Sarah | 18550 comments I also just bought Fluency based on the choice award nomination in the series (Travis' comments on it). It was only 99p

message 852: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I bought The Golem and the Jinni for a buddy read that starts Saturday, because I last minute decided that I want to read the real book and not the ebook I have.

And, to avoid shipping costs, I also got A Man Called Ove.

Both great buys!!

message 857: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I bought The Woman in White to be ready for the serialized buddy read coming up.

message 858: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I just bought Hartland's Medical and Dental Hypnosis. I've been reading the 3rd edition but it's a bit dated. So that will go back on the shelf and I'll start again with the 4th edition. This is for my course. A bit of light reading!

message 859: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60217 comments I broke down an picked up two books in Audible's 2-1 sale:

Snow Crash
The Palace Job

I also grabbed a couple of cheap Kindle books:
The Obsidian Chamber
Behind Closed Doors
The Long Hard Road Out of Hell

message 860: by Carol (new)

Carol (carolfromnc) | 401 comments I bought To the End of the Land by David Grossman, Pago Pago Tango by John Enright, and The Hunting Gun by Yasushi Inoue, two of which are for group reads coming up.

message 861: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments @Janice - do you fancy buddy reading Snow Crash at some point. I tried reading it before and had to put it aside but i really want to read it. I vaguely remember Travis saying it would be a good buddy read book because of some of the themes. I'm in no hurry though.

message 862: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm curious what you'll think of Marilyn Manson's AB Janice. I really liked it. He is an intelligent guy.

message 863: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I've just gone a mini Ancient Greece/mythology kick. I picked up:

The King Must Die The King Must Die (Theseus, #1) by Mary Renault

The Bull from the Sea The Bull from the Sea (Theseus, #2) by Mary Renault

The Last of the Wine The Last of the Wine by Mary Renault

That would be great. I could go with either December or January. Could you set up the thread for it? I'm fading fast and have to pack yet. 3:15 am will come fast.

I think a lot of people dismiss him because of the image he presents. I've seen him in interviews and he seems like a very interesting person.

message 866: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I just picked up a kindle book:

Heart's Blood Heart's Blood (Whistling Tor, #1) by Juliet Marillier

message 867: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19386 comments I picked up two books in the Audible 2-1 sale.

The Danish Girl by David Ebershoff The Danish Girl

The Autistic Brain Thinking Across the Spectrum by Temple Grandin The Autistic Brain: Thinking Across the Spectrum

message 868: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I forgot! Along with my textbook, I also bought Marabou Stork Nightmares which will be my final book of the geocache challenge (set in South Africa). I downloaded a kindle sample and it intrigued me enough to buy it. It might take a bit to get in to as quite a bit of the text is written with a Scottish accent!

I would joining too... this time for real (I have skipped so many buddy reads this year), as long as it take place in January. End of the year -work related- is hellish for me.

message 870: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments January is doable for me. Janice?

message 871: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments My Death of Dulgath paperback preorder has been cancelled :( It was supposed to be available from Nov 1 but it has no been taken from the website of my online webshop and my order has been cancelled.

Lisa, didn't you also preorder for Nov 1?

message 872: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19386 comments I just picked up Small Great Things Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult from Audible. I had it from the library, but had to return it before I had a chance to read it. I figured, since I have to wait until I move to join a new library, then get to the end of the queue again, I might as well just buy it. It is one that I really want to read anyway. Plus, I may have more time to listen while I unpack than I will to physically read a book.

Yes, I did Peggy. I have had similar problems. I preordered from Amazon UK but then I got an email two days after it was meant to arrive saying that it wasn't available yet and that they needed more time to provide me with an estimated delivery date. It's now saying temporarily unavailable on Amazon. My order hasn't been cancelled but I don't think it's going to turn up anytime soon :(

message 874: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I had this with another book earlier in the year. It has to be the publishers.

message 876: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I picked up the 'Tawny Man' trilogy by Robin Hobb:

Fool's Errand Fool's Errand (Tawny Man, #1) by Robin Hobb

The Golden Fool The Golden Fool (Tawny Man, #2) by Robin Hobb

Fool's Fate Fool's Fate (Tawny Man, #3) by Robin Hobb

Send Michael an PM and ask if he knows why it's not available in the UK through Amazon. He self published this book and he's very approachable.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I bought The Muse, it's a kindle/kobo deal today.

Janice (jamasc) | 60217 comments Peggy wrote: "I bought The Muse, it's a kindle/kobo deal today."

I checked Amazon.ca and Kobo, and it was still top dollar. $13.99

message 881: by Peggy (last edited Nov 18, 2016 07:55AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments :( Too bad Janice! Sorry to have made you happy for no reason.

Amazon was also something like that for me, but Kobo worked.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Peggy wrote: "I bought The Muse, it's a kindle/kobo deal today."

That was a good grab, Peggy! I bought it in hardback when it was first published. Would you be interested in doing a buddy read of it at some point? Maybe sometime in the new year?

message 883: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments You read my thoughts Lisa. I planned on asking for a buddy read in the new year as soon as I read here that someone else bought it ;-)

I'll open a thread for it and we can talk there about the starting date.

message 884: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I picked up:

The Steel Remains The Steel Remains by Richard K. Morgan

And for my kindle:

Eragon Eragon (Inheritance, #1) by Christopher Paolini

message 885: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I have Eragon on my ereader too Lisa, but I don't seem to get around to reading it. If you ever feel like doing another buddy read in 2017... ;-)

I would be happy to buddy read it with you next year, Peggy. Maybe we could read it in the spring sometime?

message 887: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Sounds good to me :)

message 888: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Great! :) Do you want to set a start date now or shall we leave it for the time being and work out a date once we get into 2017?

message 889: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'll probably forget if we plan it for so far away, so let's do it in 2017. Worked out well for the golem and the djinni buddy read :)

That's fine with me :) I will probably forget as well if we plan too far ahead!

message 891: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'll start The Leaving of Things today, my final book for the geocache challenge.

message 892: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I bought two more kindle books:

Inda Inda (Inda, #1) by Sherwood Smith

The Last Kingdom The Last Kingdom (The Saxon Stories, #1) by Bernard Cornwell

message 893: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I think you'll really like The Last Kingdom, Lisa. I have learnt a lot about our history from it. And I nearly passed it by as it's not much usual genre and I thought it might be dry and boring. But I was so wrong!

message 894: by Lisa (last edited Nov 20, 2016 12:07PM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments It was because of you I decided to buy it, Sarah :) I'm not the biggest fan of that period of history but it sounds pretty good.

message 896: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I just bought The Quantum Thief. Sounds suitably confusing enough to be an entertaining read.

Lol, I see what you mean! Confusing indeed!

message 898: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I picked up The Rose Garden which is a kindle deal today.

message 899: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments You picked up some great books lately Lisa!

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Peggy wrote: "You picked up some great books lately Lisa!"

Thanks, Peggy! :) I probably should stop buying them for a little while, seeing as we are close to Christmas, but I can't resist!
