Jessica (tmristheday) Realised that I did not see an introduction post and thought it would be interesting to get to know everyone.

The rules are this:
1. Tell us some basic information about yourself eg your name, where you are from.
2. Share why you join this book club and what you hope to achieve
3. Comment on the post above yours to spread the love!

I will start first!

Hi all! I am Jessica, a 25 years old female from Singapore.

I am a huge fan of Emma Watson and admire her so much for her work with the UN. Equality is a cause close to my heart and I hope to do my part for it.

I love to read. Reading helps me to learn more about the world. It is my first resource whenever I want to know something. Hence, this book club is right up my alley! I hope that this twelve months of reading would help me to learn more about feminism and find out how I can play my part.

Nice to meet all of you and I look forward to more discussion with all of you :)

message 2: by Erin (new)

Erin Hi Jessica, it's great to meet you! I've never been to Singapore.

My name is Erin, and my birthday is Tuesday! I'll be 39.

I joined the group because I am getting ready to graduate with my MA in English, and I have noticed that all throughout college, I have paid particular interest to the women in the literature I was reading. I've read some great books that were enhanced by taking a feminist perspective at analyzing them and I'm hoping to gain even more perspective by reading some things I might not have been exposed to otherwise.

message 3: by Meghan (new)

Meghan (meghankm) | 1 comments Hello everyone!

I'm Meghan, 22 years old, and I'm from Canada.

I joined this book club because I love reading and discussing what I've read, and I also consider myself a feminist. A feminist book club sounds like just my thing!

I want to thank Emma for putting this together, and I'm so excited to start on our first book!

message 4: by Sowmya (new)

Sowmya Sundaram | 2 comments Hi all!

My name is Sowmya. I'm from India. I'm 24 years old. As for my work, I am a PhD research scholar.

I'm a feminist and I love reading. I have a lot of ideas about feminism and the need for equality. I thought it would be interesting to see how my ideas tally with those around the world. Also, I'm always on the lookout for how I can practically help other women.

So let's start our wonderful journey :)

message 5: by Denise (new)

Denise | 1 comments Hi there! My name is Denise and I'm from Canada. I've been a huge fan of Emma since the first Harry Potter movie and admire her so much for her work with the UN.
I'm a huge bookworm. I can never go a day without reading, and I'm hoping this group will introduce me to books I wouldn't normally pull off the shelf (I read almost exclusively fantasy). I'm excited!

message 6: by Phyncke (new)

Phyncke | 8 comments Hey everyone - Jane here from Berkeley, CA. I am 50 years old and very excited about this book group. I have lived in California for 21 years and work in event planning for a major university. I have very eclectic reading tastes but look forward to reading feminist writings.

message 8: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Bailey | 1 comments I'm Kelly, and I'm from the US. Hoping to get my daughter to join the club. I love to read, but I don't do enough of it. I think that Emma Watson is an amazing young woman, so even if I don't get to finish the book, I'd like to see what she's got to say.

message 9: by mary (new)

mary (housepotter) | 3 comments Hi, my name is Maryan but I'm called Mary for short. I'm 21 and from California (USA), currently in my 4th year of university.

I am a massive fan of Emma and all that she does, so I had to join her club the instant she announced it. I'm a strong believer in equality for all, regardless of what your identity is, and I love that Emma advocates for the same belief.

I love reading so much and have been wanting to expand the books I read to be more inclusive of stories that illustrate the messages I believe in! It's something I have wanted to do for a while and this will help me get started and keep track of it.

I can't wait to be active and to be part of this group. Glad to see it get traction so fast. :) it will be lots of fun and a great way to continuously learn.

With this I hope to read lots of books from a diverse crowd of authors, and to have some great discussions about them!

hillary (anunderlyingholy) Hello everyone! My name is Hillary. I'm 22 years old and currently living in Toronto, Canada. I'm originally from Vancouver but I moved out here for work as a writer. I joined this club because one of my New Year's resolutions is to read more books. Once I learned about this book club I knew I had to join. Hopefully I stick with my goal and actually read the books. Nice to meet everyone!

message 16: by Isabela (new)

Isabela (isi13) Hi, everyone!

