R13: Team #14 ~ Well Read Chicks
That works if you know what book you want to read. Otherwise the popular lists give inspiration and some surprising choices :D
That is correct. I used the popular lists mainly because I sometimes forget which books are about a certain species.
Shelf: Aliens

4 stars
Shapeshifters, an alien race from another planet, try to settle here on earth. They've fled their previous planet because of hostilities with the natives. The shifters have an ability to take on the appearance of any human- dead or alive- using that human's DNA. Most are peaceful and just want to live their live.
XCEL is like the FBI/CIA dedicated to hunting down shifters. Most people aren't able to tell shifters from humans, except a handful of people who have the ability to see shadows around shifters and thus identify them. Griffen is one such individual. The previous book's main female protagonist could as well. What they have in common is Native American ancestry. Griffen was betrayed by his shifter partner and thus hates all shifters.
Cam is a shifter who ends up "helping" XCEL hunt down shifters that are arsonists. However, things aren't what they seem. Cam and Griffen start out as enemies and, because this is a romance and we want a HEA, they fall for each other. About halfway through the book Griffen started to see Cam not as an enemy, but as someone who could be more.
Overall, I enjoyed this and this entertained me. Cam was a favorite character. She is honest, direct, and asked very pointed questions. I liked how she called Griffen out on his bullshit. I liked Sani and would have liked to see more of him.

.Not for the faint of heart this book!

Reviews: this was a funny, easy quick read. Olivia (Liv) has been having strange dreams for the last six months of the same man. That man is Baird, a Rager Kindred (alien). The dreams mean that their minds have aligned and he's found his perfect mate. Olivia doesn't agree. Loved Baird - Liv not so much - she got on my nerves. She pulled her head out of her ass in the end though. I liked Sylvan, Baird's half brother. Sophia, Liv's sister, annoying but I loved their friend Kat. Anyway second book is Sylvan's and he's gonna have his hands full with Sophia.
I Think maybe you wrote down 2 titles you were considering. I'll add the books to the post later, when I'm by my computer.

Review: Tons of action in this book. Storylines get forwarded. Jane kept in the dark again and is unsure what is attacking her. Soul appears and we find out what she is - cool. Jane and Bruiser get together - woohoo - totally happy girl and then Bruiser ruined it by opening his mouth and said something entirely stupid. No sign of Rick in this one - we just get to hear Jane say how she is not missing him....but we hear it all the time. Anyway - loved it - looking forward to next one when the Eurovamps hit New Orleans.

4*
This is the weakest book in the series when you consider the couple. I didn't buy into Elizabeth and Niall's romance. It was the constant chase, kidnapping, and deception. And a convenient pairing of someone who has LOTS of sexual experience with a virgin. Barf. A big no thanks. So why four stars? Well, everything else. The underlying story-line of all the pieces of the bosca fadbh being in one spot and unlocking a certain book. I was happy to find out just who was helping the Pheandir from the inside. And it is someone BIG (and who I didn't like). Overall, I was very happy with the conclusion.
Awesome that you're both finished with both books. I haven't had much time to read these past days because of my mother's and sisters' birthdays have been celebrated. I have no real plans today, so maybe I'll have time to get a chunk into one of them :)
Thanks Anita - lots of car time to read over the last few days. We've made it to DC - yeah! Happy Easter everyone!
Great job ladies! I'm almost done with my Free Space book and should get started on Aliens soon. Not sure what I'll read for Aliens. I have so many books that fit! And I just realized that Sweep in Peace is in there too so I might listen to that.

Review: If you have a trigger, I can safely say this book had them all. I don't know that I've read such a dark fantasy story. It took a while to get the hang of everything - thankfully, I had the ebook too so could follow along - but once I did, I was engrossed. If only I had the next book in the series already!!!
Glad you liked it D.G. I also have that series on my TBR, so good to know it's a good series as well.
Anita wrote: "Glad you liked it D.G. I also have that series on my TBR, so good to know it's a good series as well."I liked it but there's a lot of REALLY tough subjects. In my review, I talk a bit more about it, if you want to find out: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Ok... Well, when you're in the right frame of mind, tough subject in books can sometimes make them better. I'll go and read your review.Anyway. Really close to finishing my freespace book. Will probably finish it in a couple of hours, and then write the review.
Anita wrote: "Ok... Well, when you're in the right frame of mind, tough subject in books can sometimes make them better. I'll go and read your review."That's the spirit! I don't usually stay from tough subjects but I've discovered that some people in GR are really sensitive to those things so I've learned to warn just in case. :)

