Book: Hunting Ground
Date Finished: 4/12
Rating: 4 stars
Review:
This one started off incredibly slow for me. I also realize that not a lot of time since the prequel and beginning of this series has passed, only about a month so this book is as much about Anna and Charles still learning one another as mates as the actual plot of this individual book which is a lot of werewolf politics. There aren't very many ghosts found in this book. Some references to spirits but I'm grateful is was on the list because I don't usually like ghost or witch stories. They are some of my least favorite PNR characters though I have a few standouts in other series. I digress...
The story picked up around page 100 which is a third of the way through the book. I can't even remember what was happening during the first third however once we started getting into negotiations, mysterious kidnapping attempts, a lot werewolf politics, and a few murders I perked up lol.
Overall it was a good book and I give it a 3.5 rounding to 4 because it's Patricia Briggs.

So it's pretty good? I've had it on my watch list forever but haven't started it yet. I've been binge watching The 100 and a throwback: Alias since i never watched when it was on TV, I was in high school and then college...way too much partying in college for TV lol

Diane ~Firefly~ wrote: "I like it so far. There is a good mix of long and short term story lines. It is definitely a CW show though."
Hahaha I know what you mean when you say "CW" show... let me guess really attractive "teenagers" who in reality are in their early twenties, questionable acting skills, and lots of angst and drama lol
I'm enjoying Alias. I like the way the episodes are set up with being a little cliffy at the end but then resolved in the first half of the next episode. I can imagine this would be hell to watch real time because I would have to wait at least a week to see how the plot resolves itself but I like watching on Netflix! It reminds me just a little of the days of La Femme Nikita which I watched as a kid. I used to LOVE that show.

Stacie I'm really curious about that series! I feel like a lot of people have read it and enjoyed it but I tend to hate YA. The YA I enjoy is usually YA age characters who deal with adult issues like Hunger Games or Blood of Eden series.

ETA: Nvm, found one!"
Glad you found one, but curious what does MF stand for?

Final Thoughts:
I loved this. It has a lot of my favorite things. Secret love, scarred MC, jealous MCs, shifters. I loved that Quade loved Roman despite his appearance. It helped that he knew Roman prior to the accident that ruined his face but I think Quade would have fallen for him regardless. I loved that Roman knew Quade was a shifter for years and it never mattered to him so it wasn't a big deal when the "secret" was finally revealed. And to find out that (view spoiler) . I look forward to book 2.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Review:
I REALLY enjoyed this book. I love that in a historical romance we have: by-blows as the leads, the heroine is curvy in a plump way, the hero wears glasses and was raised in a working class family and there are so many elements of justice in this novel: voting enfranchisement, women's rights, medical ethics and health justice, racial equality and justice. It's like historical romance for social justice activists. I had a great time reading this book. I loved this couple, both together and as individuals. I love that the heroine didn't accept the hero just on his terms, I love that they had to break up, had to be miserable without one another, I love that he fought himself over and over until finally he couldn't deny what he always knew. Courtney Milan always has so many great, superbly written points of dialogue as well as plot. Another strong addition to this series.

Good Job!! :D

review: I didn't feel Cara was a strong heroine, I thought her 4 year old daughter and sister fit that bill better. I really didn't like the hero, he was a jerk to Cara and used sex to control her. I did enjoy all the supporting character though, so I'll probably check out the next in the series eventually.

Did you read the next one? Was it better? I've enjoyed the first two books in her Sin Brothers series, so I feel I should give this one another chance.

Penryn is the kind of kick ass heroine I wish we saw more in YA books. She wasn't afraid to take on anyone and all in the name of family. I was not sure what to expect from this book but I'm so glad I borrowed it from Kindle Unlimited. Looking forward to seeing how it all comes together in the next one and what happens with the low demons (I might have nightmares).

Shelf announcements will be one hour earlier for at least the next 2 weeks, starting this week.
If I can get out of Jury Duty in May, they will continue at the new time. If Judith has to do the announcements during May they will probably go back an hour.
We'll let you know of any changes, as we find out.
