Animal Farm by George Orwell Frank Lloyd Wright A Life by Ada Louise Huxtable Uncommon Sense Economic Insights, from Marriage to Terrorism by Gary S. Becker All Tomorrow's Parties A Memoir by Rob Spillman The Pier Falls And Other Stories by Mark Haddon When We Collided by Emery Lord She of the Mountains by Vivek Shraya Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver
Required: Include the cover when you post.

Rather Picasso-esque. Yes, that works.

The geometric shapes of the windows?"

No, sorry, Sheila. To be abstract, the geometric shapes shouldn't come together to form an identifiable, naturalistic element like a window. You're looking more for things like concentric circles (or squares), blocks of color, stripes, etc. Sorry!

no problem Kristi. I am totally clueless about this task.

Try looking for a cover that has nothing on it that you can identify by name. Chances are, that'll work... ;-)

message 18: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments OK Kristi, I'll take another stab at this. Do either of these fit the bill?

Trust Your Eyes by Linwood Barclay or I'm Traveling Alone (Holger Munch & Mia Kruger, #1) by Samuel Bjørk ??

No, sorry, Lauren. Each one of those covers has a realistic, recognizable, real world object on it. Abstract art is more about getting away from reality. Over the next couple of days, there will probably be a lot of examples in post 2 that will work. Maybe that will help direct what you're looking for.

The Barclay one won't work. There are buildings and a car on there. But I'm Traveling Alone (Holger Munch & Mia Kruger, #1) by Samuel Bjørk works.

No, sorry, still an identifiable, real-world scene.

Nearly all of these will work.

The only ones that won't work are:
Dark Eden by Chris Beckett ~ identifiable landscape (even if alien)
The Last Bookaneer by Matthew Pearl ~ book pages
The Mammoth Cheese by Sheri Holman ~ American flag

So, lots of choices! ;-)

Solid blocks of color (including just one color) will work. So this one's OK.