Review.
I had a hard time deciding between 4.5 and 5 stars for this one, but ended up (because I'm feeling generous and I really enjoyed the book) giving it 5 stars.
This book starts off pretty soon after what happens in the first book. This story follows Hunter and Aylin. Hunter is leader of the MoonBound Clan and Aylin is the second born twin of the ShadowSpawn clan leader.
Before this book Hunter made the decision to accept Aylin's twin Rasha as his mate in order to bring peace and alliances between the two clans. This is not something he really wants, but something he feels like he has to do in order to save his clan.
Aylin has always been treated horribly, being the second born twin she was supposed to have died at birth. What's even worse is that she's also crippled and has a bended leg which make her out as weak, and no one really wants anything to do with her. Rasha (her twin) is the complete opposite of Aylin. She's been brought up to fight, to lead like her father and has gotten anything she looked at.
The love story between Hunter and Aylin sparks pretty fast, at first Hunter mistook her for Rasha, but that was all a misunderstanding. Then later in the book Hunter and Aylin goes out on a trial in order to make sure that Hunter won't have to let go of his first born child.
When things heats up between them it's time for Hunter to make a decision. Will he keep his promise to ShadowSpawn and mate with Rasha, or will he defy them and declare war, by taking on Aylin as his mate?
I know you all talk about how much better her Demonica series is, I've so far only read book one in that series which I also liked, so I can't say anything else that I really enjoyed this book. It was better than the first one, as I really liked the love story and Aylin was an amazing character to follow. I loved to see how she sort of grew as a character as soon as she stepped foot into the MoonBound territory. I also always love a good vampire story, and yay, this book has it. I'm really looking forward to when the next installment in this series will come out. Sorry for the abnormal long review.

Good Job!! :D
I only just started on my Aliens book. I thought the edition I had access to was an ebook so I was waiting for me to finish the freespace book, but then yesterday when I wanted to start I noticed it was an audio instead.
I'll try and have mine finished by tomorrow.
Hmmm...the book I want to read probably has ghosts...now to find out if somebody shelved it as such!
I had to check 15 pages in the book's top shelves...but ONE person shelved it as ghosts, LOL!I'll be listening to
. Not a surprise as I've been dying to continue the series. :)
Sigh...the audio is 19 hrs....I have it 1.25x speed but it will still take a few days longer than usual.Well, at least this second shelf makes 2-in a row with Free Space so I won't feel guilty about finishing it before Aliens. :)
I had completely forgotten it was shelf announcement day yesterday? I'm muddling up the days. I think it's because Monday was also a Holiday in Denmark, so yesterday felt like a Tuesday to me.I'll be going for Charley Davidson Second Grave on the Left, which has been shelved ghost 264 times.

I stayed up half the night listening to my book...at this pace, I'll probably finish it before the weekend. :)
I'm about half-way through my Aliens book, and will start the audio of Charley Davidson as soon as I finish this audio.
Hey guys - totally forgot about whelf call yesterday. We had var troubkr on iur way home yesterday. Waiting for car to be fixed. Hopefully it will be fixed today and we can get back on the road. I will figure out a ghost book later when i have time to peek at the ghost link
Shelf #2: Ghosts
Date finished/Rating: 4/2 ★★★★
Review: Good sequel and thank the Darkness not as violent. There was heartbreak of course: the poor unicorns and Daemon in the Twisted Kingdom. :( Most of the book was told from Saetan perspective (I got a kick of all those kids calling him uncle! hahaha!) and was finally glad to get to know Lucivar better. There were a few plot points that didn't seem to make sense: what happened with Lucivar's ring of obedience? (It was so difficult for Daemon to get rid of his.) Why did Titian didn't tell Saetan what she had discovered about Greer?
This series has 9 books but it seems the first 3 books were sold as a trilogy. I hope this plot arc will close in book #3 because I can't take all this suspense anymore!
I'm glad you're still enjoying the series. Also that it's not as violent as the first one. It's always so hard waiting for the answers to all the questions a book can give you.
I'm dying to read #3 but it's 18 hours long and I need to finish my Aliens book and make some progress in other series. :)

Review.
This book follows Janelle Tenner, who has a bipolar mother and a father who works long hours for the FBI. So that leaves her with too much responsibility as she has to do the parenting of her brother. One day on her way to the car, she's run down by a car. She also knows that she died, but someone brought her back to life - Ben Michaels a mysterious loner from her high school. She wants to find out what happens, and when she suddenly starts seeing some sort of countdown in her dad's office, she starts looking into that, and finds that it's a countdown to the Earth's destruction. Therefore she decides to do everything she can from stopping that from happening. As the book goes on she gets sucked into a world she didn't know, and also builds a relationship with Ben.
Ok, so I thought the books started out pretty well, quite action-packed. I also enjoyed the last part of the book OK. However, I didn't really connect with the story or the characters. I don't know why, maybe it was the narrator of the audio I was listening too. She wasn't very good. Overall an OK book, but I don't think I'll be reading the sequel to this book.
I want to thank the 2 people who shelved this book as ghosts!!Ghosts Shelf call I will be listening to:
by Elisabeth Naughton 402 pgs
Sigh...I switched my aliens book to
because I wasn't feeling my original book but "Redshirts" doesn't work in audio (too many "he said, she said"). Then I started a non-aliens book and now I'm stuck with a different series!I used to like taking time in between series but now I'm more the type where I read books in a series back to back. Once I finish the book I'm listening, I'll see if I can pick up my aliens book again.
Haha Redshirts .... you only have to mention, here at home, some character is a redshirt to know exactly what's going to happen to them. LOL
I've recently heard very good things about John Scalzi as a writer, so maybe you're in for a great read?Do you always listen to audios? :)
I mix mine up. I'm always working on at least one audio and one eBook. Sometimes I'm also working on a paperback/hardback.

Historically in this game, we've always been able to check books using the book's Top Shelves, which is a lot easier than going to the Popular Shelf itself and going page by page.
