Team Hello Kitty
♥ The first book I can remember reading without being forced was in the 4th or 5th grade. I picked up the book "Tiger Eyes" by Judy Blume in our school library. I couldn't even tell you why, I wasn't into reading for fun or anything and I don't remember regularly checking out books. Anyway I fell in love with it. I continued to read every now and then but was not completely addicted to books Until around 2009 when my then boyfriend (now husband) wanted me to ride in a golf cart and watch him play golf....ahhh sooo much fun yeah right, so of course I asked him to stop at the Grocery Store thought I would grab a magazine or something but I ended up buying a paperback titled "The Other Daughter" by Lisa Gardner. Let me tell you I was hooked from page one! My boyfriend throughout the day would say something like wow did you see that shot?" And I would respond with "sssshhhhhhh I'm trying to read!" That book relit my flame for reading and I have been a die hard reader ever since.
I used to believe I only wanted to read serial crime novels. The more gruesome and descriptive the better but somehow over the years I have broadened my interests. I enjoy a variety of books now. Crime (fiction or true), Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Smut, Romance, Historical fiction, Biographies..... I guess now I would have to say if the synopsis grabs my attention I will try it. I have a love/hate relationship with cliffhanger endings. (to be honest on more than one occasion I may have gotten to the end of a book with a cliff hanger and if the next book isn't out yet and available for purchase I may have cussed a bit and created new cuss words.!)

♥ I have loved to read ever since I can remember. I would never get awards in school for sports or anything in the way. However I would always get the bookworm award for pages read. I remember reading Beverly Cleary books and the babysitter club books for hours.

♥ I can't say that there is just one book that changed me or made me the avid reader that I am. However, my fondest memory is of my mother taking my brother and I to participate in the Summer Reading program at our local library. It was always a competition between my brother and I to see who could read the most books and get the most prizes. I can remember reading 2 or more books in a day, in the summer, as a teenager. Now, an adult and teacher, I try to instill this same love of reading in my students. Oftentimes, this is the most difficult part of my job.

there are siblings in the book.

♥ I have had a lifelong obsession with books. We used to move around a lot when I was younger due to my Dad's work. When I was 7 we finally settled in one place and one Saturday after going swimming we went to the library next door where I got my first library card. I can remember being told I was allowed to take out 5 books at a time, while my Dad searched the "boring" books I went to the colourful section and found The Famous Five , we went home and started reading and I was hooked. Every Saturday after swimming we would go to the library and choose some books, I devoured the libraries stock of The Famous Five and soon moved on to other Series books including The Secret Seven and Mallory Towers .
When I moved up into the junior's at school we were introduced y the school library where we would have to pick one English and one Welsh book to read during our reading hour. It was here I found other author's and genres, quickly devouring the Sweet Valley High and Nancy Drew stock. In my final term before High School our class teacher started reading The Hobbit as our class read. There wasn't enough copies for everyone to have their own so we had to share between 2 or 3 of us :( I can remember when we went to the library that weekend asking whether they had a copy and proudly took it into school with me for our next reading session. The only problem with that was as our teacher was reading aloud from the book and getting others to take their turn to read I would be reading ahead of them so when it came to my turn I had to be reminded what page we were on. After this happened a couple of times, my teacher realised what I was doing and signed me up for a national reading test, it came back that at the age of 10 my reading age was 13, he never asked me to read aloud in class again as he felt it was wrong to stop me from reading!
I couldn't believe it when I went to high school and was shown the school library there were so many different books, but they were all a little bit worn. But then the library was redecorated and when they let us back in there were some "new, shiny" books, in amongst the shelves. I picked up a hardback book and couldn't believe the smell, I didn't look at the title I just knew I had to read it before anyone else did. I got it home and started reading and I was in awe, the book was Ten Little Niggers and my love affair with Agatha Christie began. I read all the Agatha Christie books that my school library and town library had and loved Poirot my Dad would even get me a new Agatha Christie every birthday and Christmas.
For years I would only read Mystery books and was introduced to Dick Francis, Ngaio Marsh, Colin Dexter and the "Wycliffe" series. Then when completing my degree my housemate was engrossed in a book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, I can remember thinking but they're kids books, she suggested I try it and see. At the time I was into "The Vampire Chronicles" by Anne Rice, I think I was in love with "Lestat", It was a few months before I had the courage to actually try my housemate's recommendation and that was only because I'd seen it for sale in a discount book store, and needless to say I loved it.
I have expanded my range of books that I read now including, YA, Fantasy, Paranormal and Chick-Lit. Needless to say my first love will always be mysteries but I am willing to give any book a try, to the point of if friends ir customer's of my OH are getting rid of books they always seem to end up on my shelves. I rarely re-read books the only books I have re-read are And Then There Were None and Colin Dexter and that was only because it's been over 20 years since I read them last.

