Greta wrote: "Yea!! Here we go :-) does someone want to track who owns all the spaces??"I'll be using my reserved spots for that tomorrow, Greta :D I have lots of downtime at work, so it gives me something to do
Let the Monopoly Hunger Games begin! May the books be ever in your favor. But seriously, I rolled 8 (5+3), so that lands me on Vermont Avenue - Wishlist Shelf - Must read 1 book to own. Must read 2 books if the property is owned. Off to wander through the list til I find the perfect book.
Alrighty off to a good start!Roll 1: 6+5=11
Staring Spot: Go
Ending Spot: St Charles Place.
Qualification: Need to read a book from the Ebook shelf. Does that mean I need to actually read an ebook? :p
Maya we have a competition! Who can read the book first, otherwise the other person has to read two books, right?
I'm going to create a spreadsheet for us all, so that if people do end up getting lucky with books, they can read more books a week, or if they don't manage to get a roll read each week, they can keep track. Just to make sure everyone's reading the same amount of books. Because I know that some challenges are harder than others.

Maddison wrote: "We going to have a Tracking Post, so we know who's where and who's owned what?"Maya said she will track :-)

LoL! Yes. If anything, I have one that I've been meaning to reread anyway.
Tentatively reading
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...Everyone can just go into it, and it saves automatically, I believe. I've updated what I know, so far, so hopefully it contains all the useful information. Let me know if I've missed anything, or if you can't access it.
Gah, I got wrapped up in some stuff and missed our thread getting set up. Well, I mean, I'm here now but it would have been exciting to join in the discussion 4 hours ago, lol. Let me make my first roll...Roll #1: 4+1=5: Reading Railroad
For Reading Railroad – Read whatever you want. (YES! How easy for my first roll!)
If a player lands on an “owned” railroad, the owner will recommend a book for that specific railroad.
Also, Maddison, I can view the spreadsheet.
ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) wrote: "Gah, I got wrapped up in some stuff and missed our thread getting set up. Well, I mean, I'm here now but it would have been exciting to join in the discussion 4 hours ago, lol. Let me make my first..."Lucky roll :)
I assume you can own a railroad once you finish your book, just like you own it when you buy it in the game.I don't see any kind of edit option at all. That link I was sent to doesn't look like a regular spreadsheet to me.
There is a way to get the link to the editable spreadsheet if you allow anyone who has access to edit. I forget how you do it...just look at all the options until you see one that says something about sharing it or whatever.
I'm going to try and read
for mine (it was on page 61, and I desperately need a Y book for Trea's Mario challenge), but I make no promises. As for the spreadsheet, I'm just getting a published website-looking thing, with zero editing options.
Yays! You fixed the thing! (that's me speak for "it works now" because it's 5am and I may be a teeny bit loopy...)
COMPLETION POST!Book read: A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle
Found on: Shelved by 34 people on the e-book shelf!
I now own St. Charles Place!
(Sorry Maddison!)
Starting Spot: St. Charles Place
Roll: 1+6=7
Ending Spot: Tennessee Avenue
*Read 1 book from the 2012 shelf!
Wow, great job getting your book read, Maya :-)Are we still rolling once per week approximately? Just making sure :D
Greta wrote: "Wow, great job getting your book read, Maya :-)Are we still rolling once per week approximately? Just making sure :D"
I'm still doing once a week! I'm gonna roll on Fridays, so I can just lump everything I do on Fridays. I was just about to start that one when I rolled, sooooo I figured I might as well start with a clean slate. :D

Roll Dice
Monopoly Rules
• You do not need to wait for the other player to finish reading before you take your next turn. As soon as you're done reading, go ahead and roll.
• Each property is represented by a shelf. For each grouping of shelves/properties you would read a certain amount of books from that shelf. Once you finish the amount of books you would then “Own” that shelf.
• If you land on an “owned” shelf you would have to read a certain amount of books above what the owner had to read.
• If one person “owns” all of the books in a group (think Mediterranean and Baltic) and another player lands on their properties they would be able to recommend at least one of the books that the player has to read.
• Utilities – For the Electric Company – Read a book where the characters have electric chemistry. For Water Works – Read a book that makes you cry. Books have to be 150 pages or more.
• If a player lands on an “Owned” utility, then the owner will recommend a book with electric chemistry or that makes them cry.
• Railroads – For Reading Railroad – Read whatever you want. For Pennsylvania Railroad – Read a book set in Pennsylvania. For B&O Railroad – Read a book that someone else thought stunk. For Short Line – Read a novella. Page minimum 150 for all but Short Line. 25 page minimum for the novella.
• If a player lands on an “owned” railroad, the owner will recommend a book for that specific railroad.
• Chance and Community Chest – there are 12 cards for each. If a player lands on one of those spots they will roll the dice a second time and then would “pull” the corresponding card and do whatever it says on the card. Once a card is used, it will be out of play unless needed to finish the game. Books for this would need to be at least 150 pages.
• Being in Jail – To get out of jail you would need to have one of the get out of jail free cards, roll doubles on one of your next three turns or read a book where a character is arrested or has been in jail. Books for this would need to be 150 pages or more.
• Just Visiting – Read a novella of your choice, 50 page minimum
• Free Parking – Read any book 100 pages or more
• Go – Read any book of 200 pages or more
• Luxury Tax/Income Tax – Read a book with a rich character, a really poor character or someone that works in a bank. 150 pages or more
• Each roll, you'll post your starting spot, the roll and your new spot on the board.
• When you finish your book you'll post the spot your on, book name, rating, when it was finished and a short review of the book. If you were supposed to read a book that had a specific element (water works utility, book that made you cry), then please mention that in the review.
• Re-reads are allowed.
