Introduction

My name is Erin, and my birthday is Tuesday! I'll be 39.
I joined the group because I am getting ready to graduate with my MA in English, and I have noticed that all throughout college, I have paid particular interest to the women in the literature I was reading. I've read some great books that were enhanced by taking a feminist perspective at analyzing them and I'm hoping to gain even more perspective by reading some things I might not have been exposed to otherwise.

I'm Meghan, 22 years old, and I'm from Canada.
I joined this book club because I love reading and discussing what I've read, and I also consider myself a feminist. A feminist book club sounds like just my thing!
I want to thank Emma for putting this together, and I'm so excited to start on our first book!

My name is Sowmya. I'm from India. I'm 24 years old. As for my work, I am a PhD research scholar.
I'm a feminist and I love reading. I have a lot of ideas about feminism and the need for equality. I thought it would be interesting to see how my ideas tally with those around the world. Also, I'm always on the lookout for how I can practically help other women.
So let's start our wonderful journey :)

I'm a huge bookworm. I can never go a day without reading, and I'm hoping this group will introduce me to books I wouldn't normally pull off the shelf (I read almost exclusively fantasy). I'm excited!

I am happy to join this book group and look forward to participating. Thanks to Emma for starting this!

My name is Diana. I am from the United States and I am 20 years old. I'm a huge fan of Emma and I really want to make it a goal to start reading more. In addition, I hope to learn more about feminism by reading these books that Emma will recommend.
Nice to meet all of you! :)

I am a massive fan of Emma and all that she does, so I had to join her club the instant she announced it. I'm a strong believer in equality for all, regardless of what your identity is, and I love that Emma advocates for the same belief.
I love reading so much and have been wanting to expand the books I read to be more inclusive of stories that illustrate the messages I believe in! It's something I have wanted to do for a while and this will help me get started and keep track of it.
I can't wait to be active and to be part of this group. Glad to see it get traction so fast. :) it will be lots of fun and a great way to continuously learn.

My name is Georgia, I'm almost 23 and I live in Melbourne Australia.
Equality is a cause I am very passionate about! I also love to read! So when I saw this pop up in my news feed I had to join. I can't wait to be able to expand my knowledge and understanding of feminism and to be able to share it with everyone involved.
I'm heading out to get the first book right now :)
Happy reading!

SO excited about this book club/all these books! My name's Nicole and I'm from Cape Town, South Africa.
I'm constantly in awe of feminist talkers, the ones I have watched thus far in my life, and getting involved in the world of feminist writing and books sounds exactly like the kind of journey I should be on in 2016.
All the best, everyone. And thanks, Emma! X

I'm Jayashree, 23 years old, and I'm from Singapore.
I've always considered myself a feminist, and am very eager to discuss ideas about the same! Also, am a huge bookworm, and reading excites me like nothing else. :)
Cheers!

I was so excited to find out about this book club, as I've been wanting to get into some more feminist-y stuff for a while now.
With this I hope to read lots of books from a diverse crowd of authors, and to have some great discussions about them!

My name is Isabela and I'm from São Paulo, Brazil.
One of my biggest resolutions for 2016 (and the next years to come) is to learn more about feminism, and joining the club seems the perfect way to achieve that.
I'm very excited about this :)

Hi everyone! My name is Lynaea (super hard to pronounce I know, but just as if it was Linnéa haha). Anyways, I'm from British Columbia, Canada (pleasantly surprised to see so many Canadian's already in this chat!). I am in my final year of High school in the IB Diploma Program.
I joined this book club because I'm a proud feminist, and I absolutely adore how Emma has used her fame to help bring equality to all, so I really wanted to support her, all while discussing two things that are important to me (feminism and literature) with others. I also realized that last year I did not read nearly as much as I wish I had, so this seemed like a perfect way to start off my 2016!
So excited for this to get started!

I'm Kach Gatdula, 21 years old and from Manila, Philippines.
Like Jessica, I'm a fan of Emma Watson's and her work for the UN has truly inspired me. I joined this book club because I want to learn more about feminism and equality. I know that there's more that I could learn regarding this topic, not just through the literary works we'll be reading but also through the insights of the people joining this club.

