Woohoo! It's hard enough coming up with recommendations for specific categories, but to get lucky enough to find a cover with a bit of orange on it, it's my kinda day! Thanks. :)

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments Yesterday I finished reading Raid (Unfinished Hero, #3) by Kristen Ashley and I'm hoping to finish Bend Me (Absolution, #1) by Sophia Scarlet tonight and then work my way to reading Tyrant (King, #2) by T.M. Frazier and Ink and Bone (The Great Library, #1) by Rachel Caine then find a book with a criminal in it :)

Karsyn (imzadi) Just a FYI for Day 3 ~

My Hubby is going into work later than usual, and I've been sleeping crappy, so if I can, I may go back to sleep in the morning. I might not be up to post at 7-8 my time (like I have been). Plus, with the time change. UGH!

So you may not see me til 9-10am EST. We'll see. I may sleep like crap again and just be up early. Whenever it is, see y'all then, we're headed to bed. :D I'll catch up on stuffs then too.

Molly (mollyrotondo) | 135 comments @JessicaAnn - Across the Universe sounds really interesting. I haven't read a lot of YA lately so I am out of touch with which YA books are out there. I added this to the list of books I need to get that I keep in the Notes App on my phone.

@Samantha - Is Dead Poets Society anything like the movie? I have never read the book, but the movie is great. I should really check out this one.

@Stephanie (R-A) - What other Neil Gaiman books have you read? One of my best friends LOVES him. All the books I've read by him I borrowed from her lol I never read Stardust though. I know she loved the book but didn't like the movie.

@Lucy - Have you started Golden Son yet? I loved Red Rising. I thought it was very different from the Hunger Games. I haven't read the Golden Son yet though. I am very bad with keeping up with trilogies and series. I read the first book and then pick up the second years later lol. I don't want to wait too much longer though to read this one.

@Daphne - The Castle seems soooo interesting! The feeling the synopsis gives reminds me of an old film noir that I can't remember the name of (uhhh!). I am writing this one down.

Jessica Ann (jeskalillis) | -5 comments @Corinne - I am a bit hesitant to read Red Queen. I have seen lots of good reviews and that is why I picked it up. But I also keep reading the bad reviews and that is keeping me from actually opening it. I think it is mostly because it seems similar to Red Risingg, which I liked, but I don't know how I will feel if it is basically the same thing. But I will probably read it since I am still curious to know what I will think about the book.

@Lauri - How is An Ember in the Ashes? I have read mixed reviews on that one. I want to read it, but I am also hesitant.

I also, haven't read any Nora Roberts books, probably because most look like chick-lit. But I may have to look more into her books.

@Stephanie - you have a lot of books on your to read list, that I would also like to read, but haven't yet. I think the reason for that is due to the fact that they are "classics". I seem to be hesitant to start reading classic books, especially long ones.

@Molly - Across the Universe is definitely interesting. I read most of it in one day. I really like the idea behind the story. I may have to check out The Last Days of Magic for this month.

I went to the library to drop some books off and ended up picking up some more! But I doubt I will get to them for the read a thon. I also purchased some books from there. I don't know about other libraries, but at mine they sell used/donated paperbacks for 0.50 and hardbacks for 1.00. I really shouldn't be buying, but sometimes I can't help myself!

I don't really plan that well on what book I want to read for read-a-thons, but I tend to have a list of books I would like to get to. The books I actually read sometimes ends up being different.

Samantha (missymaysreadingnook) | 808 comments Ok, I'm going to do this a piece at a time. I'm a little late in the game for today, so there's a lot of posts to get through!

