Brittany (storyofmyreadinglife) | 43 comments Well Half Lost has destroyed me. So when I can crawl out of this ball of emotions I will be reading,
Asking For It by Louise O'Neill .

J. Bralick (jleighbralick) | 55 comments Reading Red Seas Under Red Skies and I really want to reread some Dostoevsky...which always helps me collect my thoughts about philosophical (and psychological!) themes in my own books. Other than that, I'm really trying to get as much written on ASLG before I start nursing school in May...O___O

You like Russian novels?

J. Bralick (jleighbralick) | 55 comments Karin wrote: "You like Russian novels?"

Oh, yes! Love them. Especially Dostoevsky, who is a god among insects. One of my favorite classes that I took in grad school was on the Russian novel. That's probably the reason the main characters' culture in the Madness Method books is inspired by late 1800's, early 1900's Russia. :-)

(Heh, I was studying politics in grad school, and when I wrote my term paper for the Russian Novel class, my professor, a wonderful old southern lady, told me she never gave A+'s on papers...and what was my discipline again? When I told her politics she laughed and said, "Well, I've certainly never given an A+ to a politics student before!" LOL That was one of my proudest moments, needless to say.;)

J. Bralick (jleighbralick) | 55 comments Heh, I just finished Dog Goner, which was super cute and funny. I loved the first book, Kibble Talk, too. They're MG books, but if you like dogs, you'd probably enjoy these! :-D

I've just stared a book from a dog's POV in a series my son likes, it's Thereby Hangs a Tail (A Chet and Bernie Mystery #2) by Spencer Quinn

J. Bralick (jleighbralick) | 55 comments Oh, that sounds pretty fun! Are you enjoying it?

Just read Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book, which is in all honesty the first Gaiman book I've read. I really loved it! I'll definitely be reading more of his books in the future.

Racheal (otherworldlyreader) | 143 comments Right now I'm about halfway through The Hidden Twin by Adi Rule. It's really good so far and has a steampunk feel to it.

Karin For y/a Greensleeves by Eloise Jarvis McGraw

message 13: by Racheal (new)

Racheal (otherworldlyreader) | 143 comments Finished The Hidden Twin and it was mediocre. It had the potential to be a really good book because of all the great ideas the author had going. Overall it needed just needed more depth/work in a lot of aspects.

I also read Through to You by Lauren Barnholdt which is a contemporary YA book... it was unimpressive. So hopefully I pick up a reaaaally good book next.

Trollhunters - really enjoyed this!!
How to Speak Dolphin - pretty good
Saint Anything - (have to admit - my first Dessen book) - really good
Boys in the Boat - ya edition - really good
The School for Good and Evil (#1) - not as good as I thought it would be :(

Now reading:
Stitching Snow
The Thing About Jellyfish

J. Bralick (jleighbralick) | 55 comments Read Blue Lily, Lily Blue while waiting for my car at the shop. LOL I think you're right, Kat...it was a bit disappointing. I enjoyed it more than TDT, but still, it was kind of a mess. I love Stiefvater's writing with a fiery passion but sometimes it reminds me of Johnny Depp when he's trying too hard to be Johnny Depp, you know? Like, he gets praised for being so quirky, eccentric, and bizarre, and so then he overdoes it. I feel like sometimes this happens with MS's (usually brilliant) metaphors and descriptions. Just...too much. Also, nothing really seemed to happen in this book, except we got to spend some time hanging out with characters we like, or hate, or whatever. Which, I love hanging out with those boys, but...yeah.

Reading The Orphan Queen next while still savoring Red Seas Under Red Skies.

I agree with your assessment. I love the characters and hanging out. And lol about the comparison with Jonny Depp XDD

LJ, first Dessen book? :O :O Go with Just Listen next. Still to this day my favourite of hers.

So, haven't forgotten about you guys. I'm just lazy and Netflix. But I haven been reading, of course. Most recently I binged The Winner's Trilogy. Overall the series is a 4* for me.
For those wondering, I'd say The Winner's Kiss is my least favourite of the trilogy. I did really like it. But... I found it to long. I've had a problem with pacing throughout all the books, and this was no different. I can't say much without spoiling anything, but Kestral's character arc was disappointing. I felt like Rutkoski introduced a new problem/obstacle because she didn't know how to wrap up what she'd already started in the previous books. That's kind of vague, but when you guys read it I would love to discuss!

I have too many books on the go. Right now I've actively reading The Last Boy and Girl in the World by Siobhan Vivian .
But I'm also reading a story from Summer Days & Summer Nights Twelve Love Stories by Stephanie Perkins every few days. And than on audio I'm starting Dreams of Gods & Monsters (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #3) by Laini Taylor .

Rummanah (Books in the Spotlight) (rummanahbooksinthespotlight) | 22 comments I also haven't forgotten our group. The school year is over in about 4-5 weeks and everything is just crazy. So far I've managed to finish The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge, The Visitor by Amanda Stevens, and I finally started Winter by Marissa Meyer this morning. Got only up to Chapter 4. Hope to find some time this weekend to finish it or at least halfway in the book.

Brittany (storyofmyreadinglife) | 43 comments Still reading all the above ^^. They've all just been pushed to the side because I have The Raven King in my hands. Sooooo lets see how fast I can devour it today.
The Raven King (The Raven Cycle, #4) by Maggie Stiefvater

Will do! I'm trying to read a bit each night. So far I'm halfway done with Book 2. I hope to get it finished by this weekend.