My name is Alex, I am 24 years old and live in Brisbane, Australia.
I am a social worker and therefore very passionate about social justice and human rights. Looking forward to reading these books alongside everyone and discussing issues (and hopefully triumphs) from various cultures and societies using a feminist perspective.

I joined this groups because, like everyone else here, I am a huge fan of Emma Watson-- especially all the work she is doing with the UN and HeForShe Campaign.
I also am a huge reader and am always looking for new books to fall in love with.
Happy reading all!

27 y.o russian, living in Germany. I ve been searching for a good feminist read suggestions for long time, and im happy that i found this club. I hope i will learn alot new with you all and Emma.

I'm excited to hear everyone's opinions and I'm open minded to new ways of thinking. Can't wait!

I'm Trishia, 23 years old, from the Philippines. I joined this book club because I wanted to start reading more books this year. Ever since I started working, I haven't been able to read that much (and I'm lagging behind my to-read list) so I think this would help me with achieving that goal. Hopefully.
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and learn about books, literature, and lots of other things from you. :)

I'm Mariah! I'm 24 and live in Chicago, IL.
I'm always always always looking for new books to read. I'll read just about anything, but brownie points if it's something inspirational, moving, and makes me cry (I cry very easily and a lot). When I heard Emma was starting a feminist book club, I was thrilled. What's better than reading content filled with ideals and beliefs that I'm so incredibly passionate about?! And to top it all off, getting to share this on such a grand scale with so many amazing women! I can't wait for the fun that surely lies ahead!

I'm Meredith. I'm 26 and I live in Northern California. I'm excited to have an opportunity to broaden my horizons and my understanding of feminism and all its meanings and applications. I look forward to having some thoughtful discussions with like-minded individuals on the themes of feminism and equality.
So nice to meet everyone and see where you're from! The world is truly a much smaller place with the help of the internet. :)

I'm Romy, I'm from Canada (South Africa, originally), and I am 16 years old.
I joined this because I've always been a huge fan of both Emma and Harry Potter! I love reading, and I hope to broaden my perspective on feminism, society, and gender via this book club.
I'm in complete awe of feminist presenters, scholars, and writers, and I aspire to learn from them! I'm incredibly excited and can't wait to start reading!
It's wonderful to meet all of you, and thanks to Emma for organising this!

I'm 24 and I live in Austin, TX.
Reading is one of my passions, like poetry and writing. With two young daughters I tend to start books and not finish them but my goal is to read through each of these books and join in the discussion of these wonderful topics. Also, I'd like to be able to share things with my daughters about feminism so they understand why Mommy gets so riled up about certain things!

thanks for starting this introduction section.
I'm Jack Harbeson Hagler, I'm 20 years old, and I am a Social Activist studying Public Relations at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia, USA.
I've been an Emma Watson fan for a long time, and I'm am advocate for social justice, so needless to say I am a feminist. I'm excited to push the envelope and challenge myself with materials that come through the book club.

My name is Rhiannon, and I'm nearly 20 years old and in college in the USA. I go to an all women's college so I'm surrounded by feminist literature so hopefully it won't be terribly difficult for me to acquire the books! ;)
I joined the club because one of the things I'd been hunting for on Goodreads was a club just like this - devoted to feminist readings! I'm excited, albeit a little anxious about trying to read so much during my studies, but anything worth doing makes you a little nervous right?

I thought this would be a great place to get to know people and discuss important topics.
My name is Nancy, I am 52 (finally playing with a full deck), I am a mother to 14, grandmother to 9, I believe that feminism is all about doing what you love and what you are able to do... no boxes of any sort wanted.
Looking forward to many discussions.

