Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments The end is here! Actually, it was here 2 hours ago. I thought with my being on a break from work this week I'd be more on top of the read-a-thon schedule but, unfortunately, it threw me off my schedule. Also, I got really engrossed in my reading. But it was a great time, as always, and I hope you guys enjoyed it too. Please help us moderators make this event the best it can be by providing us with feedback. We appreciate it!

1. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?

3. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Would you consider it a good read-a-thon book (engaging and entertaining)?

4. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time

5. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?

You're welcome to go back and do any of the challenges you're interested in that you may have missed. All in all, a successful read-a-thon, group! Pat yourselves on the back for a job well done.

Note: Look for another post a little later in reference to the prizes. I will be checking on the Bingos before I draw names and then I will post a winner. Good luck!

Zaz | 2969 comments 1. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
Yup, as usual, it was nice to follow everyone's progress and I really liked the scramble game :)

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I wanted to finish more of my ongoing books, but I started (and finished) new ones, as usual =_= My biggest distraction was my TBR :p

3. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Would you consider it a good read-a-thon book (engaging and entertaining)?
Shadow and Bones because it was a smooth and quick read. The Name of the Wind was very good too but it's big and slow, so not the best choice for a read-a-thon.

4. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time?
Nop

5. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Yup :)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments 1. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons? I did! I loved this week when I just lay on my couch and read read read :)
I don't think I have any suggestion for future read-a-thons, I love that it's a week long, the games where great, not too many so you lose too much time participating and reading others' participations, not too long so you spend half an hour writing down your answer, it was just good.

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions? I didn't set specific goals, except read a chapter of The Penguin History of New Zealand a day, which I absolutely didn't do haha. But otherwise I'm happy with what I read.
Biggest distraction... life? work ? haha. When I set my mind to read I didn't have big distractions.

3. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Would you consider it a good read-a-thon book (engaging and entertaining)? The Husband's Secret was a good read-a-thon book, it's a catchy, easy read that pulls you in.

4. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? I don't know if it's possible here on goodreads, but it could be fun to have like a global page or book count that increases every time a member adds what they read during the day.

5. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons? Yes absolutely!

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments 1. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
I had a lot of fun. It's always great to see our awesome group doing stuff together. It's such a great community here.

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I did - I wanted to read 500 pages and I hit that on the last day. My biggest distractions were just normal life, and also my wildly varying levels of apathy.

3. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Would you consider it a good read-a-thon book (engaging and entertaining)?
I wasn't overly enamoured with any of them, but probably My Man Jeeves, because that at least made me laugh.

4. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time?
Not really, as always it was a lot of fun, and the games were great. Well done and thank you!

5. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Ja!

Francesca | 780 comments 1. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
I did have fun and I really enjoyed the games and activities.

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
Not even close. I kind of failed at this read-a-thon week because I ended up having a very busy week/weekend and wasn't able to read as much as I wanted to. This always seems to happen. Weekends where there aren't read-a-thon's I have nothing to do so I'm free to participate, weekends when there are read-a-thons life decides to make me busy.

3. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Would you consider it a good read-a-thon book (engaging and entertaining)?
I was still reading the same book. It's a very conflicting book and I can understand why it's so divisive. I'm actually enjoying reading it, strangely, but I don't know if I actually like it or not. I don't know if that makes sense.

4. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time
Nope, I thought it was great!

5. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Yes! Hopefully, if life allows it then yes definitely!

1. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
I loved how much participation there was! It great to see all of the updates and I was impressed with all the reading. People definitely outdid me :P

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I didn't have work this week since it's a school break but I still didn't meet my goal. I forced myself to spend some time spring cleaning and I also have been working on a photobook for my fiance's birthday. Condensing 10 years of time into a book is a little challenging! But I still have plenty of days left in my break so I'm hoping to still meet my goal, even if it wasn't during the read-a-thon hours.

3. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Would you consider it a good read-a-thon book (engaging and entertaining)?
I only read one novel (Faithful Place) but I also really enjoyed my short story read In the Tall Grass)

4. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time?
I love hearing from others on this one but I don't have any :P

5. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Of course!

I had fun. I like reading everyones updates.

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I met my goal, but I set the bar low because I already new I wouldn't have a lot of reading time. Unfortunately I already had a lot of plans for this week.

3. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Would you consider it a good read-a-thon book (engaging and entertaining)?
I started rereading Harry Potter och Dödsrelikerna, yes it is very engaging and entertaining.

4. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time
No, it was very good :)

5. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Yes, and hopefully I will have more time to participate

Sarah | 539 comments 1. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
I sure did! I loved that it was a week long and the games were great, not too many, just the right amount I thought. Oh yes I hope that we can do a couple more this year!

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I sure did. I finished all the books I wanted to plus one extra one! I would have to say the weekend was my biggest distraction. I didn't work so I didn't do as much reading for some reason, lol.

3. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Would you consider it a good read-a-thon book (engaging and entertaining)?
Any of the four Agatha Christie books I read/listened to. They Do It with Mirrors, A Murder Is Announced, A Pocket Full of Rye, A Caribbean Mystery They were perfect for the read-a-thon because they are quick reads and pretty short audio books too. I am on a Miss Marple kick this year so this was the perfect time to read as many of them as I could!

4. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time
Nope I think you guys did a great job!

5. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Yes I sure do!

Maple (maplerie) | 1025 comments Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?

I did! I loved the interaction, the support, the games, and of course, all the reading :D

Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?

