Angie ☯ | 3092 comments If you are a fan of historical fiction, try "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon; it has some fun throw in (time travel, fantasy) and a bit of romance - all set in Scotland. Scotland is my dream trip, so maybe I am a little bias, but I really like the series so far!

Dima, did you read Away by Amy Bloom by Amy Bloom for the Egypt?
Please mark the date you finished the book (I see it on your read shelf, but it doesnt have a finish date).

Soon again the packing time..., lol

I am planning a hiking trip to west Scothand highlands, Angie :)
It has been my dream to visit Scotland for a while now.

I have seen 2 first series of Outlander (TV-series), but I stopped watching, because I am sure that the book is better and I first want to read the book, then maybe I will watch the series again.

Elinaly, please let me know about your trip!!

Yes, definitely, read the books before watching the TV-series. Both are great, but I think you have so much more background after reading.

message 160: by Elinaly (new)

Elinaly So ladies, how are we doing?
Can we head to Russia tomorrow? Or is it so exotic in Egypt that we will stay here a bit longer? ;)

Dima - when did you finish "Away"? we need a date! was it 20 Feb?

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 334 comments I will have mine done sometime tonight so will be ready to move on tomorrow.

message 162: by Elinaly (new)

Elinaly Helen, I'm afraid we have a tiny-tiny problem...
# 73 in the list is Eli s abeth, but you read a book by Eli z abeth.

I didn't notice it until now.

If everyone else will finish their book, then we can leave it and still get max points, because it is allowed for one member to read any book.
So at the end so called 'problem' will be solved :)

Elinaly Shy The WidowMaker wrote: "I will have mine done sometime tonight so will be ready to move on tomorrow."

Nice :)
It would be ok even when you finish it tomorrow (2nd March), because then we could still start our week in Russia from tomorrow.

No worries :)
Lets hope that Martina's university gives her some space and she has had time to read :)
If Martina will finish her book, we are good to go! ;)

message 169: by Helen (new)

Helen Bassett (hbee741) I can read Can You Keep A Secret by Sophie Kinsella. It is on my to read list.

message 170: by Martina (new)

Martina Forasacco | 74 comments I finished it today! Sorry but I promise I will stop being too busy with university XD

Aaaand I'm like super ready for Russia, do we go for spell-it-out or place? So I can pick my book :)

And about the books I read until now: I recommend all of them, but this last one was...ehm...quite too serious even for me. I guess I'm not a fan of the Bronte sisters, sadly :(

Ready and waiting for news about Russia :)

message:
Dear NBRC Travel Agent,
Team Readers without Borders is reporting that today our week in Hurghada (Egypt) ended (we arrived on 24th Feb and today, 2nd March, we are heading already to the next stop). We have completed the detour (here are the read books).

4th stop - 50 points (so far 170 points).

Thank you! :)

message 174: by Elinaly (last edited Mar 02, 2016 07:51AM) (new)

Elinaly For Russia now at least five of us are reading books set in Russia and/or books by Russian author, so I think lets try to do this (and NOT to spell-out).

But, if anyone feels that she doesn´t want to read book by Russian author or set in Russia, then let us know and we will see what we can do to get the max points :)

PS! If 6 of us will read "Russian" book, then we are already getting our max points!

message 175: by Elinaly (last edited Mar 02, 2016 08:26AM) (new)

Elinaly Everyone on board? ;)
bye-bye Egypt and hello Russia...

Helen, if you want we can register this book as your Egypt read :)
I see that you finished it today.

message 177: by Helen (new)

Helen Bassett (hbee741) It was a short book. I will change it in the ss.

Did I read my Russia book too soon? I thought we were further along than we were for some reason known only to my mixed up mind.

message 178: by Martina (new)

Martina Forasacco | 74 comments ok, so for my Russian book I will read a book by Dostoevskij "The eternal husband",in Italian :) it seems funnier than usual Dostoevskij, and I truly hope he will be! :)

Good stay in Russia, everyone! :)

message 179: by Elinaly (new)

Elinaly Helen wrote: "Did I read my Russia book too soon? I thought we were further along than we were for some reason known only to my mixed up mind."

