Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Its similar to Perks. On the contrary, Perks is said to be a rip-off of Catcher. Personally I enjoyed them both...
But I prefer to recommend Perks over Catcher to others :)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments yes its a classic.

message 253: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments I've finished first couple of chapters. Simple narration.

message 254: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Ok. I've reached the same chapter now. Will resume tomorrow.
But it's different. Can't compare to catcher or perks.
So far liking it.

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Me thinks Arpit went off to perform exorcism somewhere :/
Or may be he is scared to show up his ugly face!

message 256: by [deleted user] (new)

No, I didn't go anywhere. Just busy with college though.
I'll start today.

And I prefer to recommend Catcher over Perks to others ;)

You see, Catcher is a grower. I liked it when I first read it with Gorab, but found it not so special. But now I feel a sudden strange intense love towards it :-P

message 259: by [deleted user] (new)

I wrote a review for The Exorcist, but it became too long, si now I'm editing it and cutting unnecessary parts and making it less intense (after reading it I was like "hmm, I must have really hated the book") :D:D

Pranjali | 767 comments wow this is such a great book, I loved it. Hope you will like it too, good luck with the reading *_*

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments At 25%...
Though liking the naration and simple story, not finding anything extraordinary so far....

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Which restaurant? Glad you liked it :)

message 264: by [deleted user] (new)

In the middle of part 1. At "Lunch" precisely. Loving it.

message 265: by [deleted user] (new)

Julian is horrible. Charlotte reminds me so much of Hermione Granger. Mr. Browne's class was great.

A 100 times! Which branch?

message 268: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Somehow didn't get the notifications of this thread :\

I'm racing ahead. In middle of Part 2. (Around 50%)
Again loving it.

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Was thinking of starting a new book only after clearing current shelf and so read more of Wonder. Will wait for you guys now and pick another book in the mean time.

message 270: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Haven't been to this branch. We mostly visit one in Meenakshi Mall. Though they all claim to be the same, I liked the one in UBCity which is closed now :(

Sorry for the digression Arpit... I know you won't mind but just in case ;)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments I see Auggie's infatuation with Summer building up. Can't help it. Typical bollywood mentality :P

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Any guesses on the timeline of the story?

August's first day of school.
I don't like Julian either :/"

The way its written, Julian is a wicked character. What sharp and harsh blows on Auggie!
I'm not getting all the star wars references..... Which are many in this book.

message 274: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments A movie on this is in pipeline for 2017. Wonder who will play the lead role... and how will he look!

message 275: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Manasa wrote: "Gorab wrote: "Any guesses on the timeline of the story?"

No so far :/"

Could fit any time-frame. But I feel it may not be very modern... Because in today's world if you have so many suregries, you'd somehow look lookable??? If not what's the point of going through those surgeries?
Surgery wouldn't be that evolved in the time when it was written....

message 276: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments I saw images of treacher collins syndrome.... and I agree any number of surgeries can't help much :(

message 277: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Going by the description, that fits the bill. Or something very very similar...
How do you like it so far?

End of Part 1
(view spoiler)

August once gives a "Diary of a wimpy kid" reference (cheese touch). Well, that book was released in 2007, and that means the timeline is definitely post-2007.

message 279: by [deleted user] (new)

Done with part 1 and part 2. That Jack thing was too harsh. Sad. Didn't imagine it at all.

message 280: by [deleted user] (new)

"And Charlotte dressed up as Hermione Granger". Wow, I was getting this feeling from the very starting that her character is, somehow, influenced from Hermione's character.

message 281: by [deleted user] (new)

Part 2 was more important. I thought Via is like this unconditional-loving and supporting sister, but, well, she has her human flaws too. Having a special child in family affects every member.
What do you guyz think of Via -oops! sorry- Olivia's feeling towards Auggie?

message 282: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh my god! Just the previous day I was listening to Stripped (such a great album, btw), and 'Beautiful' stuck in my head, and then I started reading Wonder. I was like "Woah! This song goes very well with this book". And here it is *heart-shaped emoji*

message 283: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments loved Olivia's version the most. every child deserves love!
even in normal cases, sibling rivalry for love and being jealous is common.
feeling so bad for her because of circumstances.
would be interesting to get parents POV too.

message 284: by [deleted user] (new)

Done with Jack's part. Every partv is opening new doors. Knowing perspectives of every character is great. So, Jack is not that bad.

message 285: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Yes it's modern. wimpy kid, Facebook, gaming console (still confused whether Auggie has PlayStation or Xbox ... or both!)

Jealous? Maybe. It would be better if she had not described what Auggie looked like.
I think you are right Manasa. She's kinda jealous, for not getting any attention at all. But she's not in a mean way or something. She just can't help it. And she also know that any of her problem is nothing compared to Auggie's. Her character is as human as it could be, with all of human flaws and qualities.

message 287: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments loving it. the kind of book I'll recommend to others...

100% agree. After all, she's not that big, still a child.

message 289: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey, any of you are gonna watch The Girl on the Train?

message 290: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Finished already?? I knew it even with a headstart :D
Might take a couple of days since am traveling with family...
I'm on J's part (Olivia's bf)... forgot the name.... not Justin, not Jack, not Julian... the remaining J.

message 291: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Where are you Arpit??

message 292: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments May watch girl on train. not too excited about it.

message 293: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Yay glad to have picked it since we all loved it (realistic assumption :P)
while me and Arpit read, pick the next one...

message 294: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments And by picking i mean only selecting, not starting it!

message 295: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm on part 8. Will finish it tomorrow.

Turns out Justin really, really hates capitals and quotation marks.

message 296: by [deleted user] (new)

There's one specific thing about this book which I liked very much, and about which I'll talk when on PC.

message 297: by [deleted user] (new)

So, I'm to choose the next book. Hmmm. But didn't you give me three options and I chose, out of them, The Exorcist- except that it turned out to be The Psychologist?
Well, whatever, I'll choose the next one.

message 298: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey, you liked The Man-eater of Malgudi, right? Well, it's not much of a question since you like almost every book. Gorab and I are gonna BR one of his book, a very short one, named Talkative Man- only 118 pages with normal fonts. (You know it's important to check fonts, 'cause sometimes publishers cheat with fonts.) Maybe you'd like to join, and then after that we may continue with our next book. Upto you. If not, we can directly jump upon the next one.

message 299: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Middle of part 8.... i get that quotation wala remark now :)

message 300: by Gorab (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments She's already frustrated with two talkative men here... please spare her more agony Arpit :D