I didn't really set any goals, I just wanted to see how many books I could get through in a week. Distractions included traveling, though that helped some, work obligations, friends, and RL book club. I did do much out of work socializing this past week, because books - Gotta Read Them All ;)

What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Would you consider it a good read-a-thon book (engaging and entertaining)?

It's a tie between Red Dragon and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. RD I could be a great RAT book, for the right person. I personally really enjoy the dark and disturbing books (what does that say about me), but I could see how it could be difficult for some people. It was a well written book that was very engaging. What I like about it, is that it has been days since I finished it, and I'm still thinking about it. Chills and creeps *shudders*. TCCOBB is also great, but as a book that's under 100 pages it's a quick one to get through no matter what. It's light-hearted yet serious at the same time. It really got me thinking a lot about various aspects of my life, especially my interactions with other people, especially out in that thing called a dating pool.

Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time?

None. I thought this was great. Emm did a wonderful job moderating it and keeping us hooligans in line. It was fun, and her effort really showed. well done, lady :D

Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?

I want too, if timing works outs. This is the first RAT I've been able to participate in, and I REALLY enjoyed it. The ones in the reading challenge group last year just never seemed to fit with my schedule. I am really looking forward to future events!

Brianna (bebecburt) | 546 comments 1. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
This was so much fun! I've struggled in previous read-a-thons because there's nothing to keep me invested, whereas all the games definitely kept me invested. I really loved the Bingo challenge! I can't say I would want any more of any one thing. I think this was so successful! There was a good balance of games and questions and support.

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I did reach my reading goal. I wanted to read 1,500 pages and read just over 1,600 pages total. My biggest distractions was life in general. Having to work and deal with the random emergencies that popped up made it hard on some days to focus.

3. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Would you consider it a good read-a-thon book (engaging and entertaining)?
I would say Tone Deaf was my favorite book for this read-a-thon. I read it in a day. I think it was a good read-a-thon book because it was engaging and easy to pick up between life happening during the day.

4. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time?
I don't really think there's anything I would change!

5. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
I definitely plan on participating in future read-a-thons with this group. This one was so much fun!

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments 1. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
I liked the read-a-thon, but I didn't find it too different from my normal week of reading. I liked some of the games, especially the Would You Rather. I liked seeing how much participation there was. I'm not sure what I'd change for the future.

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
Technically, yes but that's only because I didn't set a solid goal. My goal was just to read as much as possible, and I did that but I would have liked to have finished The Cuckoo's Calling. My biggest distraction was just my normal schedule. I only have time to read in the evenings after work, and it's been a particularly hectic and stressful few weeks. I read as much as I could but by the end of the day I was pretty tired and didn't read as much as I would have liked.

3. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Would you consider it a good read-a-thon book (engaging and entertaining)?
Definitely Goodnight Tweetheart. It's a perfect read-a-thon book because it's short, easy to read, but a great story.

4. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time
I'd love more games like the Would You Rather or something like a book tag. Other than that, I don't think I'd change much.

Although I have to say, I did at times feel a bit discouraged by seeing how quickly and how much everyone else had read. I know it's not a competition, but I was a little discouraged to be progressing very slowly on the same book while everyone else is flying through theirs. I think that's more my problem than a problem with the format though.

5. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Probably, since I read every day anyway. I would definitely participate in the games, but I don't think I'd set myself a solid goal.

I hear you, Rachel. I definitely felt like a slacker a lot of the time since I was still on my same main book for the length of the read-a-thon. I did throw in a few short ones just so I could get the satisfaction of finishing some :P

Aglaea | 369 comments 1. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
Absolutely! Reading first, then progress posts, then games. Same stuff, please!

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I set myself up for success: "More!" Over 1400 pages read is fantastic, surpassed my wildest dreams.

3. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Would you consider it a good read-a-thon book (engaging and entertaining)?
I think the most memorable is What's Left of Me

4. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time?
Not really, I just have to pay more attention early enough so I can plan a bit first, before going all in.

5. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Woohoo yes!!!

message 14: by °~Amy~° (new)

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) 1. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?

Absolutely! I liked everything about this read-a-thon. As someone else said, there were just the right amount of games and such so I didn't feel like I was being pulled away from my reading to do online stuff.

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?

I didn't really have a goal per say. I had thought I would "easily" read 1000 pages but that didn't happen. I was 101 pages shy in the end I believe. I had two days with a nasty sinus headache that kept me from reading much on top of the normal life distractions but I still did well none the less.

3. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Would you consider it a good read-a-thon book (engaging and entertaining)?

I read Kite Runner and Bowl of Fruit (1907) during this read-a-thon. Both of these I enjoyed WAY more than I had thought I would so that was a great surprise for me. I wasn't as happy with the third book that I read, but I still enjoyed it. It just couldn't live up the the other two.

4. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time?

Not really. It was very well done.

5. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?

Depending on what else is going on I probably will.

Marta (gezemice) | 859 comments 1. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
Oh yes! Loved the games, it was also funto see what everyone was reading and how fast.

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I was continuing with my regular list, and Wolf Hall is probably not the best for a read-a-thon - long and dense, and often confusing so I had to re-read parts. But I put it off for one reason or another for 4 months now, I was going to read it! Slowed me down. Also, spring weather just arrived so projects outside started.

3. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Would you consider it a good read-a-thon book (engaging and entertaining)?
I liked both Eric and Blue is the Warmest Color, they are both easy reads and engaging, one is funny, the other is sad, both short but good.

4. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time
I am amazed how great you guys ran this. All the games, all the effort, and the quality was amazing, too! I don't have anything to add just keep on doing a great thing!

5. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Yes, definitely, it was a lot of fun!