I've recently read:
Red Queen Red Queen (Red Queen, #1) by Victoria Aveyard , Dead Poets Society Dead Poets Society by N.H. Kleinbaum , The Crucible The Crucible by Arthur Miller , and The Old Man and the Sea The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway

I'm currently reading:
Ink and Bone Ink and Bone (The Great Library, #1) by Rachel Caine
The Last Lecture The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

I'm planning on reading:
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter, #2) by J.K. Rowling
Dubliners James Joyce's Dubliners by James Joyce (the cover is the actual version I have from the library. It's got a bunch of pictures and annotated notes to it, so it's going to be interesting to read)
Ender's Game Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Something Wicked This Way Comes Something Wicked This Way Comes (Green Town, #2) by Ray Bradbury

...and more for the LRPG DX

Corinne | 86 comments JessicaAnn,

Victoria Aveyard actually had an AMA on Reddit, where somebody asked her why her book was so similar to Red Rising.

This was her response:

"Haven't read Red Rising yet, but it's on my shelf and I'm excited to read! I have indeed seen the fracas, but rest assured, my first draft of RQ was finished before RR came out. So maybe something was just in the ether in 2012?"

I've recently read:

Samantha, Something Wicked This Way Comes is a great story! I read it around Halloween last year since it takes at Halloween. I loved it. Have you read Dandelion Wine? It is supposed to be the prequel to Something Wicked. That is an interesting story as well.

message 61: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (missymaysreadingnook) | 808 comments @JoLene - Did you like The Cuckoo's Calling? I tried reading The Casual Vacancy and had a really hard time with it because it was too real.

@Stephanie (R-A) - I was just at Barnes & Noble today (staring at an autographed copy of A Darker Shade of Magic with drool coming out of the corner of my mouth) and saw Uprooted. It looks interesting but I'm not too sure about it. If you get around to it, I'd be interested in what you had to say about it!

That is good to know thanks!!

@Samantha - When I went to my library I found Something Wicked This Way Comes in there "for sale" shelves and picked it up. I have read Ender's Game and enjoyed it, I haven't read any more from that series though.

message 63: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (missymaysreadingnook) | 808 comments @Molly - I actually haven't seen the movie so I have no idea if it's like the movie, although knowing that Robin Williams is in it (probably as the teacher) I can imagine that it is like the movie. It was a REALLY good read and is definitely worth the time. It's only 127 pages long, so you'll finish it in a day, easy.

I'm glad to hear that Something Wicked This Way Comes is good. It's one of the books that I own that I kept, hoping it would be good. I'm excited to dive into it in a few days. I haven't heard of Dandelion Wine, but I'm definitely going to check it out now!

@JessicaAnn - I've heard that Ender's Game is good and it'll fill my E for the orange quest, which is why I picked it up. The hardcover is thicker than I thought it would be so it is a little daunting when I have so many books to get through. You'll have to let me know if you enjoy Something Wicked This Way Comes :)

Jo-Jo | 686 comments I read River Boy by Tim Bowler and The Lost Heiress (Relic Master, #2) by Catherine Fisher so far for the read-a-thon.

Nora Roberts is one of my favorite authors, too. A couple of her books are in the little stack I read whenever I am sunk deep in depression and need to be rescued.

The two books in my "rescue stack" are A Little Fate and A Little Magic.

Another of my favorites is Northern Lights.

And a very recent book of hers that I absolutely love (it was released in December, I think, and I've already read it twice) is Stars of Fortune.

:-)

Goodness, yes! I'm a huge fan of the Longmire Mysteries and Johnson is my favorite author! I read quite of few of the books in a group series read last year, but somehow I missed this one. I can't wait for The Highwayman: A Longmire Story to come out in May!

Hahah! I can relate! I don't know how many books I have recently added to my TBR again because people keep mentioning books I have never heard of and think they look shiny and need to be on my shelf.

So glad I'm not the only one doing this!

@Karsyn - trying to take part in the BOM for both Goldfinch and Ink and Bone. Suspect Goldfinch will take me a month to finish listening to and Ink and Bone might be finished tomorrow - I'm not good at sticking to a schedule!

