False alarm! We stood still for 20 minutes while they checked what they hit, but they found nothing.
And I'm posting all this in the completely wrong thread, I see... can't delete it in the app, sorry!
I'm pleased it was a false alarm. I was on a train that hit someone earlier in the year and it's horrible. I'm pleased you didn't go through that.
Just finished Astoria: John Jacob Astor and Thomas Jefferson's Lost Pacific Empire: A Story of Wealth, Ambition, and Survival
My review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/1803464029
I finished The Golem and the Djinni for a buddy read. I thought it was fantastic! Here is my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just finished Red Love: The Story of an East German FamilyRed Love: The Story of an East German FamilyMy review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/1799203224
CHERIE, I see you are reading The Mask Carvers Son. Did you see the Japanese movie "Departures". If not I recommend it.
I'm starting The Dragon Keeper. I have been jumping between these Robin Hobb series more than a jumping bean on a sugar high but I'm in the mood for some character driven fantasy right now and this one also contains dragons so it fits the bill perfectly. One day I will read all her 'Realm of the Elderlings' books in the order they should be picked up!
I'm reading The Hypnotist's Love Story to finish the Geocache challenge! I'm also finishing up Pride and Prejudice which I am really enjoying. This is my second time with P&P and I'm reading it with others in a different group.
I'm reading The Nest, and so far very impressed this is the author's debut novel. In the back cover it is described as a "darkly comic tale" by Elizabeth Gilbert, and I can't think in a better way to say it.
Joan wrote: "CHERIE, I see you are reading The Mask Carvers Son. Did you see the Japanese movie "Departures". If not I recommend it."I have not seen the movie, Joan, but I looked it up and will check to see if my library has it. Thanks!
Before I left on holidays, I was reading Bound by Flames and The Lightkeepers. I finished both. While I was there, I started and finished -
Outtakes from the Grave
S.E.C.R.E.T.
The Year of Fog
I started Blue Moon Rising on audiobook today. And I picked up Britt-Marie Was Here from the library this afternoon and will start it tonight.
I also started Letters from Skye since it was my pick for next book club meeting, and I just realized the meeting is next Monday, not on the 28th. :[I will take a look at the discussion thread when I'm a little more into it. So far looks good.
Just finished LETTERS FROM SKYE and rated it only 2 stars. It is not an historical fiction novel, but a historical romance, and the historical part is really weak. Although I like epistolary format, I didn't find the writing nothing impressive. At least it was a quick read and I finished on time for my book club meeting tomorrow. Now I can come back to THE NEST.
I'm currently reading The Poisonwood Bible for the geocache challenge. I'm 17% of the way through and so far I'm a bit bored. It is very highly rated, so I'm hoping it gets better. I'm listening to this one and I think part of the issue is the narrator. She is quite monotone and sounds like she is reading a book. The story is told from 5 different points of view and they all sound identical. You can't tell who's talking half half the time until they say something to give it away and you need to pay very close attention to the story. It is difficult to pay close attention when someone is so monotone. I keep finding my mind wandering off.
I finished Britt-Marie Was Here last night. I'm not sure what I'll read next - maybe S.E.C.R.E.T. Shared.
Kristie, I hope it picks up for you. I loved The Poisonwood Bible. I would switch out to the book if the narrator is that bad. I find that makes a world of difference in how I end up enjoying a book!

I had another book by the same author picked for the geocache challenge, but swapped it for something else because I was really hesistant to get started on it.
I'm now reading The Leaving of Things for the geocache challenge. My final book!
Kristie,I loved The Poisonwood Bible especially the palindromes, but I bet it doesn't work well as an audiobook. For me, being able to flip back & forth among the chapters, comparing points of view and of course seeing the palindromes, are part of following the story.
Able was I ere I saw Elba.
Go hang a salami, I'm a lasagna hog.

Started my reread of The Final Empire. Well the whole series. Now I wasn't sure how it would go understanding the world already. I think its better because I'm not trying to spend so much understanding. I look forward to my rereads of ASoIaF and dark tower series at some point. Funny i never wamted to reread and now I want to reread more and more. Pobably may end up being half of my reading eventually. And why not? How many times have you watche the same tv show or movie

It is! I didn't even realize :)
Janice wrote: "That reminds me. I need to dive into book 3 of Song of Ice & Fire. I'm daunted by the size of it."I have completely stalled on A Song of Ice and Fire. I have read the first two books but haven't gone any further.
Janice wrote: "We should buddy read it, Lisa. Maybe that would help us get through it."I would be up for that, Janice :)
Talking of rereads. I think I'm going to tackle demon cycle again whilst waiting for the next book. I still haven't read skull throne. Stumbled upon a major spoiler whilst looking at the page for the new book (someone's review) which I'm gutted about.
I am going to put The Dragon Keeper to one side for the time being. I am really enjoying it but it is giving away some spoilers for the 'Liveship Traders' trilogy which I haven't finished yet. So I am now going to reread the first Liveship book, Ship of Magic, then finish off the rest of that series and then I will come back to 'Dragon Keeper' and the rest of the 'Rainwild Chronicles'.

I have this book on my challenge, but it will roll over to next year's left over books. I have been looking forward to reading it for a long time.
I finished Cry Wolf; was OK. I don't think I would continue the serie though.I startet The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty (for Rice, for the Geo CH, one book in each site), but I have put it aside after 20 pag. ... and that is a LOT to say...when I begin reading a book, I read it to the end almost always, it is very seldom that I let a book, and even less after only 20 pag!
Now I'm readingThe Three-Body Problem
@ Cherie - I do not recommend the audio. I'm considering trying to get a hold of the physical book, but I own the audio so I may try to stick with it.
I also started Breakfast with Buddha for the challenge. I'm enjoying some of the humor in the book. I'm looking forward to seeing how the MC changes by the end.
Just finished and loved Forty Autumns: A Family's Story of Courage and Survival on Both Sides of the Berlin Wall

It is a quick and easy read, perfect for listening while unpacking. :) I hope you like it.
I recently completed the kindle version of The Other Einstein, which I bought on sale. The story grabbed my attention right away and I was pleasantly surprised. Solid four star book for me. :-)

I'm reading Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. My favorite quote so far:
"With friends, one is well; but at home, one is better," he answered, and went into his study."
I finished The Nest which was a great first novel.I started yesterday The Trouble with Goats and Sheep and I am already liking the two ten years old girls who are the main characters.