We've got Hello Kitty and Princesses already.
Ashley is working on The Killing Lessons for team Star Trek, but if she shouldn't finish on time, we can use your book instead.
Great job on the March mini challenge everyone!

I'm guessing based on your posts that you guys have already been doing this but just wanted to make sure. So far the books with words already used will all fit somewhere else so hopefully we'll find a spot for everything read this last week. (I've got a ton of books to finish so hopefully they will have some of the words - of course all but two are physical library books so I need to find online previews for everything, lol.) Thanks! :D
And Happy Easter, everyone! Hope you all had a great day/weekend. :)

I also think we've lost Jim (haven't heard back from a PM several days ago) so we'll have to cover his draw 2 book in hand 12. I have Celebrity in Death in that hand already for a 9 and it will also cover either of the cards we had Jim in for, so we can use that one for the draw 2. We'd just need another book for either a 4 or a 6!
Like I told Maria Helena earlier, I have a lot of books left to finish but I've been in a weird reading mood where I read a bit of everything and don't actually finish books, lol! But I shouldn't have a problem finishing what I've signed up for in March. I'm more than halfway through most of them, and the two I haven't started yet are super quick reads. So I'm good for anything I have in the hands (I have some extras on the tracking sheet that I haven't put into hands yet and will most likely move to April). I don't know that I'll be able to finish anything extra, though if we need them I can probably manage 2-3 for wild cards. I've been saving some novellas and short books that are maybe 120-140 pages so I could throw a couple of those in if I had to.
We're so close to finishing everything! Even if we're a bit short we should still finish 12/13 hands, plus the full mini-challenge and probably 10+ words in the Easter challenge. Awesome job, everyone! :D
Hi, I'm Lori from team Hello Kitty.
♥ I cannot remember not being able to read, but my Mom did briefly think I was a genius as a child. She told me she would read to me at night until one night I started reading to her. She thought her toddler could read! ...until I was going to the next part of the book before she turned the page. Guess I loved the book so much I just memorized it;)

I don't think I will be able to squeeze in anymore books until April.

Basically we just need 6 more books overall - if none of them fit for a 5 I'll easily be able to rearrange the books a bit and make everything fit. I finished Emerald Green today (still have to post for both mini-challenges for that yet) and I'm close to finishing The Invasion of the Tearling and Calamity and should finish them tonight/tomorrow. That still leaves me with 4 I signed up for lol, but I can still knock them all out before end of the month. Two of them are 600+ pages though and I'm not far into them yet, so I'll see where we are tomorrow. I could easily move one or both of the long books to April and fit in a few short books instead. I've been meaning to reread Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising series for a while now - they're tagged middle grade I think but they're all over the minimum word count. All five of those together would be less pages than those 2 long books of mine and let us fill in an extra three spaces, so that might be best depending on what everyone else will be finishing in the next few days. :)

Any books she has read that were started after March 1 count :)

When you have a chance, could you please make a shelf for this game and add on anything that you finished this month (and started on or after March 1st)? I've also sent you a friend request. :)
Everyone else, I just took a quick glance at Nicole's books and she read several in March. I didn't check start dates but I think there are probably enough to cover those last empty slots we have in the hands. So no one should need to try and rush to finish more books by the end of the month. :) We still have lots of words open in the Easter mini-challenge though, so if you do finish anything definitely post here and I will use them there if possible.
I'm definitely going to move The Aeronaut's Windlass to April for myself, since I don't have to have it back to the library until 4/16. Replacing it with Over Sea, Under Stone which is also first in a series, and has the word "saffron" in it to knock out one of the more difficult Easter words.
Fantastic job, everyone!!! :)

Also, hello everyone I don't already know!
edit: Here is my shelf for this game.
I have read 11 books for the month of March. Hopefully this helps!

I'm updating the spreadsheet and mini challenge stuff now and then I will post an update.
Oh and Nicole, there are two mini-challenges going on right now - I think we're good on the regular March mini-challenge, but we're still working on the Easter mini-challenge. For that one, we can only use books finished from the 25th through the end of the month, and we're doing a scavenger hunt for several different words:
♔ Blueberry
♔ Grape
♔ Walnut
♔ Dill
♔ Chilli
♔ Turmeric
♔ Spinach
♔ Chlorophyll
♔ Onion
♔ Carrot
♔ Paprika
♔ Cranberry
♔ Raspberry
♔ Hibiscus
♔ Orange
♔ Lemon
♔ Chamomile (or Camomile)
♔ Celery
♔ Cumin
♔ Saffron
Each word found gets us double points for one card, so we're trying to fill as many as we can. I can check the books you've already finished from 3/25 to now, but if you finish anything in the last couple of days let us know if you notice any of those words. We can still use those books for the mini-challenge even though we have all of the hands filled. :)
I'll post an update for the Easter mini-challenge tomorrow once I've searched Nicole's books and the books I have to finish yet this month. At this point though, I know we have found orange, lemon, carrot, onion, raspberry, grape, walnut, and saffron.

