Hoping to complete Night Shift today. It's an easy read by the author of the Sookie Stackhouse series. I recently started Quiet Neighbors. Intriguing so far.
I like the first RIFTWAR series with "Magician".I have also read the "Daughter of the empire " series
I'm trying to decide which of the other series by Feist to read.
Finished Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight last night -- a real gem. Have started her next book, Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness, which looks equally promising.
Catching up on my reviews for the last few weeks. The highlight was The Guns of Empire, that series continues to be fantastic.
Fight Club - Review
The Guns of Empire - Review
The Last Wish - Review
Finished Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness and Leaving Before the Rains Come, both excellent. Now halfway through The Best Short Stories of J.G. Ballard, fantastic.
Sarah Anne wrote: "Leaving Before the Rains Come looks really good."It was excellent. I do recommend reading the other two first, because it gives you more context for this one.
Well, it seems that I'm slowly getting my reading mood back and I'm currently reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two, which is what I expected it to be, meaning not that good.
Currently reading The Lathe of Heaven. I'm about half way through it and it has been fantastic so far.
Johan wrote: "Currently reading The Lathe of Heaven. I'm about half way through it and it has been fantastic so far."I liked that one Johan - some fascinating concepts & ideas
Michele wrote: "Bel Canto -- lovely but :;cries:: Now almost finished with Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight -- great fun, unsparing and unsentimental yet funny and sweet and heartbrea..."I've heard many good things about Bel Canto Michele!
Finished The Best Short Stories of J.G. Ballard -- a truly superb collection apart from the last two which are just, well, weird. But the others are terrific. Many of the stories deal with time in various ways, which I really enjoyed, and/or with humanity's idiotic tendency to let its technology outpace its morality (or its intelligence). All in all an excellent collection. Now re-reading Duncton Wood for the first time in I don't know how long. I used to have a nice hardcover edition but years ago my ancient cat peed on it so I had to junk it, and had almost forgotten all about it. I ran across a paperback copy Saturday at the used bookstore and fell right in. Such a good story...
In late July, ahead of schedule, I finished The Aeronaut's Windlass. My August reads included Assassin's Apprentice, Ubik, and The Final Empire.
I am currently reading Little, Big.
Nice job, Chris! That's five off the bookshelf once Little, Big is done. You must be killing your challenge.
Sarah Anne wrote: "Nice job, Chris! That's five off the bookshelf once Little, Big is done. You must be killing your challenge."Thanks! :) I increased my goal once, from 24 to 32, but I think I will probably reach 36 club books read in 2016.
Little, Big may be challenging, but I will plow through it. I fear that it's one of those nothing-happens novels that seem to be tolerated (or even encouraged) in contemporary literary fiction.
I've just published a book myself, so over the past few months I've had little time for actual reading.I'm done now though, so I've resumed reading The Lies of Locke Lamora - which so far is excellent.
I am currently revisiting Assassin's Apprentice and my library Kindle hold just came through for Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?.

Congrats on publishing your book! I am also reading The Lies of Locke Lamora. I'm less than 100 pages in, but I'm really liking where it is going.
If you guys are interested there's going to be a discussion for The Lies of Locke Lamora with our 2016 Group Bookshelf Reading Calendar/Planning group next month. The discussion threads would normally go up on that thread on Sept 10th but I can put them up early if you guys want to comment. The Bookshelf Reading thread is dedicated to reading the books off of the group bookshelf and there are two books scheduled every month.
Chris wrote: "I am currently reading Little, Big..."Ah yes I remember being very drawn in by that one. What do you think??
"Little, Big" is definitely on my schedule of books to be read. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts
MadProfessah wrote: ""Little, Big" is definitely on my schedule of books to be read. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts"The Bookshelf thread is doing a read of that now. You'll see the threads pop up most likely. If you don't happen to see them, they're in the same thread that I mentioned in message 1084, three posts up.
Good for you, Phrynne!! You have 3 more books in the series to read and they are all excellent. I think Broken Eye is probably my favorite
I just finished The Devil's Alphabet by Daryl Gregory and started How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe: A Novel by Charles Yu.
Currently reading The Fifth Season
.I'm loving it so far and I think I'll be reading the sequel as soon as I can after I finish it.
I've been in hiding for a while, haven't found time to read much. I've been reading The Children of Men and The Big Nowhere but finding them very slow going. I just read Sphere yesterday and have started on Off to Be the Wizard. Then I'll get started on The Well of Ascension.

Kim wrote: "I've been in hiding for a while, haven't found time to read much. I've been reading The Children of Men..."What did you think of Children of Men? It is slower-paced than a lot of PA novels, as I recall, but the unusual premise drew me in and I found it pretty compelling.
The movie version is worth a watch, too. It's radically altered in certain key elements, so more like a different story on the same theme than an adaptation. Almost an art piece -- very striking visually and musically, as one might expect from Alfonso Cuarón, and the DVD version that we got also included some fascinating interviews with several European scholars, including an environmental researcher, a biologist, a sociologist and a philosopher.

I'm only 18% in so far and finding it incredibly slow going. Theo's narration keeps putting me to sleep. I have seen the movie and enjoyed it, it's what made me pick the book up.
I finished listening to The Obelisk Gate and really enjoyed it, though not quite as much as The Fifth Season. It's still a great series so far (My Review).
Rob wrote: "I finished listening to The Obelisk Gate and really enjoyed it, though not quite as much as The Fifth Season. It's still a great series so far (My Review)."I just started reading The Obelisk Gate right now! If its even half as good as The Fifth Season, I'll be happy.
I just finished Central Station by Lavie Tidhar. It's a so- so book for me. I love the concept and setting, but the characters and story left me flat.Next up is a new to me book: The World in Flames: A Black Boyhood in a White Supremacist Doomsday Cult by Jerald Walker.
I'm reading The Wolf Road
by Beth Lewis. Very interesting so far. Written in an unusual style. Easy to see the comparisons to True Grit.
I recently read The Library at Mount Char, Undermajordomo Minor, and Eating the Dinosaur. Now, I'm reading The Tommyknockers.
Silvana wrote: "Trying to finish The Gunslinger. So. Hard."Push through the first one (I didn't like it either) but make sure that you read The Drawing of the Three. It is where the real story starts.
I finished Sphere and have moved on to Royal Assassin. I was shocked to discover that it is almost double the length of the first book.
Valerie wrote: "I finished Sphere and have moved on to Royal Assassin. I was shocked to discover that it is almost double the length of the first book."The next one is even longer!
I finished The Crown Tower by Michael J. Sullivan. My review is here:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
