My name is Melanie from Las Vegas, NV. I love to read but with a busy life between work and making the decision to go back to school I don't always have a lot of time. What extra reading I have been doing is late in the evenings and only a few minutes. I have always wanted to be part of a book group and take the time to actually read some of these books that I see and never get around to.

My name is Lizzie, I am 25 and I'm from Chicago.
I absolutely love to read, anything from an autobiography to a suspenseful horror novel. I find this app goodreads absolutely amazing for someone one like me who likes to jump all over every genre.
I decided to join this group because I want to further educate myself on feminism. I know the basics, but I want to get deep into this subject and learn as much as I can while meeting new people with the same common interests. :) I am excited for this new journey and THANK YOU EMMA for making this group and letting us get involved too!

My Name is Alice, I'm 22 and I'm from Italy (woho!)
My love for books is the main reason why I joined this club, but I hope to learn more about feminism and gender equality.
Unfortunately I can't read "My Life On The Road" because is not available in my country but I'm looking forward to the next books.
ps: sorry for my terrible english

I'm Gülay from Ankara, Turkey. I'm 27 years old.
I'm studying for my thesis on Gender and Humor and that's the reason why I've joined the book club. I don't normally do book clubs but I do want to follow the books Emma will recommend (I have so much respect for her).
Read well, everyone!

I'm Chris, I'm 23 and American and I'm a Fulbright Fellow living in Tirana, Albania! This is my first book club on Goodreads and the main reason I've decided to join is so that I can further my education in regards to feminism and feminist principles. I'm going to be totally honest and say that I'm not as familiar with the feminist movement as I am with other topics and movements. I believe in gender equality 100%, but never really understood the feminist movement if that makes any sense. I strongly believe in Plato's principles when it comes to learning as I strongly believe that the quest for truth is everyone's ultimate adventure. Hopefully by reading some good books and talking about them with you good people, I'll be able to better myself and bring myself closer to truth. I do have a wicked busy schedule as I am working on two feature films over here as well as my Fulbright Project and I'm writing a screenplay, so my time is not really a luxury, but I will absolutely try my best to keep up with the books and the discussions.
Cheers and Happy New Year!

I've joined this group because I am beginning to truly realise the power of all of us and am excited about the future of feminism. Look how many of us have joined the group already, its amazing.
Looking forward to reading some books I wouldn't normally have picked up and the discussions that follow. :)

My name ist Desirée, I'm 27 and from Germany. I love Emmas engagement with this topic and as well reading since I was a small girl, dreaming about different worlds and characters. My main interest in taking part here is to learn more about feminism, people who are changing the world and where I can take part in the whole process. Feminism is as important as any other human right and we should finally start to make equality a living thruth.
Cheers everyone :)

I'm Emily, I'm a feminist, and I'm a 24yo sessional academic in undergraduate fashion theory subjects currently based in London.
I'm most interested in the feminist discourse in modern and contemporary literature, popular and celebrity culture (that's you, Emma!) and most especially the fashion industry.
I hope this discussion group allows people to form educated opinions about feminism in order to move toward a more equal global society!

I'm Zelda, 19, from Minnesota (USA). I'm an elementary education major, math endorsement, political science minor at the College of St. Benedict.
I am a feminist. That's one of the first things people learn about me and I am super proud of that fact. I also, like many of you, look up to Emma and admire all of her work. Therefore, this book club was an obvious one to join!
I'm not sure how to comment on others posts but I'll figure out eventually. Can't wait to begin reading!

My name is Sarah and while originally from Houston, Texas I now live in Denton, TX.
I've been involved with human empowerment services since 2013 and the idea of reading and talking theory and then the possibility of organizing/acting is what has brought me here! Emma Watson's HeForShe campaign is only the beginning of engaging everyone in the equality discussion.

I'm Kelsey and I'm from Thunder Bay, Ontario. I am excited to join this club and read and discuss the books that are chosen.
Thanks for the opportunity and I look forward to it :)

I have become more interested in feminism in the past year. I hadn't really thought about why, but now I supposed it has to do with my children approaching adolescence. I want my daughter and my son to be advocates for equality, and that means I need to step up. Books have always been my go-to when I need to know how to do something, so joining this book club sounds perfect.
Also, kudos to Ms. Watson for starting this. My daughter already loves her as Hermione Granger and now this gives me more evidence to point out that Emma is a hero in real life as well!

I'm so excited about this group! I have a huge love for reading, I consider myself a modern feminist, and I'm a huge fan of Emma Watson, so this group is pretty made for me. I'm excited for the books to come every month and discussing them with all the lovely people involved in this group because of the relationships we will build and all the information we will learn by reading books that we might not usually read or that would read at a later date.

