deleted user Hey Mishty,
This is our thread aka our kingdom :)
Let's start.
deleted user English Teacher is good, you can go for it.
Although I'll personally suggest u Tom Sawyer, if you love naughty kids :P

I'm sure you'll love Number The Stars. It's short too:)

Then there's Ginny's reco To Sir, With Love.

For English Teacher, I'd suggest you to read Swami & Friends and The Bachelor of Arts first. They are a part of an unofficial trilogy.
deleted user Suggestion for me?
deleted user From your shelves, I'm interested in Black Beauty, The perks of being a wallflower (ur 1-star might be my 5-star....just kidding), Speak and especially The Strange Case of Some doctor guy :P
deleted user Mishty, Narnia is good. Have you seen the movies?
But they are very childish. Very very childish. Very Childish.

For me, only book-1 and book-2 made a little sense. You could try book-1 (magician's nephew) and book-2 (the lion, the blah blah blah...)

If you had seen the first movie, i.e. The Lion, the witch...then you read only magician's nephew. It answers many question like "who was white which?" or "How the wardrobe was magical?"..etc.
deleted user Fantasy? Uhuh...actually I want to try fantasy, but they are always in series. I can't start new series now. I still have to complete the Giver series. Besides if it's a stand-alone fantasy (like Tigana), it will be more than 600 pages. It's difficult, since my exams are going on.
deleted user But if you know any fantasy-standalone book in less than 400 pags, then let me know. Okay duology will alos do.
deleted user Manasa wrote: "Black beauty narrated by a horse :/
I read it in seventh grade, don't remember it much :p"

But you gave it full-five!!*_*
deleted user Manasa wrote: "My mom has the entire R.K.Narayan collection "

Is your mom a RKN fan?

BTW, Bachelor of Arts is very good. It's my favourite RKN book till now.
deleted user Both are good. To Sir, with love is boring at some times. Honestly, the first quarter of the book is very boring but the later part is great.
Annette mathews Already started !! Great going :)
deleted user Thanks Ann.

@Mishty, you go with Number the stars.
deleted user But what will I read?
Million dollar question!!

Let me think for a while :)
deleted user So my options are:
Black Beauty
The Strange case of...
Speak
.....
...
And...
I think i'll start with the Strange case and if the time remains, I'll also read Black Beauty :)
deleted user But I'm in no condition to read before 4th of May. I'll start from 5th:)

Till then, let's spam :P:P
Jarvis 'ello! :P :D

Now thats what I call a real fantasy!
Jarvis Arpit wrote: "But if you know any fantasy-standalone book in less than 400 pags, then let me know. Okay duology will alos do."

Arpit, you can try The Last Wish. It is a fantasy book with short stories which are interconnected.
Jarvis Manasa wrote: "Have you read this,The Canterville Ghost?
It's fantasy+paranormal+slight humor+classic, it's good :)"

This one is in my syllabus this year.
Have it earlier too. Didn't like it much....

What's that? :P

They used to do that in school.

I read the unabridged version. Didn't like it...

I'm not a fan of short-stories. Skipped. Another reco, please.
deleted user Manasa wrote: "Have you read this,The Canterville Ghost?

Will read it. Some day.
deleted user This time I'll try to solve the strange case:P

First, best of luck for these two tests.
Secondly, best of luck for whatever you choose to do in future:)
deleted user Gorab wrote: "Now thats what I call a real fantasy!"

Well, the very first step of reading fantasy is thinking fantasies.
Jarvis Arpit, will search one for you, then :-)
Gorab An old thread on starting fantasy if it helps - here

ATB Mishty!
Jarvis Arpit, try The Shadow of The Wind. It is more of Historical Fiction and less of Fantasy but still a really great book....
Otherwise, read The Hobbit. And we can BR it since I want to read it too.
...you still HAVE to read Shadow of the wind though :D
Pranjali Gehna wrote: "Arpit, try The Shadow of The Wind. It is more of Historical Fiction and less of Fantasy but still a really great book....

I second that, The Shadow of the Wind is awesome!!!! the fantasy part is very minute but it's a great book....

good luck Misty :)

have you decided on which college courses you'll go with?
deleted user Gorab wrote: "An old thread on starting fantasy if it helps - here"

Well, thanks, but I don't want to read fantasy now. In future, maybe.

*Sneaks in in the June BOTM nomination thread and nominates The Hobbit*

Yeah, I'll surely read it. Hobbit? Check June Nomination.

Another reason to not miss this book.
Jarvis Arpit, seconded! :)
Gorab Which colleges you're trying Mishty? In Bangalore only or any other places too?
deleted user Manasa wrote: "@Arpit are you reading the eBook for the copycat challenge?"

Yep, ebook:)
deleted user Manasa wrote: "I'm 13% done.....doesn't this book remind you of The nightingale? The only thing is the plot is set in Denmark and that was in France"

Actually, there's a fine difference, you will notice soon.
deleted user See, this is from a child's perspective. Things are not that serious here.
Plus the second girl, what was her name, was adorable.
deleted user I liked its narration.
deleted user Had a very busy day. Couldn't start yet. I'll start it tonight (just after leaving GR)
deleted user I have started The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, although I already know that (view spoiler)
But Still I'm liking it.
deleted user Manasa wrote: "Kirsti?
Yeah I thought so too :D"

I totally forgot about the characters. I remember only the basic storyline :P

So Kristi was her (female protagonist, the child, and again what is her name) younger sister?
deleted user Well, it's like a half-empty glass or a half-full glass. Point of view changes a lot. In this book, the main characters aren't adults, but children. The war wasn't that fierce in this book. It's light, but still it manages to say what it wants to say. That's why I loved it.

The Nightingale, well, I already justified my rating in my review. Let's forget about that like a bad dream :)
deleted user OH MY GOD!!!
deleted user You finished it!! And Liked it!!
Wow.
deleted user I, too, will finish The Strange Case tonight.
deleted user Manasa wrote: "Here are my thoughts:

Wow. You really got the essence of the book. I agree with all these points.
I deducted one star 'cause the story wasn't complex at all. Actually, it's a children book :P
Have you read The Giver?
It's by the same author. You might like Giver, 'cause it's utopia.
deleted user I'm liking it. Although it's not as good as Dracula was!! But still till now it's 3.5 star material. Story is fast. I'd love it more if it was a novel instead of a novella. More detailing, I mean.
