Recently Purchased/Acquired book/s - part 2
Brenda wrote: "I was just on there too Carolyn! Requested Tricia Stringer's new one which I've had on my wish list since I first found out about it :)"Funny Brenda, that's why I read Little Secrets earlier than usual because I have learnt that Harlequin only approve me for one book at a time on Netgalley. I saw the new Tricia Stringer there the other day and desperately wanted to read it. Luckily they granted me access today for it :)
I've got the following books on reserve at the library - I am not top of the list for any of them:
Secrets Between Friends by Fiona Palmer
The Choke by Sofie Laguna
Two Steps Forward by Graeme Simsion
the book whisperer supported Salvos this afternoon:after reading Matt Haig's How to Stop Time I couldn't resist The Radleys for $3
In the Age of Love and Chocolate to complete my Birthright series by Gabrielle Zevin $2
Weathering just because it looked good $4
The Stars are Fire (wishlist) $4
I managed to get The Choke from the library Sally. The trick now is to read it before they want it back!!!
Hahaha yes, going into bookstores (and being unable to resist purchasing at least one book!) is most definitely an addiction! I had to take my car to get looked at in Warrnambool today (visiting my family during the school holidays), and went into Collins Booksellers, and a little later Target...
From Collins:
The Chilbury Ladies' Choir by Jennifer Ryan
Her Mother's Secret by Natasha Lester
From Target:
The Inaugural Meeting of the Fairvale Ladies Book Club by Sophie Green
We That Are Left by Lisa Bigelow
I am so excited to get stuck into these! Knowing me though, they'll probably sit on the bookshelf for a few months before I get round to them! My mum also purchased The Woman in the Wood by Lesley Pearse, which I have no doubt I'll be borrowing from her soon!
:) I was a very happy little bookworm afterwards that's for sure Brenda! :) Still smiling now! I must get onto reserving The Choke myself Sally and Phrynne, it sounds absolutely amazing. :) And good luck Phrynne; I'm sure there'll be a few in the queue for it. ;)
In the mail today from Text, The Stranger by Melanie Raabethen collected 2 reserves from the library:
Standard Deviation and the DVD of
Joe Cinque's Consolation, A True Story of Death, Grief and the Law
and they were having a book sale, so for 50c each I got
The Secret Lives of Dresses and The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake
DH was annoyed because I forgot to buy him buns for lunch :)

That was a good one for me Sharon!

I just picked up the next in the Michael Bennett series Haunted by James Patterson and Harlan Coben's latest, Don't Let Go :)
I picked up
Death of a Ghost by M.C. Beaton from the library today. I need a book with a 'horror' theme for October and as I don't do horror I felt that a Murder mystery with a haunted castle and a 'dead' ghost will be a compromise :)
Picked up several from the library yesterday The Night Ferry by Michael Robotham
Flesh and Bone by Jefferson Bass
The Unicorn in the Barn by Jacqueline K. Ogburn
And In the Woods by Tana French will be available soon
Yeah, I've pretty much caught up in the series despite reading it out of order. The last I read was Chase, and that was over a year ago.
I agree, and I think they also work very well on their own. By the time I'd realised it was a series, I was already half into Alert and really enjoying it. From there, I'd just read them based on their availability to me. Without wanting to reduce or take away from it, the Michael Bennett series to me is the literary equivalent of very good comfort food.
Slipped into Dymocks today to pick up a pressie for my nephew (The Bad Guys: Episode 1 by Aaron Blabey) and couldn't resist a BOGO offer! Picked up Remind Me How This Ends by Gabrielle Tozer (AA) and Northern Lights by Philip Pullman. Who knows when I'll get to them but handy to have another AA at the ready! :)
Came home from the literary lunch to find DH had collected a parcel from the POThe Accident on the A35 and
Under the Cold Bright Lights
from Text
Bookdepository is having a sale so I bought three paperbacks for my bedside stack for around $7 each:
Fear the Darkness by Becky Masterman
A Tap on the Window by Linwood Barclay
Butcher Bird by S.D. Sykes
My postie just brought Under the Cold Bright Lights by Garry Disher and The Accident on the A35 by Graeme Macrae Burnet from Text Publishing :)
Very excited! Picked up some great books at the op shop this morning. The Dinner by Herman Koch $3.25
The Lady in the Van by Alan Bennett $2.25
Rock On: An Office Power Ballad by Dan Kennedy $3.25
Books, Baguettes and Bedbugs: the Left Bank World of Shakespeare and Co. by Jeremy Mercer $3.25
The Rabbit Back Literature Society by Pasi Ilmari Jääskeläinen $4.25
The Heroine's Bookshelf: Life Lessons, from Jane Austen to Laura Ingalls Wilder by Erin Blakemore $3.25
