Princep really starts with military drama. Lot's of action and the stakes are hiked up really high now.

Brotherhood was great! A lot of emotions and character depth. It was very gruesome though. I gave it 5 stars .
I finished the prologue and wow what a prologue , I can see how action packed this book is going to be! P.S.I liked Max's father I didn't think I would before getting into his head.
Yes, it is really action packed. I've been listening today when cooking and there is so much going on this time. And so much of it is critical action. That's good to know about Brotherhood. I started reading it but haven't gotten very far yet. So far no body...
Vord can use fury crafting now. I think it has something to do with Tavi and what he did in that place.Gaius's plan to send Isana to form a truce with the Icemen and Amara and Bernard to find the reason for their fury crafting sounds a bit crazy and impossible to achieve but I'm sure both group would be successful.
Not much from Tavi so far, it seems he made a mistake by leaving Alera.

It comes from when Amara and Bernard had their run-in when Doroga came to get them in the Calderon Valley. Remember, the Vord had taken over humans and then saw Bernard's troops using fury craft. What's new is that they can use it without being in a human body.
Of course, it's possible that you don't have to be human to fury craft. Kitai can too. Yes, she's connected to Tavi, but there's likely more to it than that. Plus, like their beliefs about their history, I suspect there is a lot they believe erroneously.
And, wow, just go ahead and tell Amara and Bernard that they're being sent on a suicide mission. Nice.
ShoSho wrote: ""Kill it"LOL"
Just wait until the scene when Tavi finds out what his nickname means. It's priceless.
Oh wow I didn't think the Canim situation was this bad. Everyone's dead except the people in this range. This is scary!!Tavi will find a way to defeat the Vord! I'm sure :D
This book keeps giving me the chills. There are scenes with Tavi as well as Isana's experience on the Ice Wall, especially with Max's father.
I'm in chapter 41 and everything is all in chaos. Isana's situation is uncertain, Amara is in a terrible situation, Eren is on the run from a horrible situation, there are sad reveals about the past, and Tavi is far away. Aaah! I'm so glad that I already have the next book, as it's clear this one will end with Alera in shambles.
ShoSho wrote: "end of chapter 19 WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTT?"
Which chapter is that? I should go get my hardcopy so I can keep up with the action in other chapters.

Envidia Aquitaine with the Vord queen!!!!

Oh yeah. Of course she shows up again. We knew she got away, and she's completely amoral. But, I agree, this is particularly nasty of her.
I finished last night and AAAAAAHHHHHH! So much is left up in the air! Yes, we know where (most) end up, but everything, and I mean everything, is uncertain.
EEp I'm listening to chapter 38 , Amara's POV. I don't want to listen anymore :( she is in a very bad situation
We knew that Raucus had challenged the Gauis to juris macto. but why? Isana says over Valiar Marcus. What does he have to do with anything?
ShoSho wrote: "haahaa he just found out the meaning of his nickname!"Isn't that awesome? It was so funny!
ShoSho wrote: "EEp I'm listening to chapter 38 , Amara's POV. I don't want to listen anymore :( she is in a very bad situation"I know! It made me squirm. I was tempted to stop listening or fast forward.
ShoSho wrote: "We knew that Raucus had challenged the Gauis to juris macto. but why? Isana says over Valiar Marcus. What does he have to do with anything?"Hmm, it made sense at the time, now I can't find where that incident was described. Ugh, I can't remember what that was about.
I couldn't sleep last night after I woke up at 3:30 and finished listening while laying in bed. A few things that I've been thinking about : Is aquatain going to give up something he has worked for for years when Tavi gets back? It seems very unlikely!
What was in that letter that Gauis left for him?
Alera is a Great fury, isn't she? Can Tavi get the other Gauis's furies? Or are they lost forever?
Tavi don't have much fury crafting, is Alera going to help him with that? Does he have control over her?
They left a queen with a huge army of Vord in Canim land. What's there to stop her from moving to Alera?
That Juris Macto over Valis Marcus is still bothering me.
Do you think Tavi knows that Marcus is not who he says he is? I'm sure he doesn't know that he is Phidelias!
Are the Alerans going to accept Kitai as first lady?
I think Amara and Bernard are going to adopt Masha. I hope Caria gets what she deserves for poisoning Gauis for years.
I knew Gaius was going to die in this book but I still didn't like it. I wanted a final meeting between him and Tavi.
How do you think Alerans are going to react to the return of the Canim? They have to share their land with them now.

So many good questions! Well, here are some quick thoughts I had:
Is Aquataine going to give up something he has worked for for years when Tavi gets back? It seems very unlikely! I agree, it's very unlikely. He's spent too much time scheming to just let go of his plans and believe someone he doesn't know could do better.
What was in that letter that Gauis left for him? Good question. Maybe something about how the furies and the Great Furies work?
Alera is a Great fury, isn't she? Can Tavi get the other Gauis's furies? Or are they lost forever? I rather wonder if she isn't THE Great Fury. And I wonder at what the relationship between humans and furies really is. The conversation Ehren overheard made it sound like the furies have a choice, and that they've worked with others. And now we've seen that they work with the Ice Men. It will be interesting to see what Tavi does, and how much fury crafting comes to him. Since Alera did, it seems like it's likely that he can inherit, as others have.
Tavi don't have much fury crafting, is Alera going to help him with that? Does he have control over her? Well, Tavi has a really different take on these things, doesn't he? He certainly isn't going to take Alera for granted. I hope that he can learn from her.
They left a queen with a huge army of Vord in Canim land. What's there to stop her from moving to Alera? Well, they don't have ships or know how to sail. But, wouldn't a Vord Kraken be an awful thing?
That Juris Macto over Valis Marcus is still bothering me. I know it was mentioned at some point, but can't remember when.
Do you think Tavi knows that Marcus is not who he says he is? I'm sure he doesn't know that he is Phidelias! I'm not sure he does. Marcus channels his role as First Spear so thoroughly.
Are the Alerans going to accept Kitai as first lady? Well, that's a huge question, isn't it?

You are likely right about Masha. Wasn't Caria still in Alera Imperium when it blew? I thought maybe she went up with it. I agree that I wanted a final meeting between Gaius and Tavi. Tavi has been so on his own and has so many questions. And I can't think that the Alerans will welcome the Canim. But, things are so unsettled, they may just be happy for some stability to return, even if it looks different.
I found it! Back when Tavi meets Marcus in Cursor's Fury, he relates that he knows of Marcus's earlier heroism up on the Ice Wall under Antillus Raucus. He had done the impossible by rescuing Aleran women and children captives from the Icemen during a terrible winter. In recognition, Raucus gave Marcus his own sword, appointed Marcus to the house of Valiar, and told Gaius Sextus to recognize it or he'd challenge him to the Juris Macto. It happened when Max was six.Butcher is really good at keeping all of these strings taut and alive across the series.
Lara wrote: "Well, they don't have ships or know how to sail. But, wouldn't a Vord Kraken be an awful thing?"That's exactly what I was thinking about! They can make creatures that can fly , they probably can make creatures that can swim!

Maybe they learn from the people they are attacking. If none are water people, I guess that would limit them. They don't seem to do much engineering--mostly it's biological, but not structural. The vord buildings seem to stay the same.
