The 39 Steps

The Day of the Jackal

The Pelican Brief

Probably The Constant Gardener - I can only remember the vaguest plot outlines but I think a pharmaceutical company is chasing the protagonist. (?)

Peter Meilinger | 469 comments Put-near anything by Dean Koontz would fit the bill. Half of his protagonists end up running from some secret evil agency or other, usually part of the US government. My favorite examples include:

Twilight Eyes, in which a young man with the power to see the evil beings who hide in human form is on the run after killing one of them to save his family. He ends up with a traveling carnival full of people with secrets of their own.

Watchers is about a man who finds an impossibly intelligent dog who turns out to have escaped from a government lab. They're pursued by both government agents and the other, far more monstrous experiment that also escaped.

Lightning is about a woman whose life is saved several times over the years, starting when she's a child. Her savior is a man who is always the same age. They end up running from a group of killers who can anticipate their every move.

The Talisman, Firestarter, The Stand, are three that come to mind.

Though as many, if not more, relate to being trapped by evil force/government/power-hungry corporation ...

Sci fi series Lords of the Middle Dark is the first book in the series.

Again, sci fi and by the same author as above. When the Changewinds Blow

The Crystal Gryphon this is part of an interlocking series that is part of a much bigger series. (It's part of the High Halleck series from the Witch World series. can be read as a stand alone series or as part of the entire world. Some of the books are "on the run" from various powers/people, others are just fights again "evil" But thought I'd toss the entire series out for you to check out.)
