April 2016 Challenge - Giving Tribute

I would pick the letter L because he was a character in Lord of the Rings. Lord would be my word.
Books I could read:
The Lord of the Rings
Day of Infamy by Walter Lord

Very unique challenge, Janice. Thank you! I will have to think on this one for a while. Hmmm .....

To be honest, I was scrambling for an idea for April. Last night, I decided to review the suggestions that members put forward, hoping for inspiration.
Sarah, and a couple others were talking about doing a challenge around tributes. My friend's sister passed away yesterday from a long battle with cancer, so this one really appealed to me. I just had to twist it up a bit. :)
Obviously, my friend's sister will likely be the one I pay tribute to next month.

Sorry to hear about your friend's sister Janice.
Janice, I am so sorry about your friend's sister, especially for all that she must have gone through.

To be honest, I ..."
So sorry to hear about your friend's sister Janice. What a great way to honor her with the YLTO challenge for April.

My letter will be L because he was a librarian, and I'm going with the word Library. Probably will be a setting....
Katie says she is picking the word Reading because I love to read (she's got that right). Actually now she's changing it to Animal which she knows I love

Beth & Katie - You don't need to make a wall of fame. The mods will take care of that after you earn your first badge. :)

So now we know why you love books. You inherited the gene. It looks like your daughter did too.
My dad's birthday is in April too.

Yesterday, March 25th was Read JRR Tolkien Day, which made me think about all of the pleasure I have received from the author's imaginative books and the movie versions of the stories. Coincidentally, the theme for Tolkien Reading Day 2016, was life, death and immortality.
JRR Tolkien was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa. I am going to read, Out of Africa.

The book I have chosen is Inspirations: Poems, Commentaries, and Short Stories by Christopher J. Thomasson.
Completed 4/29/2016

De Mattos was also a Librarian. He was actually the Director of the National Library of Uruguay in Montevideo (capital city of Uruguay). I'll read a book from the digital library of the National Library of Uruguay (http://www.edu.mec.gub.uy/biblioteca_...). I haven't decided which one yet.

She went on a holiday to a tropical island recently, so island is my word. I will read a book either with island in the title or set on an island.

Sorry to hear about your sister, Peggy. I sympathise, I also have a long term chronic illness which causes me a lot of pain and trouble and is also largely invisible from the outside so I completely understand what she is going through. It's great that she is so positive and optimistic, it's the best way to be.

I was thinking around the same lines for my tribute. I am honoring my father, who passed away several years ago. He was my hero. I have a bunch of words I can relate and I'm having some trouble deciding. I was thinking about "pets" because he loved animals and always had pets. Many of his pets were birds (he loved birds) so I was thinking of reading To Kill a Mockingbird. I wasn't sure if that was too loosely linked, since my word is pet and that specific word isn't in the title... You did tell us to be creative with how our word is represented, Janice. ;)
I do have some other ideas, if that doesn't work and other people's ideas are giving me even more ideas. lol

..."
I think it works. David Bowie = Idol = Firefighters in which the heroes are idols. It is a bit tenuous, but I'll accept it.

He passed away last month.
A - Alan Rickman was an actor.
One of my favorite movies is Sense and Sensibility, in which Rickman played Col. Brandon. I will read Colonel Brandon's Diary.

Anyway I'm in. the person I'll like to honor is Emmeline Pankhurst. She's my role model and I think she was really courageous.
Anyway there's a lot of letters which could represent her, for example she was an Activist. But I'm not sure this word is in the book I'm planning to read.
That's why I'll go with her surname Pankhurst because she wrote a book I want to read.

GoodReads only has listed his books in Spanish, Katie. Is my guess that his books, if translated to English, will probably be difficult to find.
Are you looking for authors who are librarians too? We could help you here.

Those artists were all big favourites of myself, my sis and my mom.
And one moment I thought - I will pay tribute to all American great artists whose music was to us finally also freely available after the dissolution of the Soviet Union (my country (Estonia) gained it's independence in 1991)!
1. Since this challenge requires one person, I will pay tribute to Michael Jackson - his songs and especially the words in those songs have affected me in my teenage years the most (Earth Song, Heal The World, They Don't Care About Us, sigh...).
2. Michael Jackson was American "King of Pop".
3. I think I'm gonna go with title this time (not using my creativity much here, lol): American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis.
PS! This is great challenge, Janice - gives also chance to know so much more about our group members! :)

Thank you so much for sharing this! :)
And wow... I'm speechless. Yeah, many of us (Estonians) escaped to USA in those difficult times. And those who couldn't had to live behind the Iron Curtain.
What a coincidence indeed - it's just that there are so few of us compared to the other nations and you happen to meet one!
It's also so heart-warming to hear that in this challenge you try to find connection with Estonia! Thank you!
Sigh... I am just truly speechless :)

I will read a story of an immigrant, still not sure what book it will be.

Step One - Name a person to whom you would like to pay tribute. That person may be living or dead, and may be a celebrity, a person of note, a historical figure, or someone in your life.
Step Two - Pick a word that starts with one of the letters A-P-R-I-L that represents that person in some way. Examples:
A - Picasso was an Artist.
P - Jim Morrison is buried in Paris.
R - Wolfman Jack was a Radio personality.
I - Indira Ghandi's first name was Indira.
L - Christoper Lee acted in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
Step Three - Use your creativity and decide how your chosen word will be represented in the book that you choose. It could be in the title (sub-titles excluded), the author's name, a theme of the book, set in the location, an occupation, a character. It could even be that person's favourite genre!
When you report the completion of your book in the reporting thread, you will need to explain your process as to how you arrived at your book choice.
There will be no scoring for this challenge.
General Rules:
