Give A Recommendation, Get A Recommendation
Gretchen. I hereby challenge you to read A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. make sure you get the illustrated it adds so much more to the story.
Thanks Jade and Kathryn! I will definitely try to read those! They have been on my to-read list for some time, so I really want to read them!
Jade: it looks like you and I both loved the Magician: Apprentice, so I would recommend The Way of Kings.
This is such an awesome idea!! I'm putting in a placeholder for Kathryn! I'll edit the post with a recommendation as soon as I look through your lists. So, I noticed you have read several dystopian/utopian novels. You have The Giver on your to read list and I would absolutely encourage you to pick that one up. It's one of my all time favorite books. There are three other books that follow that one as well. I also saw that the Lunar Chronicles were an interest on your shelves and I highly recommend you pursue the remainder of that series as well. However, since I don't want to just recommend books that it looks like you already know about, I think you might enjoy Throne of Glass or The Missing series by Margaret Peterson Haddix. Found is the first book. Throne of Glass is fantasy and Found is a...well, I can't say without spoiling. Its a lower level ya, historical and science fiction, but the plot is really good. The entire series is very well done and I love Haddix. Anything by her is worth picking up for sure. Hope you enjoy one of these!!!
Hi Kara! I see you love memoirs, and one of my favorite memoirs is I Must Say: My Life as a Humble Comedy Legend by Martin Short! It's super hilarious, and it is as funny, maybe even funnier, than Tina Fey's or Amy Poehler's.
Sorry, Lucia! I saw you have one of Cat Valente's books on your shelves. My favorite Valente is Silently and Very Fast. :)
Lucia I will recommend that you read Kushiel's Dart I see that it's one you havent read and though i warn you it is a chunkie book the writing is beautiful and wort5h the time!
Sorry about that also, Lucia! I see you want to read Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series, and I have read some of them! I recommend First Among Sequels! You'll enjoy it!
Diana, I see you have read the first book of the Wheel of Time and the first book of A Song of Ice and Fire and rated them with 5 stars. I would recommend The Witches of Eileanan by Kate Forsyth.
Diana I challenge you to read All the Light We Cannot See since it is on your to read list. It was fantastic and I think you will really enjoy it.
Leslie wrote: "Diana , I recommend A Man Called Ove. It is very heartwarming story."Thank you Leslie. It was spot on. I bought it not so long ago and it will be the next book i read. :)
Jeana wrote: "Diana, I see you have read the first book of the Wheel of Time and the first book of A Song of Ice and Fire and rated them with 5 stars. I would recommend The Witches of Eileanan by [..."Thank you Jeana. It sound very interesting. I'll definetly read it. :)
Amber wrote: "Diana I challenge you to read All the Light We Cannot See since it is on your to read list. It was fantastic and I think you will really enjoy it."Thank you Amber. Challenge accepted! Your recommandation was spot on too. I just bought the book three days ago. :D
Hi Leslie, I haven't read A Man Called Ove but the description reminded me somewhat of Little Children by Tom Perrotta. Enjoy!
Randy
Amber, I noticed The Grapes of Wrath is on your list. Great book! I challenge you to read it! I read it as a kid.A more recent read for me is Outlander. I abandoned it once, and I went back to it early this year and loved it. Highly recommended!
Aww, Alisia! I had so much fun looking through your book lists and getting lost. We have a lot of books in common. I noticed you liked Sharon Creech's latest book. I adore her books! Start with Walk Two Moons; I love how her minor characters become major characters in other books. Her poetry is really fun as well.
Alisia wrote: ":( I was skipped too..."Based on your 4 star ratings of the Vampire Academy series, I would recommend The Forbidden Game by L.J. Smith. The series was originally written in the 90's so it's not really modern in terms of clothing descriptions and stuff but it was a book I read in high school that got me hooked on fantasy books.
Melissa, you seem to like books about books so I would definitely recommend Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops for you.Jeana, I see you have His Majesty's Dragon on your tbr shelf. I would definitely suggest you put this on the top of your pile as it is a really good fantasy novel.
Hey Melissa, (while I was writing this, two more people commented lol) I have a great recommendation for you. I was looking through your books and we have similar tastes in a few genres. I also see you read a lot of Christian based books. So, I recommend The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For?. It's a great read to learn about yourself with God.
Rachael wrote: "Melissa, you seem to like books about books so I would definitely recommend Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops for you.Jeana, I see you have His Majesty's Dragon..."
Thanks Rachael! At the moment I'm trying to read series/trilogies that are complete. The Temeraire series is still going so I haven't considered reading it in the near future but I will definitely keep it in mind now :)
Melissa wrote: "Thanks, Rachael and Elizabeth! I will check those out!"You're welcome! I hope you enjoy the book.
Rachael wrote......."I think you haven't been recommended a book yet. If so, I can do this again. In the past you recommended Beastly. Which is still on my list. However, since the April group read, I think we have a somewhat similar taste in novels.
I recommend you finally pick up Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
:))
Gretchen - After comparing our shelves, I noticed you have All the Light We Cannot See on your tbr. I can't recommend this enough! Hope you enjoy it!