I saw Emma's post on Facebook and immediately wanted to join this group. I think it's amazing how many wonderful people already joined from all over the world. ❤

Im Brittney from San Diego, CA. Im a 10th grade English teacher very excited to start participating in this book club. I joined in order to get my students excited for the club as well as to read novels that spark my passions (which can sometimes be impossible to do while teaching curriculum). Im a proud feminist that empowers my students to challenge their traditional beliefs and seek out equality for all.
Looking forward to these discussions as well as the discussions from my student meetings as well.
My name is Ian, and I live in the United States. I joined this club to better understand what I can do to aid women's empowerment, as well as understand equality better.
Brittney wrote: "Hi everyone,

I think it's great that you are incorporating your students. Education is the greatest strength we can share with others.

My name is Donna and I'm from Leeds in the UK.
I joined the book club because I'm a feminist and I love reading so this is the perfect way to combine those two interests. I'm looking forward to joining in discussions and developing my views and knowledge.
The other thing I'm really hoping to do is to gain a better understanding of intersectional feminism.

I joined this book club because I absolutely LOVE to read and because I'd love to be apart of discussions about great literature with some like-minded people (I, too, want to learn more about intersectional feminism, Donna!)

I'm doing research on Zusak's The Book Thief at the moment.
I'm one of those who believe literary and cultural movements should work together. Feminism, postcolonialism, ecocriticism, marxism...they are all about equalty, respecting one another and nature. I'm simply for equalty and peace, which is considered revolutionary by many.
I'm probably not going to be able to follow all discussions here and read all books, because uni work is really important to me and there is so much I want to read. But I'll try to join as many discussions as possible. This could become very interesting.

I'm a secondary student and I love read, that's why I joined this book club, because I think that in school they should talk about gender equality and explain to us what feminism means. So I joined this book club to learn for myself and then explain this to my classmates.

My name is Tünde. I'm from Hungary, and I'm 27. The reason why I joined this group is that I love Emma so much and admire her work. I would like to get to know more about feminism.
Thanks for make this possible! :)
Hi everyone!
I'm Anja, and I'm a Eurasian German living in Germany at the moment. I'm almost finished with my studies, and am writing my thesis about conflict management in a biodiversity conservation context. I'm an intersectional feminist, however I prefer the term 'equalist' as I find this includes fighting against racism, as well as for LGBTQ rights.
I'm looking forward to reading and am interested to see what books are going to be defined as feminist literature. :)

I have been a feminist since I was in 5th grade and I've been an admirer of Emma Watson since I first saw Harry Potter when I was very young.
I joined this group because of my love for reading, writing, Emma Watson, and Feminism. She has been an esteemed role model of mine for ages and her work both on and off screen has been truly inspiring to see.
I currently work as a Certified Nurse assistant and a Doula (birth and labor assistant)
I look forward to reading and conversing with you all.

Have a wonderful day!

Even though, I am young, I really want to gain a better understanding of what feminism is. I strongly believe that gender equality is a really important topic that isn't discussed enough. I also want to read more and I think that this a great way to do so!

I'm Lea and just found out about this group, ordered the book and joined. I can't wait to get started!
I'm from Germany, but am currently studying Acting in San Francisco. I love storytelling in every form and definitely need more books in my life <3
One of my new year's resolutions is to read as much as I used to before I started studying. I've noticed that when I'm stressed, I tend to senselessly scroll through Facebook nowadays and I want to work against that by reviving my reading passion.
I can't wait for the wonderful discussions we'll be having and the great books to read!
Best wishes,
Lea

I'm Suzanne, 31 and architect in the UK.
My inner feminist is pretty interested in this! Have always had a feminist streak.. made stronger by a very male dominated industry!

I'm an Australian writer. I'm excited to see the book recommendations. I adore Emma Watson and her take on feminism, so I really wanted to join...so I did!

My name is Sophia, I'm about to turn 26 and I come from Sweden.
I joined this book club because feminism is close to my heart and I'm eager to learn more. This also feels like a great oppurtunity to discuss important questions with positive and open minded people.
I've been slacking on my reading lately and hopefully this group can get me back on track.
Have a wonderful day everyone!

I joined this group with the main purpose of figuring out how I can explain the real definition of feminism to my mom and tell her why I am a feminist. She believes feminist is the negative connotation of woman supremacy, and that's not what it's about. And I like reading things written by strong opinionated women because it inspires me to work harder and not be afraid.

