Introduction

I have joined this group to increase my insight of feminism and society with the hope of fueling discussions around the dinner table.
I really am looking forward to the discussions and views of this tremendous group.

Thanks to Emma Watson for starting this club

My name is Grace. I've just turned 24, and I'm from the US of A.
I joined the book club for two reasons. First, because I'm encouraging myself to read more now that I'm done with school. I used to read all the time when I was younger, and I want to bring back that little bit of joy in my life. Second, because I really want to educate myself more on feminism. I consider myself a feminist, but I think you can never stop learning about topics you're interested in.
I'm really excited to take this journey with others who have the same interests in mind. I'm looking forward to talking with you all in the forums going forward!

And of course, to read more books!
hi everyone! I'm Melanie, 16 from the Netherlands. I've been wanting to read more feminist books for a while now, and when Emma started this topic I realised that this is the perfect opportunity to start and discuss the books with other passionate feminists. I'm very excited to start the first boom

I love reading and consider myself a feminist so when I heard about the book club I thought what a great opportunity to get involved in two things I love.
Crystal, love the Eurythmics quote above. Think it suits this group perfectly.

My name is Erin, and I'm a 32 year old veterinarian living in Washington state, US. The more I read and learn, the more I want to know about feminism and the world. I'm eager to continue this journey!
Happy reading!

!!!!Ps:I need your help

My name is Ana Paula. I'm from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I'm 21. I joined this book club because I love reading books and also because I've always wanted to share my thoughts about them in a real book club.
I've been thinking a lot about equality and I think this book club can help me to learn more. I'm really excited!

I'm Chingting Tseng.I'm from Taiwan.I really want to get different kinds of knowledges and try to read more books. This is an absolutely excellent group to let us join it.I believe if we get more knowledges,we will learn more about truly ourselves and have different thoughts about this world.Hope everybody could accomplish what you really want to do.
I'm still trying to improve my English ability,so hope you guys could understand what I really want to express.

I join this book-blub because first, reading is my favorite thing in the wolrd, I read everything (I'm in the Litteraure spinneret of my high school so it may be normal) and secondly, I'm particulary touched by the feminist cause. I want to fight for it since I cannot remember and I read as much books, essay etc about this subject as possible because it inspires me so much and I can proudly say that it is THE cause that I want to fight for from now to long years to come.
Also, I am honored to be part of this project of book-clubing and discussing with you about the movement and the books linked to it.
:)

I've been an avid feminist for years now, constantly promoting the equality needed between men and women in all parts of the world. I do as much reading and research as I can and am contributing personally to my local community, one of easy access being school, by providing a friendly reminder that equality is needed and humans are united through life not spectrum of gender.

My name is Caitlyn Reid and I am 14.
I am a huge fan of Emma and everything she stands for. I love how much effort she puts into her acting and he for she. I'm so glad she made this group and I'm looking forward to what will come out of it in the future and now. Love you all!!!

I'm Lauren, I'm 26 and from England. It's really exciting to see how far this group has spread already.
I'm looking forward to exploring such a diverse range of views and ideas.
It's exciting to think that between us world change is possible. X

I'm here because I grew up with all those ideas of how it is to be a woman, how a man must be and how to approach "the different" that only a catholic old belives society can teach you.
But I'm not that kind of person and I don't want to be one either. That world suffocates me. I joined this group - as well as others - to help my changing perspective.
Thanks Emma xx
ps: are there other people from Italy?

Now 'bout me. My name is Levan(u may not be familiar with the name, to guess my gender, but I won't write it, since it doesn't matter does it?, its a group for gender equality :D ) I'm from the republic of Georgia and I'm 17. A year 'till I finish high school and go with my future studies.
It's really good that this kind of groups exist, since it increases people's awareness of the current gender inequality problem, which is really severe(a week ago I was doing some memory trick stuff and I needed to come up with male and female politicians; while there were like mor than 30 male politicians being blurred in my head, I weren't even able to come up with 10 female ones.)
I think the main solution for this problem is giving a good education to the members of both gender. And from my view point this group serves the same purpose too, which is brilliant!!!!

I join this club because, first of all, I love reading, I don't remember my life without a book in my hands. Feminism has also played a great part in my life and I believe that by joining this club I will be able to expand my knowledge about the subject and I am really looking forward to meeting amazing people as passionate as I am about those two matters: reading and feminism!
I will add my comment about Debera as a reply to her own introduction :)

Hi Debera! I'm Elisa, I introduced myself in this forum right after you did so I'm supposed to make a comment about your introduction!
I admire you so much for working in the adult literacy field, I believe it is such a passionate and dedicated field. (Sorry if my English grammar has some mistakes, I am from Spain so English is not my native language!).
I hope we all have a great time in this book club :).

My name is Mirella, I'm 19 years old girl from Finland.
I love reading but nowadays I'm pretty busy so reading for 'just for fun' is pretty rare. Hopefully this group will help me to read also other books also instead of only school books. I really want to enjoy reading again. :D
Thank you already and I'm very sorry about my bad English. X

I love reading and I want lo keep learning more and more about Feminism, which is a very important matter for me, so I found this book club a fascinating idea, since we can all learn from each other in here and meet new people as well as discover new interesting feminist readings.
The thing I like most about this post is, speacially, the amount of (very) young people there are in here. I mean, it's amazing that they start dealing with these concepts at an early age, for the future generations will be better prepared for fighting for their rights. Also, it'll be fantastic to learn from adult people who have been dealing with this for a while, and those who work in this field. I'm looking forward to read everyone's ideas!
Emma can be very proud for having drawn Feminism to many people who, maybe, were afraid of the term or not very familiar with it. Thank you so much for your work, and keep doing it so well!

