Firstly, thank you to the Jack Jordan, who asked me to read this book, approving me through Net Galley, thanks also to the publishers and Net Galley.
Firstly, I would like to say want a great potential from this great new young author.
A great talent at only 23 years old, with this his second novel.
Paige Dawson: the mother of a murdered child and wife to a dead man.
She has nothing left to live for… until she finds her husband’s handgun hidden in their house.
Why did Ryan need a gun? What did he know about their daughter’s death?
Desperate for the truth, Paige begins to unearth her husband’s secrets.
But she has no idea who she is up against, or that her life isn’t hers to gamble – she belongs to me.
A chilling, dark, shocking, frightening realistic thriller, that's grips you from the beginning.
Paige Dawson is a tormented woman. Her 14-year-old daughter, Chloe, was murdered 10 years ago. The only thing they found of her was an arm. Paige has been grieving ever since. And now her husband has committed suicide.
Spending her life drinking, what is happening to her life, why can she not remember things and why will police and friends not believe her, things are happening to her but is she guilty or is the drink affecting her more than she can believe.
Nasty shocks, chilling twists, a dark and disturbing reality that shocks you to the core.
A great quick read at 240 pages, especially for me as I read in two days, I just had to know where this book was going.
Great book and an easy four star book for me.
More to come from this author, I am sure!!
Reading two (after this weekend I have a life again!) :
The Soul-Drinker: And Other Decadent Fantasies by Jean Lorrain and Dark Passage, by David Goodis.

OMG this book was EXCELLENT... In my opinion the BEST JOHN HART BOOK!

He wasn't for me. I read The Black Dahlia but there was something about that made it unenjoyable to me..

He's a very in-your-face kind of writer, but I enjoy his work.

I've bailed on Ellroy books before. Some are excellent, though. I loved L.A. Confidential and The Black Dahlia.
Last night I did nothing but read and finished Dark Passage by David Goodis (1946). After I watch the film I'll be posting about it -- in the meantime, it's an amazing novel.
Started The Deadly Dowager, by Edwin Greenwood (1934, reprinted by Valancourt 2016). I'm only about 60 pages in, but the characters (and the twisted plot) are absolutely delightful.

I love the Lord Peter Wimsey books :)

It's not nearly as good as the Mickey Haller series by Connelly. I hope you do enjoy though. :-)

It's not nea..."
Yes kind of similar, but I agree Mickey Haller books are great (and probably better).

I've had kind of a difficult time with the Felix Francis books. I think my inclination to expect the equal to Dick Francis is irrational but seems as if I end up a bit disappointed when they are not. I think I would actually like FF books better if I didn't have the DF icon to compare to.

Just finished

I loved the simplicity of the plot and the author's writing. There was no extraneous material here (other than the constant descriptions of what everyone was wearing!) - just pure storyline.
Sarah and her husband, Dr Johnny MacDonald, have a wonderful life. They live in Johnny's lovely home, have great friends and good neighbours. But one night when Johnny is away at a conference Sarah is awoken by a loud explosion, and her nightmare begins......
As she picks up the pieces after the tragedy, Sarah discovers a shocking secret, one that will cause her to re-evaluate her whole life and the people she loves.
This is a great read, and I believe a first novel for this author. AJ Banner perfectly captures the uncertainty felt when one's world is tipped upside down and we just don't know who to trust anymore; when we don't even trust our own instincts.
I will be looking for more from AJ Banner.
Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for an ARC of the Good Neighbor in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

The editors should have caught grammar mistakes and typos. I tend to get annoyed when I see them in books from major publishers, who employ a lot of people to make sure that doesn't happen.

Landreaux Iron, an Ojibwe Indian, accidently kills his neighbor's son in a hunting accident. To atone - and in accordance with Indian customs - Landreaux and his wife give the grieving parents their own child. A story of grief, remorse, atonement, and healing. Good book. 4 stars.

Just finished Jim Thompson's "The Killer Inside Me".
Thompson is the godfather of American pulp. He peers into the mind and soul of criminality like no one else can. "Killer" is also an interesting look at Nowheresville, USA in the 1950s. On both counts, Thompson - a very modern writer - could set the same story in 2016 and it would work.
I have a review in GR and also a fuller one at my site:

I've noted quite a lot of errors lately myself and was curious if it's due to the new digital age?

It is good so far with some strong characters.

Oh thank goodness it's not just me!! This book Grace only comes into it about half way. The whole Sandy side issue just is nuts at this point. Book 12 I think! Growl :-(
