Ameerika psühhopaat by Bret Easton Ellis
(Translation of American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis)
Read date: 4/05/2016
Rating: 2 stars
How it fits: card 8 (author); skip (P - main character Patrick Bateman)

Dear God... I´m disgusted.
It was not an easy read and such emotional roller coaster, though not a pleasant one.
Seriously - don´t read it if you have weak nervous system, because nothing is sacred to the author, not animals, not children - nothing!!
I will never ever read it again and I don´t want to (any time soon) read any similar books to this one. The movie can´t be ever so terrifying as the detailed describing of violence in this book is.
The only things I liked about this book were its witty humor, sarcasm and satire.
But yeah, I was in shock after finishing the book.

Think twice before you start reading it! There are so many beautiful books to read... lol!

message 521: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments I haven't read the book, but no, the movie is far less detailed. It's gory in places but definitely not as detailed or disgusting as the book - it was a Hollywood production after all.

The sarcasm is brilliant though, yes. That came through well enough in the movie.

Jennifer (guinivere87) | 98 comments How as The Beast (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #14) by J.R. Ward ? Rhage and Mary were my favourite couple. I don't think I'll be readingv their second book since I can't stand it when you get HEA and then don't lol. But I am really curious :)

Do you plan to read it any time soon/this year? If you do, please share your emotions right after finishing the book :)
Maybe it´s just me... overreacting... (don´t think so, though)

Now, when my husband has a free evening, we´ll watch the movie also - so NOT watching it alone!!

I've been told a few times before starting the series that the first wasn't the best, and I'm pretty sure that was accurate, but I do have books 2-4 sitting on my shelf to be read soon-ish :-)

I read it for the Bookshelf Bingo Challenge I'm doing. Here's my "review" :)

Weeeeeell. In the spirit of finishing what you started I remembered reading this book a few years ago and really enjoying it. It had witches, fae and as a bonus Death, which is always a good character. And I gave it 4 Stars because I take the GR rating system literally and I "really liked it".
This time around I just couldn't connect. It's still 3 Stars because I like the second half of the book and I can see it getting better but the characters fell flat for me. I blame the fact that in the last few years I've been devouring UF and it's one of my absolute favourite genres and so maybe I've gotten more particular about what works for me.

message 540: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments You know, when I reread it this year, I had a similar feeling. I still enjoyed it a lot but I simply could not reconnect with the way I felt about the book the first time I read it. I left my initial rating of 5 though but.. yeah. I don't know, something didn't feel "right" anymore.

The heaps of UF books read in between might definitely be a reason.

I really think the more books I read especially in a genre that I love, the more I know what speaks to me. To me as a reader even if the world buidling falls flat I can fall in love with the characters and I don't mind.

I look at books now that I read 3-4 years ago and happily gave 5 Star ratings and think "whaaaaat?!". E.g. Kristen Ashley. I've re-read some of her stuff recently and the writing actually makes me cringe lol. It's really strange :)

I see lots of people reading that series lately and they seem to like it well enough.

I finished Crocodile on the Sandbank (Amelia Peabody #1) by Elizabeth Peters yesterday and I'm currently reading Kiss of Steel (London Steampunk, #1) by Bec McMaster , wondering why I waited so long to pick up the latter. I'm really enjoying it!