My name is Megan and I'm 17 years old. I'm from the US (Minnesota). I joined this book club because I am a huge fan of Emma's and a proud feminist. I love Harry Potter and admire Emma for all the of work she's done for gender equality in the UN. I would like to learn even more about feminism and how to close the gap between men and women. I love reading as well so I am very excited for this group!

My name is Charlotte and I am from the Netherlands.
I´m 18 years old.
My interest in feminism has been growing a lot in the past 2 years and I like reading! So this is a great combination of 2 interests I have!
I´m hoping to learn a lot here and use it in the future to inspire the next generation, since I´m planning on becoming a religion teacher. I´m going to college for it at the moment.
Emma Watson is, together with Malala Yousafzai, one of the people I see as a great example for my future(and current) self.

I'm Jayce, 16 years old, from the U.S. state of Georgia. I joined this book club because, after I watched Emma's UN speech back in 2014, I noticed that some of my friends live under the impression that men are superior to women. I hope to learn a thing or two from the books we read that might help me show my friends why we all should support gender equality.
Looking forward to "My Life on the Road."

I am a mom of 3-year-old lovely daughter and always want to share a 'better' world for women with my girl.
I believe my dream can be started from various reading and very thrilled to find this group!!
Look forward to share many good books & discussions with all of you
and many thanks, Ms. Watson!

Keeping the conversation alive and vibrant is important to me. My personal philosophy has been inclusion and equity, though I am challenged by the use of the word "feminist" to define it. We are all different. That is part of the richness and intrigue of life. I think the point in being feminist is to focus on the common ground, to realize we are more alike than different. Basing judgments solely on gender the wrongness we all face.

My name is Anne, I'm 23 years old and am working as a journalist in New York City.
As most of the people in this group I love to read too. Unfortunately, I don't usually have time to read as much as I would like, so one of my resolutions this year is to read more (35 books for 2016?!)
I think that a book club about feminism is a wonderful idea. Reading other women's stories is the only way we'll truly understand what each and every one of us has gone through and is currently going through. It makes me so angry to think that something as simple as equal pay in the work force isn't a thing, or that I think twice about wearing a short skirt for fear of being uncomfortably hit on as I walk to the subway.
Only through knowledge can we change the world.
Thank you Emma for putting this together! =)

I joined the book club cause i want to learn more about feminism and read books about it, share my opnions with other women.

Hiya! My name is Ana, and I'm a 26 y.o. Spanish girl! I discovered this whole initiative thanks to another openly feminist girlfriend of mine. Although I have been lucky enough to be raised in a loving, open-minded family where gender equality values were a given, the word 'feminism' was never really used and so I would not have defined myself as one until a few years ago, when for some reason I started to become more aware of this whole field. I am not sure whether I will be able to keep the pace with y'all, people, but I sure am glad to keep making progress in my study of feminism and overall educating myself!

My name is Hélène, I'm french (from France) but I live in Québec, Canada where I'm studying engineering and IT. Since English is not exactly my mother tongue, I'll do my best !
(But sometimes, I might try to look for translations of the book. Maybe we can open a topic about that ?)
I found this idea of club book awesome because I decided that this year, I should read more, like I used to do (before studies and social life, haha). I always have been a feminist but I used to not know it. :)
It's only when I start reading excellent articles about it online that I was able to put words on things and understand feminisim better. So I'm always eager to learn about it !
(And I'm also a huge fan of Emma Watson, more and more with time. Her work at the UN is incredible ! So, I trust her fully to choose the best book ever on the topic.)

I joined this group because I love to read. I've always been on the look out for a good book. I received a kindle last Christmas (yey!) This group will be an avenue to learn new things/ insight to others opinions.
And I'm a huge fan of Ms Watson. I think she's the embodiment of a kick a$$ woman! Thanks for creating this group. I know you (Emma) might not be able to reply in every single forum but I look forward to reading your posts, as will everyone else in here I bet! May the force be with you always! ^_^

I started to read at age 3, and it became my passion! Reading helps me to relax, increase my vocabulary and be a better writer.
I look forward to discuss about many subjects with you all! :)

I used to read so much in school, and I've found that I get too easily distracted now as a working adult. So, I'm hoping having some structure will help me refocus on something that I've always loved.
I've dabbled in feminist literature, so I'm very excited to really give it my full attention and kind of sort out my reasoning for believing in the things I believe in.

I love and enjoy reading. Though I haven't read books in this field before, I'm glad to join this group and eager to learn some new things from everyone!

I joined because I've been learning about feminism for a few years now (though more from discussions/other people/internet) but am still looking to expand my knowledge and read more great books.
I'd also really like to be part of the movement and to find a way to contribute.
I don't know if I'll really be able to participate especially in such a big group but that's an amazing idea, Emma's doing a great work
(Also there's an intersectionnality thread specified in the newcomer thread so... So far so good !)
Hi !

I signed up for this group because I love to read and find that reading is one of the best ways to learn about people. As I said I work with kids and teens and its my job to know who they are and understanding things like sexuality, gender, race, and all that is really the only way that that's going to happen. I'm also hoping to learn more about feminism and being a feminist as opposed to just throwing the word around.
