Douglas Adams1. The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
2. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
3. Mostly Harmless
4. The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul
5. So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish
6. Life, the Universe and Everything
7. Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
My favourite is Jodi Picoult, but I'm going to exclude two books (Songs of the Humpback Whale and Harvesting the Heart, which I have not read yet. It was very, very hard to rank them. It's such a fine line between most of them. Even those that are lowest on my list are probably 4 star books. 1. House Rules
2. Mercy
3. The Pact
4. The Storyteller
5. My Sister's Keeper
6. Handle with Care
7. Second Glance
8. Nineteen Minutes
9. Perfect Match
10. The Tenth Circle
11. Salem Falls
12. Leaving Time
13. Change of Heart
14. Plain Truth
15. Vanishing Acts
16. Lone Wolf
17. Sing You Home
18. Picture Perfect
19. Keeping Faith
My favorite author is Iris Johansen. There is no way I can rank them. There are 20 books just in the one series, and I read all of hers (after her romance phase). I have a bookcase dedicated to just her books. I will say that I have a favorite character- Eve Duncan. She is so much my favorite that my youngest has the middle name Eve- after her.
My favorite is Joe Hill, ranked:
Horns
Heart-Shaped Box
20th Century Ghosts
NOS4A2
In the Tall Grass
Wolverton Station
Throttle
He's written a ton more short stories but I'm slowly working my way through them. And he has a new novel coming out in May! :D

It's very difficult for me to choose my favorite author. I really love Robin Cook, Terry Brooks, Stephen King and Sue Grafton. Please don't ask me to rank all the books, that would be way to time consuming and I don't think i'd be able to, lol.
I am a big fan of Sir Terry Pratchett, but given the sheer volume of Discworld books, I will just pick my favorites and least favorites:Favorites:
Wyrd Sisters - Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg are a hoot.
Thud!
Going Postal
Jingo
Pyramids
Men at Arms
Night Watch
Least favorite is The Color of Magic, the first Discworld book. His writing is not there and the book is just a jumble of ideas rather than a story. I recommend not starting with this book if you want to get into Discworld.
Eric was also rather weak although still enjoyable.
I do not really have 1 favorite author but quite a number of top ones. Maybe I will just do more than one off and on here; Sounds fun. Kate Morton
1. The House at Riverton
2. The Secret Keeper
3. The Distant Hours
4. The Forgotten Garden
I am looking forward to a new book from her and only have one left to read: The Lake House

After I finished that book, I had an urge to start it from the very beginning!

Even those, I really enjoyed but I didn't find them on par with her others.

Why haven't I heard of this author before? I have to add one of his books to my TBR list. This thread is great, but my TBR list is getting longer and longer...

He's Stephen King's son and he's fantastic :)
The Fireman was just released. I'm reading it now so I can't give it a full review but I'm liking it so far. I would say if you're a fan of King then NOS4A2 is probably the safest bet. Heart-Shaped Box is a good horror story. I personally think he's more graphic than King but his writing is amazing.

Oh, I've heard about The Fireman, it's on my TBR list. I didn't realize it was the same author. Thanks Laura!
Joe Hill was on NPR a couple of weeks back. He said he has such an advantage over other authors. Both his parents are writers and his wife, too. They get together and read stuff they've written to get the others' opinions. So, it's all tightened up before it even goes to the publisher!http://www.npr.org/2016/05/22/4788409...