It doesn´t really matter when you read books for certain stop. It´s totally ok to read ahead :)
The main thing is that we should finish our books for the certain stop within a week.

As a reminder:
week 1: 3.-10. Feb
week 2: 10.-16. Feb
week 3: 17.-23. Feb
week 4: 24.Feb-02.March
week 5: starts on 2nd March, so we should finish our Russian books (task) on 8th March (or latest on 9th March).

message 180: by Elinaly (new)

Elinaly Shy, what do you plan to read for this week?
If you want you can read any book really... and we still get max points ;)

Sõdur Ivan Tšonkini elu ja ebatavalised seiklused I by Vladimir Voinovich
English version called: The Life and Extraordinary Adventures of Private Ivan Chonkin
How it fits: set in Russia
Read date: 5 March
Rating: 4 stars

This book was unbelievable (satiric fiction), but you have to remind yourself that this really was life in Russia and Soviet Union when Stalin was the leader of the Soviet Union (outbreak of World War II).
Laugh or cry about it, but between the lines is hidden the ugly truth and the absurdity of Soviet life - no wonder the book was prohibited in Russia.

message 184: by Elinaly (new)

And we are doing so-so fine ;)

Elinaly I'm worried about Shy.
We should start packing again soon and I'm not sure what she is reading for this week...
Shy, are you well?

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 334 comments Sorry ladies I have been in bed sick since Wednesday. I am reading Ruby Red (Precious Stone Trilogy, #1) by Kerstin Gier . It isnt set in Russia but it can be a spell out read.

message 189: by Elinaly (new)

Elinaly Good to hear you are alright and hopefully you are doing much-much better now :)

Unfortunately we can´t use it as spell-out, because we decided not to do the spell out and stick to the task (author/setting) :)
But is it ok for you if we register your book as so called "any book"?
This way we can also get the max points.

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 334 comments Yes thats fine Elinaly.

message 191: by Martina (new)

Martina Forasacco | 74 comments I finished my book yesterday too! "the eternal husband", an unexpectedly funny book by Dostoevskij :) I'd like to ask you about the next stop: what if I don't remember the exact day I've bought a book?

Was it last year (2015) or earlier? If you know the year and I dont know... spring, winter etc... then I think it will be ok.
Exact date is not necessary - at least I think so :)

But just in case, everyone else - lets try to read a book that has been on your GR-shelf more than 6 months (the add-date shows it). This way we can be 100% sure to leave the stop with max points :)

message 193: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3092 comments I just added all my books to GR - but I have the purchase dates from Amazon, so I know how long all of them have been on my personal TBR shelf! ☺ Let me just say, some of them have been there a really long time because I just keep adding more!!

message 194: by Elinaly (last edited Mar 09, 2016 12:00AM) (new)

Elinaly Should we just in case ask the Travel Agent (or in airport thread) to specify our detour task?
So that after a week spent in stop we dont get announced that some books weren´t on our GR shelf long enough to qualify. Hehehee... and that would be bad...

Or can we decide in our group whether it is meant GR add-date or also books on our home shelves count?

I dont know, I´m confused.

message 195: by Monika (last edited Mar 09, 2016 02:29AM) (new)

Monika (monkatx) Well I hope it isnt that harsh, otherwise I would not have any book to read for this detour. I had to remove my current book and add different edition, so you can see only the date I readded it. :(

message 196: by Elinaly (new)

Elinaly Meanwhile...

Shy, will you be able to finish your book (Ruby Red) today?
Or if not then maybe we can register your any other read book for this week?

If we want to keep our position in leader board and travel to the next stop today, then I should send stop completion message to the Travel Agent any time now (definitely today)!

I truly apologise if I´m being too eager about this... lol.

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 334 comments Eliany we can use Changes (The Dresden Files, #12) by Jim Butcher I finished it last night.