March mini
Team Minions - Ora - Dark Lover - I know you completed the book and posted here, but I can't find the post in the Minions thread? Not sure if I'm just missing it, but could you please give me the link? :)
Team Peanuts - Denise - Over Sea, Under Stone - I'm going to read this in bed once I'm off the laptop. Should finish tonight (only about 35 pages left) so I'll post in their thread tomorrow when I get online
Team TMNT - Denise - The Well of Ascension - should finish this tomorrow and will post when I'm done!
That's all we have left for the March mini, so we will get all of the points there plus the bonus. :)
March Hands:
Hand One - complete
Hand Two - Karla, Moonwalk, currently reading
Hand Three - Denise, Onyx, currently reading
Hand Four - Denise, Over Sea, Under Stone, finishing tonight
Hand Five - complete
Hand Six - complete
Hand Seven - complete
Hand Eight - Denise, The Well of Ascension, will finish tomorrow
Hand Nine - complete
Hand Ten - complete
Hand Eleven - Denise, Calamity, will finish tomorrow - Maria Helena, No Shortcuts to the Top: Climbing the World's 14 Highest Peaks, currently reading
Hand Twelve - Maria Helena, Gin & Daggers, currently reading
Hand Thirteen - complete
If anyone isn't going to be able to finish anything that I posted, just let me know! Nicole still has a couple of books read that I didn't use, so I can absolutely rearrange stuff if needed and we'll still finish all hands. :)

Hopefully the April cards will be posted soon, as well. Then we can start filling in some of those spaces. :)

Also, yes, for April (and May) only the finished dates count for books. So you guys can start now if you want to and just make sure you finish after the official start of April.
Countdown to end of March/start of April
And yes, there are a few new cards for April, and also an extra 14th hand. The new cards will have one of the Uno card colors (Yellow, Red, Green, or Blue) as well as a number. There are four of them scattered throughout the hands, and three in the last hand. For those cards - say 7 Red for example - we need to use a book that not only fits the criteria for the number 7 but also has a red cover (50% or more). I can check with the mods on anything we aren't sure of and want verified. These color cards are worth 30 points each. :)

I'm actually kind of sad because I just checked out a book that is yellow but none of our color cards are for yellow, lol! We have one green card and then three each for red and blue. We'll probably want to try and cover those first if we can.
I have

So far I don't think I have anything else planned that would work for any of the color cards - I have a green book but it's a standalone and I don't think there are any O characters. I'd have to actually read it to know for sure!
Oh actually, I will probably read

And now that I've refreshed the page and actually seen all of the posts, lol...Ora, I would think that would work for green, but I will ask the mods to be sure - they actually made a separate thread in the captain group for verifying cover colors, lol. :)

So of the colors, so far we have covered:
1 Green
3 Blue
5 Blue
9 Red
1 Red OR 7 Red
And maybe the 7 Blue depending on UnBound (my blue book has a lot of strange names so if I happen to find a V I'll let you know)
Awesome, it's not even April yet and we have 5 out of 7 of the hard cards already figured out. ;)

Oops just saw this...no worries, we still have a couple of Nicole's books left! I'll leave yours in for now and see what happens. It would take moving a few books around to cover that card, so I'm not going to worry about doing it unless I have to. ;)

For April I'm going to read

Cards:
One: book 1 in a series
Skip: has a character with a first name, surname or nickname starting with K or P - Character named Kitty
I wonder if we could use this for Reverse, I listened to the book on audio last year.

Awesome! The 5 cards can be a pain sometimes. Even if we don't need it for a 5 the Mercy books tend to fit in a bunch of places - 2/3 for Mercy/Adam (last names), Skip for the author, Reverse (I've read everything out so far), sometimes some other cards depending on which if any fae show up. :)
Lol Ashley, even I was confused by that point with what color cards were still open. ;) I've updated the post at the top of our thread with the April cards and I'll post it here in a minute.
Karla, good to know you'll finish your book in time! I'd seen you were partway through a few days ago and figured you probably make it. :) As for the April book, sadly the Reverse doesn't count if you were the one who read it before and it's a reread, it has to be another team member. We have a lot of Skip cards in April though, so I'll probably use it for one of those!