My name is Isabela and I'm from São Paulo, Brazil.

I'm very excited about this :)

message 17: by Lynaea (new)

Lynaea Filbey | 1 comments The rules are this:

Hi everyone! My name is Lynaea (super hard to pronounce I know, but just as if it was Linnéa haha). Anyways, I'm from British Columbia, Canada (pleasantly surprised to see so many Canadian's already in this chat!). I am in my final year of High school in the IB Diploma Program.

I joined this book club because I'm a proud feminist, and I absolutely adore how Emma has used her fame to help bring equality to all, so I really wanted to support her, all while discussing two things that are important to me (feminism and literature) with others. I also realized that last year I did not read nearly as much as I wish I had, so this seemed like a perfect way to start off my 2016!

So excited for this to get started!

Trishia (sothisistrishia) | 2 comments Hi everyone! :)

I'm Trishia, 23 years old, from the Philippines. I joined this book club because I wanted to start reading more books this year. Ever since I started working, I haven't been able to read that much (and I'm lagging behind my to-read list) so I think this would help me with achieving that goal. Hopefully.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and learn about books, literature, and lots of other things from you. :)

message 24: by Mariah (new)

Mariah Mathusek (mariahmathusek) | 4 comments Hi everyone! So fun reading everyone's stories about why they're here and what they hope to accomplish!

I'm Mariah! I'm 24 and live in Chicago, IL.

I'm always always always looking for new books to read. I'll read just about anything, but brownie points if it's something inspirational, moving, and makes me cry (I cry very easily and a lot). When I heard Emma was starting a feminist book club, I was thrilled. What's better than reading content filled with ideals and beliefs that I'm so incredibly passionate about?! And to top it all off, getting to share this on such a grand scale with so many amazing women! I can't wait for the fun that surely lies ahead!

message 25: by Meredith (new)

message 26: by Romy (new)

message 28: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Hutchcraft | 1 comments Hi, I'm Sarah.

I'm 24 and I live in Austin, TX.

Reading is one of my passions, like poetry and writing. With two young daughters I tend to start books and not finish them but my goal is to read through each of these books and join in the discussion of these wonderful topics. Also, I'd like to be able to share things with my daughters about feminism so they understand why Mommy gets so riled up about certain things!

message 29: by Jack (new)

Jack Hagler | 2 comments Hi everyone!
thanks for starting this introduction section.
I'm Jack Harbeson Hagler, I'm 20 years old, and I am a Social Activist studying Public Relations at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia, USA.
I've been an Emma Watson fan for a long time, and I'm am advocate for social justice, so needless to say I am a feminist. I'm excited to push the envelope and challenge myself with materials that come through the book club.

message 30: by Rhiannon (new)

Rhiannon | 9 comments I know the rules said to comment on the post prior to mine, but honestly I cannot keep up with this flood of replies (which is a good thing)! So instead I shall say, you all seem like loving well meaning people and I'm glad to be in this community of readers interested in learning more about feminism.

My name is Rhiannon, and I'm nearly 20 years old and in college in the USA. I go to an all women's college so I'm surrounded by feminist literature so hopefully it won't be terribly difficult for me to acquire the books! ;)

I joined the club because one of the things I'd been hunting for on Goodreads was a club just like this - devoted to feminist readings! I'm excited, albeit a little anxious about trying to read so much during my studies, but anything worth doing makes you a little nervous right?

message 31: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Hansen (onlybyhisgrace) | 2 comments Hi All!!

I thought this would be a great place to get to know people and discuss important topics.

My name is Nancy, I am 52 (finally playing with a full deck), I am a mother to 14, grandmother to 9, I believe that feminism is all about doing what you love and what you are able to do... no boxes of any sort wanted.