Hi Kelly! I always recommend this for young adult lovers: Between Shades of Gray! It is my favorite book, and I think you'll enjoy it. If you want a book set in modern-day, try reading Mosquitoland.
Kester, I will recommend Vaclav and Lena to you! I looove this book!!! <3Please, I want to read a book released in Portuguese, so try to recommend something that is not so new. :D
Babitix wrote: "Kester, I will recommend Vaclav and Lena to you! I looove this book!!! <3Please, I want to read a book released in Portuguese, so try to recommend something that is not so new. :D"
I see The Raven Boys on your to-read shelf, and I can't recommend this series enough! These books have quickly become my favorites!
Hi, Christa!Wow! We have read A LOT of the same books! I noticed one book on your to-read shelf that is an excellent pick, The Siren, and I highly recommend that one. I haven't read the new edition, but the first edition was brilliant.
Other books I would recommend based on our similar tastes would be Uglies, Deception, Ruby Red, The Always War, The Goose Girl, and Princess of the Midnight Ball. Uglies was fantastic, I thought, but I wouldn't highly recommend the rest of the series. Deception is a little dark, but a very fun dystopian read. Ruby Red I think you will really, really enjoy! The Always War is also a great utopian type of read--anything by Haddix is amazing! The Goose Girl one of my favorite books of all time--Hale is also excellent--a classic fairy tale retold with a lot of imagination. And Princess of the Midnight Ball is just a fun, less well-known fairy tale.
Any finally, I noticed that you read a little in the Christian fiction and non-fiction world. I am personally a huge fan of C. S. Lewis, so read all you can of his stuff. In similar spirit, I will recommend New Birth: The Singing Sword Brigade Book One until I'm blue in the face. One of the most amazing modern Christian fantasies if you ask me. It's only available as an ebook, but all three books out are absolutely phenomenal. The fourth book is due out soon. Also, Melanie Dickerson writes some very wonderful Christian fairy tales, if you would be interested in those. And, lastly, Terri Blackstock writes intriguing thrillers in Christian fiction that you might want to look into.
Have fun reading! I hope some of these line up with your tastes!!
Oh! And Austenland by Shannon Hale is a Jane Austenatic pleasure ride! ;-)
Hi Coralie! I saw that you have "The Maze Runner" on your to-read list, and I love that series! I highly recommend reading it (but not the prequel)!
Kester wrote: "Hi Coralie! I saw that you have "The Maze Runner" on your to-read list, and I love that series! I highly recommend reading it (but not the prequel)!"Thank you!

Thanks so much Coralie! I'll definitely add some of those to my wishlist! :)
Taylor R., I think you were skipped! After looking through your favorites and combing through your to-read shelf, I've picked The Time Traveler's Wife. I think you will really enjoy it! Even I loved it, and I almost never like books with romance as a central element. (If you're not in the mood for romance at the moment, my other pick for you would be The Joy Luck Club. Amy Tan is so good at exploring family relations, especially between mothers and daughters, as well as cultural nuances.)I think Kester is the next person above me who hasn't had a rec to match his latest rec given. :)
Kester, I compared our books. I am going to recommend The Night Circus to you! It is in my top 5 favorite books! Be warned, it is hard to follow at times because there are so many characters and the date of the story jumps around, but still an awesome book!
Hi Candiss, I had a lot of fun going through your shelves! I saw that you got a lot of classic on your read and to read lists, so i'll recommand you to give a go to Cyrano de Bergerac! It's a great play! And I also found Choderlos de Laclos Dangerous Liaisons (Les liaisons dangereuses). I've read them at university and loved them (the french originals, so sorry, I can't say anything about the translations...)! I hope you'll have fun! :)
And Kelly, as you post almost at the same moment i does, here what i suggest for you. I saw that you have Ray Bradbury's Farenheit 451 on your to read list. I find it a great book talking about books and society! Hope you'll love it! :)
Hi Andréa! I am recommending my absolutely favorite book since it's on your to-read list, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Since you enjoy historical fiction, I also recommend another favorite of mine, Calling Me Home.
Melody, I was looking through your list of favourites and books that you've read and I noticed you liked The Secret Life of Bees. Have you tried The Help? If not, I'd highly recommend it.
Rachel wrote: "Melody, I was looking through your list of favourites and books that you've read and I noticed you liked The Secret Life of Bees. Have you tried The Help? If not, I'd highly recommen..."Rachel, I have read it. I need to update my shelf. LOVED it!
Rachel wrote: "Melody, I was looking through your list of favourites and books that you've read and I noticed you liked The Secret Life of Bees. Have you tried The Help? If not, I'd highly recommen..."Rachel, you and I have a lot of books in common, mostly ones we'd both read, but still quite a few that I'd read and that you are yet to read. I could have suggested at least five, but will restrict myself to The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne because you seem to like books with twists in the tale. There's a movie, but if you haven't already seen it, read the book first, and don't try to find out what it's about, if you don't already know. The friend who lent it to me and told me I "must read it" wouldn't tell me what it was about or why I had to read it, and her copy of the book had no blurb. It's sad, but very good.
