Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Chika and glad to have you here!
Well done with all the positive reviews less than a year since release! If you feel 'Twisted..' would fit the "World" shelf of the group, you are most welcome to add it.
Understanding how the money works may not be enough, sometimes we try to focus on how to help it make its way into authors' pockets legitly.
Hope you have fun and contribute!

"Interested in how money works" is a modest way of saying that I am dedicated to making money from both my writing and other business ventures and I am more than happy to share and contribute to this group as we all appear to be very like-minded.

Thank you for the welcome.

1.) My genre of choice is literary fiction. I guess this is sort of a nebulous term as all genres can potentially be literary fiction. I tend to write about the lives of people as they exist in the present day, but I occasionally explore science fiction and the murder mystery.

2.) I'm always writing short stories, because they're such a great way to experiment with new methods of story telling. I am working on a novel that is essentially about the ramifications of our inability to genuinely connect with people, despite the desire and attempt to do so (I'm very intrigued by how humans interact with each other).

Also, considering the subject matter of this group, I suppose I should note that I have never professionally published anything.

Annie Arcane (anniearcane) @Mr Daniel: re "Also, considering the subject matter of this group, I suppose I should note that I have never professionally published anything."

Ooooh! Do you have plans to self-pub your WIP?

message 157: by Daniel J. (new)

Daniel J. Nickolas (danieljnickolas) | 111 comments Annie wrote: Ooooh! Do you have plans to self-pub your WIP?"

Perhaps. I'm still new to how self publishing works, and have a lot to learn about it in general. It appears, however, that there are a fair amount of people on goodreads, and probably within this group, who have made self publishing work for them, so I'm certainly not apposed to it. I accept my role as "student" for the time being.

Joanna Elm | 145 comments Hi Everyone, and Thank you Nik for inviting me to join the group.
I think some of the discussions here are really interesting. Have been watching the threads while I wondered whether to join another group.
Also wanted to start reading Nik's book. I like it. The style reminds me of early Harold Robbins. I mean that as a compliment. He is one of my favorite early author/influences.
My main problem is with the numerous features on Goodreads and who does what to whom.
So, I may be a bit slow to post to this group, but I need some time to figure out how Goodreads works, and I have to say the info is not always forthcoming from GR.

Hey, take your time and don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it (we're quite forthcoming here *smirks*). Anyhoo, whenever you're ready, works for us. We're like bamboo. All flexible and stuff, ya know? ^_~

Hugs,

P.S. - You're gonna make Mr Nik's day with that compliment! Well, when he wakes up anyway haha!!

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Joanna and welcome here and on Goodreads in general!

Whatever you need help with on GR or with any other stuff for that matter we have a help section here, so feel free to ask and I'm sure people would scramble to help.
Thanks a lot for your interest in Rise of an Oligarch. Harold Robbins is a big name, so being compared to him is a huge compliment, which equally goes to Carlito Sofer, my friend and co-author of the 1-st book.
I see that you have books published as early as 20 years ago?! That's some long record.
Hope you'll enjoy and contribute!

message 167: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Elm | 145 comments Thank you for the warm welcome everyone. I look forward to contributing very soon.
And yes, Nik you are right I did have two novels traditionally published 20 years ago. Actually, I would like to write a recurring, occasional series of "behind the scenes" blog posts about returning to writing fiction after 20 years of doing other things, and write a little about the creative process involved in my third novel.
I have a "Behind the Scenes" page under construction on my website and I would like to link my GoodReads blog to my website for the full post.
Does anyone know if that happens automatically, or if there is a prompt after you finish posting on the GR blog?

Carol Marshall | 3 comments Hi I'm Carol....a starting indie author...of two paranormal horror series the first should rear it's ugly head very soon as an Ebook. I haven't clue how to achieve wealth...I have plenty ideas on how to spend it though...which isn't very helpful.

I'm interested to see what goes on here and will try to keep up.

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Carol and welcome!

There are a little over 1K dudes on Forbes list, who apparently need new spending ideas, so your 'plenty' may be of paramount importance -:)
Good luck with the horror series!
Hope you'll enjoy, spend, earn and contribute!

Hi, Joanna - I did the opposite for my blog - i.e., I created it on my author website, then linked its RSS feed on Goodreads; it's supposed to sync once every 24 hours I believe, but I usually manually sync it to be sure.

I'm not sure how it would work in the opposite direction (linking the Goodreads blog to display on your personal website), assuming I am understanding your question correctly.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) Just a reader. Invited by Nik.

I almost didn't join the group based on the description -- I do find space travel sexy. And I'm addicted to lignon lignin where doubt paper books will ever be a thing of the past for me, add in loving book signings and the hardcovers I collect ...

See that you've already started contributing, I can only wish that you'd enjoy as well!

Welcome Debbie! Can I ask what lignin is?

message 184: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Aug 13, 2016 01:20PM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) Lignin is the smell of old books; some offshoot of the paper. A mix of grass and vanilla notes according to Smithsonian http://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-n... "... Lignin, which is present in all wood-based paper, is closely related to vanillin. As it breaks down, the lignin grants old books that faint vanilla scent..." ( also http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetec... and https://www.scienceabc.com/nature/why... )

There are even some lignin scented candles for booklovers nowadays.

Anna Chant | 16 comments Hi everyone! I'm Anna. Thanks for inviting me to the group Nik!

I write historical fiction and currently have two books self-published. Both are set in the Dark Ages, where wealth and power were just as important as they are now!

My aim is to tell the stories of the often unrecorded and uncelebrated women of the Dark Ages. But if I can become well-known and rich while doing it, that would be great!

Hope to meet lots of new friends here!