My name is Marina, I'm 18 and I'm from Cologne, Germany.
I joined this book club because I really admire Emma's work with UN women and have been interested in it since the beginning. I would like to learn more about feminism and since I have always loved reading, I don't think there's a better way to learn than by reading books.
It's really nice meeting you all and I'm looking foward to discussing and sharing my thoughts with you! :)

I guess what they say is true: no book club comes at the right time.
My name's Libby. I'm from Minnesota. I'm a writer and a feminist and I soon hope to be studying library science and book conservation. I've got some advanced degrees in writing, but haven't really found a career there, unless you count the never published essays and poems I write. I learned about book arts and bookbinding recently and fell. in. love. This led me to realizing duh of course, library science. BUT anyway...
I came here because my sister suggested it and it's unlike us to share things so that was exciting and I'm signing up because all of your introductions, women from all over the world, a huge variety in ages and at differing points in feminism, made me cry with the coming together of it all. So hello you lovely, lovely people, I'm happy to be here.
Nice to meet you all and Iury above me. I come from a small town too and books did the same thing for me, which is why I became a writer and now want to be a librarian. Meditation has recently become my saving grace. Never, ever apologize for your "bad English". Even "bad English" can make beautiful and interesting writing. Embrace it, and if you do want it to get better, keep practicing! Cheers.

First of all: Reading all your amazing introductions makes me really excited for what is yet to come in this group. Looking forward to discuss with all of you about literature.
I am Laura, half German and half Italian, currently living in Germany. I am a PR-journalist but recently startet to go to University again to study languages (English, Italian, Swedish, Arabic) and Literature.
Judging by my thoughts, I have always bin kind of a feminist or 'equalist' as one of you called it. But I decided I was one just recently when I experienced injustice in the office-universe.
Love this group so far! :)

I joined this group because I am a huge fan of Emma and what she stands for. I want to try to help better the world and this seems like a good place to start.

I am 20 years old and I'm from Sydney, Australia.
I came here to learn its as simple as that.
Also, my grammar is terrible. I apologise in advance for the disgusting posts your going to have to read!

Hugs and kisses

My name is Brittany, and I am from Newton, New Jersey in the United States. I am graduating in May with a degree in Media Studies. I hope to one day become a motivational speaker and travel to world teaching young girls about the importance of independence. On that note, I'm looking for a job so if you have any openings (wink wink)....
I am a huge advocate of women's rights, taking classes and conducting research on the power struggles of television relationships. My most recent paper is on the linguistic differences of the script of Grey's Anatomy, based on the genders who are in more powerful job title positions. I love studying how modern feminism is affecting our media!
I am SO EXCITED to be joining this global bookclub. My favorite feminist is Julia Kristeva. Her ideals on abjection are so interesting to learn and teach others about. I am very excited to find new books to read and further my education with. I'd like to find new friends and, also, learn about new cultures and intersectionality through this group :) Feel free to shoot me a message!

My name is Agnes and I am 31 year old who was born in Poland but for last 10 years I live and work in UK. I am after business school. I was study Polish Literature , English Literature was part of my English knowledge. But I love to read now more then when I was studying.
I love non friction , crime , fantasy, etc
I love idea of this reading group is nice to be part of something beautiful:)
Ok peace out time to. Go back to my book . ( I am kinda a slow reader )
PS nice to meet you all

I have always loved reading and really like this site. After hearing Emma Watson's HeForShe speech, I knew it was ok for me to call myself a feminist. When I found out about this book club, I got really excited and joined immediately- it sounds a wonderful idea. Not sure I'll be able to read all of the books that are chosen, but I'll try my best.
It would be nice to hear and learn other people's views on feminism. I also write as a hobby in my spare time, so this is something which I knew I had t be a part of. More and more these days, I'm seeing more people announcing themselves as feminists and it's beautiful and so exciting to be a part of. :)
All the best.

Hello Camila and welcome to the group! I am very excited to go on this journey with you and our other sisters (and brothers) are reading!! :)

My name is Lana and I am from the US! I'm almost 17 years old and SO excited to join this book club and learn more about something I so strongly believe in. I admire Sophia Bush and Emma Watson so much for their unending activism and their constant grace as they change the world for the better. I already see myself as a strong feminist, so I hope these books teach me even more about the subject and how I can enact a change for my own generation and future generations as well. I am so thrilled to immerse myself in this literature and discuss it with like-minded people who share my own goals!

Hi everyone! My name is Lynaea (super hard to pronounce I know, but just as if it was Linnéa haha). Anyways, I'm from British Columbia, Canada (pleasantly surprised to see so ..."
Hey! I am also in my last year of the IB Diploma Program. My name is Zoe, and I'm 17 years old and from Vancouver, WA, U.S.

I'm joining the book club because I want to learn more. A lifelong voracious learner and reader, this book club sounds amazing to me. I also know that as an educator, when I learn more, I share that knowledge with others.

My name is Hannah and I am 22 year old, from Scotland.
I wrote a dissertation last year focussing on Walt Disney animated films (specifically Cinderlla, Beauty and the Beast and Frozen) and their female protagonists and their music. I had to do some fair research and topic of women in fiction, movie or book, and it has got me very intrigued and I would like to pursue further study in it.
Entertainment has a huge effect on our cultures and societies and it is the portrayal of women through these means that I believe has a significant effect on how we, women, view ourselves.
Peace oot! X
