Janice (jamasc) | 60271 comments I also read The Sherlockian and discussed it in the group read thread.

I gave the book 3 stars, teetering on 4. I really enjoyed the parts set in the 1900's and giggled at the relationship between Arthur Conan Doyle and Bram Stoker. Moving on, I've purchased the The Complete Sherlock Holmes.

Sarah | 18550 comments It appears that book has inspired many to delve in to the books of Sherlock Holmes.

Joan I read The Sherlockian and I would like to THANK all the other people who commented in the discussion thread. Your comments increased my enjoyment of it. I gave it 2 stars - I liked the character development and it was pretty funny. I do wish the author stuck with writing a spoof. It made me think of movies like "The Sting" and "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"
my review

I also read Arthur & George I enjoyed that description of Arthur Conan Doyle much more.

Really enjoyed this month's challenge. Can't wait to see what's next.

Lara | 1426 comments I read Lumière and posted about it on the discussion thread. It's a YA steampunk that was much darker than I expected. The main issue I had with it was due to the teens' moodiness and impulsiveness. I also wasn't prepared for spending time in such a grim world.

Sam F | 246 comments I finished and discussed the book, Oryx and Crake. I agree with you Cherie - it was fun to read about the 'old' words. Some of which I didn't know :). I am truly looking forward to reading the other 2 books. I have read Atwood in the past, but such a long time ago. I may have to reread The Handmaid's Tale now too!

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I read Inamorata discussed it in general book thread for monthly read. 4 stars I was quite surprised by this one. If you need a book about painting for France this one works well. Actually fits a handful of geotasks. Surprisingly this was my second book by Megan Chance. This one was much better than the other one.

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments I read The Sherlockian and participated in the discussion thread.

I like the double plot lines, but the one developed about the past held the greatest interest for me. Although Harold White is an interesting character and the mystery surrounding Holmes's diary is interesting, I prefer the storyline about the past. I was delighted with the appearance of Bram Stoker and his witty interaction with Sherlock Holmes. I think this is my favorite part of the book. I also found it interesting that Doyle complained about Holmes and was relieved when Holmes was dead. Doyle could not understand the reaction of the public to the death of a fictional character. Doyle never explained why he abruptly resurrected Holmes years after his murder. The missing diary/journal might have the critical information about Doyle's thought process, making the present day murder mystery connection with Harold White and his quest for the diary and the killer using Holmes's techniques.

I gave the book 3 stars because it was of average interest to me. I liked it ok, but it dragged in places (the modern plot line). The repartee with Bram Stoker was my favorite.

Could you tell us briefly in this thread what you liked about the book Connie?

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I read and discussed The Sherlockian and really enjoyed it. I like the Conan Doyle part of the story better than the modern day part, and the missing diary was a great subject-matter. I really enjoy historical fiction mysteries. Great combination!

Hi Sarah,

Are badges posted to walls? If so I just noticed there are two Carlas in the group. Happy to add a nickname to make things easier.

Thanks

Janice (jamasc) | 60271 comments We'll need to set up a wall for you, Carla. What can we call you to distinguish you from our other Carla?

I was going to go with something linked to my avatar Carla (Peanut), silly but hopefully easy to find.

Janice (jamasc) | 60271 comments Okay, I've set up a wall for you as Carla (Peanut)'s wall and moved your badge over to it.

Thank you!

Sarah | 18550 comments I could have sworn I set a wall up for you Carla when I posted the badges. Sorry. Oh well, Janice has got you all set up with your first badge now so all is good :-) And nicknames are always helpful (especially when linked to the avatar) - makes life a whole lot easier when it comes to badging when we have multiple people with the same name. :-)

message 68: by Joan (new)

Joan Sarah, thanks for the badge