I'm currently 19 years old and I've joined this group because of my passions for reading, feminism, and Emma Watson!
I have many friends that really don't understand my need to be a feminist or throw jokes around about me being a feminazi.
I'm really looking forward to this community and being able to talk freely to others about equality and to have educated conversations about books. I can't wait! :)

I've always been an avid reader and strive to inspire my students to be--so much so that I need some book discussion with folks older than 13! :) (I would not give up the early-adolescent discussions for anything, though.) I am also striving to be a good feminist role model for all of my students.
I also want to hear thoughts and perspectives from people in places other than in my little patch of North America. I'm so excited to see not only people from all of the USA, but all from Germany (Lana right above my post), Singapore, South Africa, Canada, and I'm sure there will be more! So exciting!

Well my name is Raymond and I'm. Cisgender gay male. I've focused my studies on gender and sexual identity and have always wanted to see and hear more of the current topics of discussion in feminism and see others points of view on it.
Lovely opportunity as well with so much coverage via Emma. It's awesome to see the internet working for you rather then spreading things against you. Much love from Seattle WA.

I consider myself a feminist, but I realized I haven't read anything about feminism theory, nor have I read any books about feminism and gender equality. I thought this book club would be a nice place to start reading on those topics. I'm also excited to read more works written by women!
It's really nice to meet you all! Also, thank you, Emma, for creating such a wonderful environment for everyone to learn together.
Happy reading, everyone! x

I joined this because it seemed like the perfect combination of things I love - books, feminism, Emma Watson, and lots of amazing new people!

I Am Pauline, 18 years old, an engineering student from the Philippines.
I joined this group because I love reading, it's like a breather after all the stress I get from studying engineering. And I love Emma Watson and her work with UN.
Looking forward to great discussions that will be done by this community. :)

I'm from Palm Beach, Florida and I'm an English/Creative Writing major attempting to write a novel. I joined this bookclub because I've always wanted to join one and I can not think of a better first choice than to join a club brought about by someone I so admire. I'm a serial reader and I'm really looking forward to reading and discussing with you!

Wow, so many diverse backgrounds and so many interesting people already! This is going to be awesome :)
I'm Deepthy, 26 years old from India. I joined this group because I love reading anything and everything, write a lot as well and love to meet and discuss new ideas and topics with people.
I've seen a lot of gender inequality and incorrect perceptions during my travels around the world (and I really, really love to travel everywhere as well) and I'm hoping to learn more from the books I read and the people I meet here to change the world we live in..... one small bit at a time :)

My name is Gladyfaith. I was born in the Philippines and raised in a desert town in Arizona.
Over the past few years my interest in learning more about feminism and intersectionality has been growing, and this book club seems like a perfect opportunity to achieve that. After getting a degree in illustration, I've been thinking about storytelling, underrepresented voices, and ways we can pave easier paths for those voices to be heard. I don't have any answers yet, but I know I'll certainly grow from the shared experiences in this group.

The history of feminism is incredibly interesting to me. I loved learning about the societies that women had in the past and how they grew in number. Each step made by the strength of women in the past has put us in the position we are in today. Without our past leaders we could not have made future leaders and this is why I am apart of Emma Watson's inspirational club!
bell hooks is my FAVORITE writer ever! she was truly amazing. I am so delighted to see EMMA MET HER! Congrats.
"Sisters are doing it for themselves." - Eurythmics

I'm hoping to pick up my old reading habit. Looking forward to months of discovering new books. Emma's library should be quite interesting!

I am Amy and from the Denver, CO area. I am interested in reading more about empowered women. Looking forward to the selections.

Passionate about reading, music, art, people and our planet. Joined because I wanted to part of a strong, like-minded group and to gain more knowledge.
Looking forward to learning, growing and laughing with you all!

Hi all! I am Jessica, a 25 years old female from Singapore.
I am a huge fan of Emma Watson and admire her so much for her work with the UN. Equality is a cause close to my heart and I hope to do my part for it.
I love to read. Reading helps me to learn more about the world. It is my first resource whenever I want to know something. Hence, this book club is right up my alley! I hope that this twelve months of reading would help me to learn more about feminism and find out how I can play my part.
Nice to meet all of you and I look forward to more discussion with all of you :)
