I guess this one didn't thrill me, as poor Inspector Alvarez didn't manage to best his boss, or even have much of a clue this time round.
In Search of Murder by Roderic Jeffries
Wow! That's number 37 in a series!!! I haven't read any of those.

It was a bit out of the mainstream so it was a very enjoyable read.

It was a great read - will be looking out for more books in the same series.
I've read both #2 and #3 and they are both great - #3 is the best of all I think...she just keeps improving!

That's good - pleased to find a new author and series.

AND challenge completed. It was a great way to share our reading and I have added quite a few titles to my bucket list.

I have bought and am looking forward to reading #6 especially after listening to Meg and her father (Tom Keneally) talking about the book and how it came to fruition.
I am finding lots of new authors from people's challenges this time! Everyone's choices are so varied:)

Yes I have added a few "want to read" books to my list from the suggestions here. It's a great way to share

I was supposed to be reading (UK)The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie but I just couldn't bond with young Flavia. I did try, but the library wanted her back (will have to get back to it sometime later), so I wandered in to the library and discovered (Appalachian Georgia, US) A Corpse's Nightmare by Phillip DePoy. It is apparently book 6 in a series, but it didn't seem to matter. It was an excellent book, with some intriguing supernatural elements. Not to mention the main character waking from a coma (after being murdered and brought back from the dead) and then continually falling asleep and dreaming of the 1920s Jazz scene (I have a bit of a thing for 1920s and 30s). No idea if the other books in the series have anything supernatural in them - the main character is an Appalachian folklorist who likes to solve mysteries. I will have to track some of the other books down.

Scotland - The Novel Habits of Happiness by Alexander McCall Smith
Italy - The Shape of Water by Andrea Camilleri
USA - The Santa Monica Suicide Club by Jeremy C. Thomas
France - Moon in a Dead Eye by Pascal Garnier
Australia - Earthly Delights by Kerry Greenwood
Sweden or England - not sure which book yet
Nice list Trevor! Barry Maitland's Brock and Kolla series are set in England if you enjoy his work:)
Oh yes that and Ash Island were fantastic! I recently read Chelsea Mansions which is #11 and my first in the Brock & Kolla series and it didn't affect my enjoyment that I hadn't read the others first:)

1. SWEDEN - The Girl in the Spider's Web by David Lagercrantz - finished - disappointing :(
2. ENGLAND - Close Your Eyes by Michael Robotham - finished - 3 stars - would have been 4 but lost it a bit at the end.
3. AUSTRALIA - Strange Objects by Gary Crew - Finished - 2.5 stars - liked the structure but the writing lost me sometimes. Found myself reading without listening in places.
4. USA - Brotherhood in Death by J.D. Robb - underway
5. SCOTLAND - Coffin Road by Peter May
6. CANADA - Bury Your Dead by Louise Penny
fingers crossed that the links work like they are supposed to...

I didn't realise until I read the authors' note that Michael Stanley is two people: Michael Sears and Stanley Trollip.
I enjoyed the novel, quite descriptive of Botswana, and Inspector Kubu (Kubu is his nickname which means hippopotamus, as he is a large man who enjoys his food) was an entertaining character. I will read more in this series.

1. Laos: The Woman Who Wouldn't Die by Colin Cotterill - 3
2. Iceland: The Draining Lake by Arnaldur Indriðason - 2
3. Australia: Resurrection Bay by Emma Viskic - 4
4. America: A Purple Place for Dyingby John D. MacDonald - 4
5. Spain: All That Followed by Gabriel Urza - 5
6. England: Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie- 4
