LaurLa | 3908 comments I found it here on the Discussion thread:

Q: Say you own a property where you read 1 book to own and 2 if paying rent....
And you land on a property you already own...do you read 1 book as owner or do you have to read 2 as renter, even if it is your property?
A: when you own the property you're just visiting so you can read a book or not, it's up to you. But you can roll right away since you're not obligated to do anything.

OK - choosing to re-roll

Mediterranean Avenue - Favorites Shelf - Must read 1 book to own. Must read 2 books if the property is owned.

No one owns it at this stage - so only need to read one book.

Have picked The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon

Wait! Wait! I think what LaurLa and I meant to say was that just because you own it doesn't mean you don't have to pay rent. In fact, if you own it you have to pay double the rent.

Yeah. Yeah. That's what we meant to say. We certainly didn't mean to speed you on your way to one of the 4 unowned properties on the board! :)

I wouldn't worry too much - not a fast reader at all - will take a day or so to read this one and all you guys seem to knock back 10 books in a day.

Thanks for your help Laura - otherwise I'd still be 10 squares back!!!

Review: Contrary to many of the reviews, I preferred this book to the TV show. The TV show became to sensational too fast. I like it when I show can just explore the basic world for a bit before the characters have to deal with whatever big bad will consume them for the rest of the show. I felt like the book had that feel to it. And the character development was great! Although they are still all angsty teens. :)

Review: I didn't know what to expect going in to this. I've read vampire fiction, but not a lot of older vampire fiction. It was nice to see an evil creature treated as an evil creature. Although by the end I kind of liked Ysidro. I felt like he changed as a result of his interactions with James. And he learned what was possible from watching Anthony. I will definitely consider picking up the next in the series.

Review: This second book was much the same as the first. A quick, enjoyable, read, but not something I would pick up if not for a challenge that it fits. My biggest problem with these is that she's been a vampire for 6 years, and all of a sudden she's discovering powers/abilities. And her husband is only just now deciding she's a danger to the kids and he can't stand her. They probably should have been sent closer to her attack. That would have been more 'realistic'. :)

Review: I continue to the enjoy the Weather Warden books. But I really wish Jo could catch a break. Just get a little down time. Spend some time with her family. In comparison to a series like this, where things are happening one right after the other, I prefer something like the Dresden files, where time passes in between each book. Because in reality, people can only go for so long before they have a breakdown.

Review: What can I say about a Stephanie Plum novel. I'm not reading them for the quality of the story. Because they are, essentially, all the same. But the writing is easy, and the world is fun to visit for a time. I wouldn't want to live there. And Stephanie's relationships with Joe & Ranger crossed a line in the last book. And this book wasn't much better. She needs to pick one and stop two-timing!

Review:
Short and sweet - well not totally sweet. The MCs had some great chemistry. The book was less edgy than the blurb made it sound. The H was not nearly as cruel as I was expecting. I liked how the h stood up for herself and knew when to give in. He was controlling but she liked that most of the time and knew how to work around it when she needed to. It was fun to watch her come into her own as she gained confidence in herself and his feelings for her.

Review:
I love me some Highlanders and this didn't disappoint. I think the book was a little (or a lot) anachronistic but I couldn't help but still love the book. The female MCs were all just a little to independent and outspoken for the time period. But like I said, I couldn't help but love them because they were not shrinking violets and held their men in the palms of their hands. The overall story was good - the MCs had a chance to get to know each other and fall in love. My favorite kind of romance novel! I look forward to reading the next.

Review:
I like this series. It's not a 'I gotta read it now' but when I am reading it holds my attention and I find myself wanting to know more at the end. I like the slow build of the relationship between the MCs over the series. While they had an instant connection, they have still moved forward cautiously, maybe too cautiously, because I want to yell at the h to just jump all in, but it's still nice to watch them grow closer and closer. The mysteries are fun too ;-)

Review: I'm not quite sure how to describe this book. It's Dystopian, but not really Sci-Fi. It's about the end of the world, but it's about traveling actors & musicians. It isn't easily categorized, but it is wonderfully written. The story, and backstory, unfolds at a lovely pace. If it had been told in a straight line I don't think I would have like it. But I really enjoyed the gradual revealing of the character's relationships to each other.

Review: I know this was written in a different era, but I still can't believe that this is the first book in a series. I felt like I was thrown into the story and I was already supposed to know these characters. There was very little introduction. I did find the mystery intriguing, but I just couldn't get past the rushed style to enjoy it.

Review: This was unexpected. I picked it up solely for a title relay. It wasn't even on my TBR. And I seldom am willing to go outside of my TBR for those! But I'm glad I did here. And I wish I hadn't. The story was sad. The ending was happyish. And not wrapped up enough. I wanted to know what was going to happen. The narrator is 15+ years removed from the events of the book, so an epilogue update would have been nice! But it was easy to read, despite the subject matter.

Review: Wild West. Magic. Zombies. Vampires. What's not to love? Although I would really put this in the Bannon & Clare series. They are not in it, and it takes place on another continent. There is no way to place this in that world, time wise. But maybe the characters come into later books? That would be nice. I would love to see more of Gabe! :)

Review: Don’t be looking for lots of drama. Life wasn’t that bad – she went to jail – kept her nose clean, made lots of friends – she didn’t ‘suffer.’ She was describing what was going on around her but not from her feelings, but what she was seeing. Towards the end of the story she goes to a tough jail – but even there she remains an observer. Now this may well not be what happened – but I expected more grit. Maybe because she did keep her nose clean is why she had a less traumatic event – although being locked away from those you love would have been shocking.

Review: A huge saga that looks at the lives of two main families and their friends over a 4 month period. There was a large cast of characters that resulted in me having to write the names on a list.

A slow moving story - but never boring - covers a few different countries - a few dramas - and a huge secret revealed.

As per usual with a Pilcher novel every aspect of human lives - feuds, love, illness and friendship, was an easy read.