Looking forward to many discussions.

message 32: by Alexx (last edited Jan 07, 2016 07:27PM) (new)

Alexx | 5 comments Wow so many comments already! Hi I'm Alexx, I'm from the United States (Florida).
I'm currently 19 years old and I've joined this group because of my passions for reading, feminism, and Emma Watson!
I have many friends that really don't understand my need to be a feminist or throw jokes around about me being a feminazi.
I'm really looking forward to this community and being able to talk freely to others about equality and to have educated conversations about books. I can't wait! :)

message 33: by Jessica (new)

message 34: by Debb (new)

Debb Adams Hi! My name is Debb and I'm a 44 year old Middle School Theatre Teacher in Lexington, South Carolina, USA.

I've always been an avid reader and strive to inspire my students to be--so much so that I need some book discussion with folks older than 13! :) (I would not give up the early-adolescent discussions for anything, though.) I am also striving to be a good feminist role model for all of my students.

I also want to hear thoughts and perspectives from people in places other than in my little patch of North America. I'm so excited to see not only people from all of the USA, but all from Germany (Lana right above my post), Singapore, South Africa, Canada, and I'm sure there will be more! So exciting!

message 35: by Raymond (new)

Raymond Dean | 1 comments Look at all this love!

Well my name is Raymond and I'm. Cisgender gay male. I've focused my studies on gender and sexual identity and have always wanted to see and hear more of the current topics of discussion in feminism and see others points of view on it.

Lovely opportunity as well with so much coverage via Emma. It's awesome to see the internet working for you rather then spreading things against you. Much love from Seattle WA.

message 36: by Julia (new)

Julia Alvares Hi there! My name is Julia, I'm 21 and I'm from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

I consider myself a feminist, but I realized I haven't read anything about feminism theory, nor have I read any books about feminism and gender equality. I thought this book club would be a nice place to start reading on those topics. I'm also excited to read more works written by women!

It's really nice to meet you all! Also, thank you, Emma, for creating such a wonderful environment for everyone to learn together.

Happy reading, everyone! x

I'm from Palm Beach, Florida and I'm an English/Creative Writing major attempting to write a novel. message 43: by Deepthy (new)

Deepthy (devilishdeepz) | 1 comments Hey everyone,

Wow, so many diverse backgrounds and so many interesting people already! This is going to be awesome :)

I'm Deepthy, 26 years old from India. I joined this group because I love reading anything and everything, write a lot as well and love to meet and discuss new ideas and topics with people.

I've seen a lot of gender inequality and incorrect perceptions during my travels around the world (and I really, really love to travel everywhere as well) and I'm hoping to learn more from the books I read and the people I meet here to change the world we live in..... one small bit at a time :)

message 44: by Gladyfaith (new)

Gladyfaith | 3 comments Hello, everyone! It's wonderful to meet you all!

My name is Gladyfaith. I was born in the Philippines and raised in a desert town in Arizona.

Over the past few years my interest in learning more about feminism and intersectionality has been growing, and this book club seems like a perfect opportunity to achieve that. After getting a degree in illustration, I've been thinking about storytelling, underrepresented voices, and ways we can pave easier paths for those voices to be heard. I don't have any answers yet, but I know I'll certainly grow from the shared experiences in this group.

message 45: by Crystal (last edited Jan 07, 2016 07:28PM) (new)

Crystal Ramirez | 1 comments My name is Crystal Ramirez. I live in the heart of the city; Manhattan, New York. I am joining this book club because as a sophomore college student I registered for a couple of women studies classes and was introduced to the feminist view and found it remarkable. This topic is of utmost importance to me - equality is something we should all become involved in. It is an important topic to shed light on and teach our younger generations.

The history of feminism is incredibly interesting to me. I loved learning about the societies that women had in the past and how they grew in number. Each step made by the strength of women in the past has put us in the position we are in today. Without our past leaders we could not have made future leaders and this is why I am apart of Emma Watson's inspirational club!

bell hooks is my FAVORITE writer ever! she was truly amazing. I am so delighted to see EMMA MET HER! Congrats.

message 46: by Christine (new)

Christine Bingham My name is Christine, and I am a 36 year old living in Nashville, Tennessee. I didn't consider myself a feminist until I found myself constantly having to explain the experiences of women to my male boss in a commercial construction company. I have encountered a lot of reasons to be more vocal not just about equality but also about our differences and how those differences shape us. I look forward to reading about others' perspectives!