I'm very much a fly-by reader. Am trying to complete a series challenge in another group which is targeting my reading more than normal

@Karsyn: I love that you recommended The Crucifix Killer! I always get totally excited when I see someone else who has read and loved those books! :-D I still have to read An Evil Mind and I need to somehow get my hands on I Am Death but somehow his books aren't as readily available anymore as they used to be. Looking forward to book #6 though, it's sitting on my shelf on my "read soon" pile :-)

@Corinne: I'll be curious to hear what you think of Casino Royale. I read it a few months ago and constantly had the movie playing in my mind's eye. The book isn't quite the same but I actually found it to be an enjoyable read. Are you planning on continuing with the other books after this first one?
And btw, you're not alone! I've never read a Nora Roberts book either! No J.D. Robb either hehe. And I forgot what the other penname of hers was.

@Jex: *squeee* Kate Daniels! Are you enjoying the series? I love the characters in those books and #7 is really good, so you have something to look forward to :-) I actually still haven't read book #8 (paperback edition was late in coming out) but I'll order it soon. I'm itching to read it, I've heard so many good things about it!

I'm currently reading:
Spirit Legacy (The Gateway Trilogy, #1) by E.E. Holmes Small Favor (The Dresden Files, #10) by Jim Butcher and like a lot of you: Ink and Bone (The Great Library, #1) by Rachel Caine

What I'm planning to read next:
Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels, #5.5) by Ilona Andrews
Other than that... I'm not sure yet. I'm hoping to finally read The Assassin's Blade (Throne of Glass, #0.1-0.5) by Sarah J. Maas .

I do have to finish Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen this month as well for a classics challenge I'm participating in. And I may just finally get over myself and finish Das Parfum Die Geschichte eines Mörders by Patrick Süskind , which has been sitting unfinished on my shelf for a couple of years now.

@Becky: Push A Court of Thorns and Roses to the front of your next-up list - it's so good!! :-) A little difficult to get into at first because the main character is a little special in some ways, but it's a very good read.
Besides, the next one in the series is coming out in May :-))

Karsyn (imzadi) JessicaAnn wrote: "@Corinne - I am a bit hesitant to read Red Queen. I have seen lots of good reviews and that is why I picked it up. But I also keep reading the bad reviews and that is keeping me fro..."

I hope you will give Nora a try, JessicaAnn. I don't read chick-lit, at all. None of those shopping crap for me! :) But I don't mind romance occasionally and Nora does it really really well. Most (not all) her stuff is romantic suspense, so that's something I really enough. It's got substance, it's not just fluff like chick-lit. If you like suspense at all, try the J.D. Robb's first. The first book is fairly short and would give you a good idea if you'd like the characters.

I haven't read Red Rising but I read Red Queen and was one of the ones who really really liked it. I was surprised I liked it so much because I had also read all the bad stuff but I enjoyed it.

Karsyn (imzadi) Sophie ~ YAY for another fly-by-er. I also can't stick to a schedule. If and when I do BOM, I usually have it done WAY ahead of time. I need to just not read it until it's halfway done because I can't read certain pages on certain days. It's just not in me. :)

Eldarwen ~ I LOVE Chris Carter. I've read all of them and I wish he was more well known. He writes creepy sooooooo freakin well! I've found very few books that match up to that level of deranged in his books! :) I was slightly disappointed with some things done in An Evil Mind. I can't say anything without giving it away though. It was still really really great, just not my favorite of the series. I hope he gets another one announced soon!

message 76: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Corinne wrote: "What book series, 50 years from now, do you feel will be regarded as "classics"?"

I'm not really sure, Corinne. But that might be because I don't read the same things as everyone else does, for the most part. HP probably will be, definitely, but I'm not sure what else is on par with that. Hopefully The Martian will be, it's so fantastic, and probably some of those sob fest romances that I won't touch with a 25500 foot pole. LOL!!

Corinne wrote: "How many of you are shooting for a book a day? I commend you!"

I don't have a set amount in mind. Usually I do, but for this one, I care more about socializing than reading. That being said, I've finished 5 books so far, BUT they have been 4 novellas and 1 short story, so really it's more like 2 books, or one longer one. :) I don't think I'm gonna finish one for today, the day is going by too quick and I've been busy tracking coins, adding posts, and catching up on reading all the posts.
