Pretty sure Terry Brooks has a recommended reading order list on his website and I think it appears on GR too when you look at the books in the series. The original trilogy is where he recommends starting as I recall which is what I have ready and waiting at some point. But a lot of the newer ones sound more appealing to me.

I'm 11% into The Girl on the Cliff and so far I'm not super excited about finishing. The writing isn't all that great, the love-struggles of the main character don't interest me, and things that happen the way they do are a bit unrealistic. I'm a bit intrigued by the girl on the cliff and her father though, and hopefully we'll get to parts set in the past soon, so I'll read on. I'll have to anyway, it's my last geocache book to complete 12 sites and I wouldn't know what else to read.
I am reading Girl Who Saved The King of Sweden, I am just starting but I think I will really like it. It is written with humor. I am surprised to be starting the story in South Africa. I think I thought it would be set in Sweeden,
I finished Age of Myth and gave it 5 stars. I didn't want it to end, and the next book won't be published until next summer.Next up is They Thirst. Just the title gives me the shivers.
Good to hear you enjoyed it Janice, I'm really looking forward to reading it!Still a long wait, but at least you know that the book is ready and will actually be published when it's promised to be published. In contrast to some other authors/series...

Glad to hear you enjoyed Age of Myth, Janice. It's now on my wishlist.
I finished Like Water for Chocolate for the geocaching challenge. It wasn't quite as good as I was expecting so I gave it 3 stars. The recipes were good though!
Lisa wrote: "I finished Like Water for Chocolate for the geocaching challenge. It wasn't quite as good as I was expecting so I gave it 3 stars. The recipes were good though!"I gave it 3 stars to, Lisa. It felt too me too much romance, and too little magic realism, specially if you come to read Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It was a good read, but that's it.
I finished Patron Saint of Liars last night. I couldn't sleep, so decided to finish it. I have House of Leaves next on my list, but I'm not sure I want to tackle it just yet. We've got a buddy read coming up, and this is a chunkster.

I wanted more magical realism from it too, Sandra. The romance side of it was okay but it wasn't quite what I was expecting.
I watched the movie, Joan, and I agree it is pretty good. Actually, I think it is the most-faithful-to-the-book movie I have ever see.
No, I haven't watched the movie, Joan. I will probably check it out now, seeing as you and Sandra both enjoyed it :)
Still reading The Girl on the Cliff. It's partly set in the present day and partly in the past, and the present day story is just so so bad. Everything that happens is just completely unbelievable. At this point I'm actually laughing, even though serious stuff is happening. I feel like what I enjoy most about this book right now is just reading on to see with what other implausible and bizarre events the author comes up with.
Oh dear Peggy! I hope you get to the end of it soon so you can move on to a more enjoyable (and plausible) story.
Oh boy, that is the worst, Peggy! I hope you get throught that book soon but at least you had a good laugh!!
It has some really funny reviews!! The rating is pretty high though (3.8) which is surprising considering that the bad reviews are really bad.
Peggy wrote: "Still reading The Girl on the Cliff. It's partly set in the present day and partly in the past, and the present day story is just so so bad. Everything that happens is just complete..."I added it to my wishlist yesterday but I'm now thinking I will remove it. It sounds pretty bad!
Tasha: yes, it has quite a high average. I'm surprised too. But my opinion mirrors that of the really bad ones. I have another of her books on my tbr, which has a 4.05 rating, but I'm not sure if I still want to read it. Lisa: I would remove it ;-) There are so many better dual timeline or hf books out there. I think you would be rolling your eyes at the book too.
Your comment made me laugh, Peggy. How terrible when you find a book like this. I hope you finish it soon. What is next in the list? Have you already decided?
Haven't decided yet, but it is going to be something that I really want to read and will read just because, not for any challenge of group read or whatever. Maybe Words of Radiance, Part 1.
Peggy wrote: "Lisa: I would remove it ;-) There are so many better dual timeline or hf books out there. I think you would be rolling your eyes at the book too."Peggy, I have taken your advice. My wishlist is now 1 book lighter ;) I think it was the right decision, my eye rolling would have been on overdrive by the sounds of it! I hope you finish it soon so that you can move on to something more enjoyable.
Oh, Peggy... what determination you have. The last book I read that had me rolling my eyes at the sheer unbelievability of it was a DNF for me. Good luck getting through the end. Hope your next book as a lot better!
All for that geocache badge! I'm counting down the pages, 25 to go. Ah well, I'll have fun ranting about the book in my review ;-)
Ah yes... I just purchased an Audible daily deal book just because it was set in China and it might be good. lol Can't wait to read your review!
Janice wrote: "I found one review on it that turned it into a drinking game. I guess that's one way to salvage it."I saw that one! haha!
Now that I took a look at the book main page I realized it is by Lucinda Riley! I read The Orchid House by her, rated it 2 stars, and decide I'm not trying this author again any time soon. I understand better now what you say , Peggy. At least in TOH her characters made some things that definitively didn't make sense. The plot had some ridiculous "twists", and she just put too many things going on at the same time to the same people. I don't know why I didn't rate it 1 star. And I won't read her again after knowing about your experience.
Thanks for saying that Sandra. I'm now definitely going to remove the other book I have on my tbr, The Lavender Garden.edit: oh, I had 3 more books on my tbr. All gone now. But they have pretty good average ratings..
I had fun getting all my issues with the book off my chest, although I do feel a bit guilty about the 1 star. I hardly ever give a book 1 star. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I started listening to Speaker for the Dead for the geocache challenge. I have it from the library for free. I wasn't sure about listening to it as i read the print cersion of book 1 but the narration is good and i've been drawn in so i guess it will be ok. I've just abandoned 2 audiobooks as they weren't working for me.
A Court of Mist and Fury is a sort of disappointment. It feels more as A Court of Thorns and Roses reloaded. Same plot pattern, same play of characters (other male leading) placed as opposed. You know a book isn't that good when you search for excuses to
gopher...
Whatsoever, it seems to pick up the pace into more action at least... (50% in)
I have started Devil's Brood for a buddy read. It was a bit slow at the beginning but it's getting really good now.
I finished They Thirst on audiobook. I really enjoyed the vampires as a horror element instead of a romantic interest. It's a return to the basics. Ray Porter did an awesome job with the different accents.I'm not sure what I'll read next. There's one day left in August and I can't start my challenge book yet. I may go with Stars Above. It's only a 10 hour listen.
I did give up on House of Leaves. I wasn't enjoying the format, so moved on the Different Seasons for a buddy read.
I'm reading We Are Not Such Things: The Murder of a Young American, a South African Township, and the Search for Truth and Reconciliation and Valley of the Dolls 50th Anniversary Edition. I'm listening and following along in the book (for pictures) Empty Mansions: The Mysterious Life of Huguette Clark and the Spending of a Great American Fortune. All of these reads are very good. I was in a fiction funk and non-fic was just the remedy!
I finished Stars Above. It was a nice finish to The Lunar Chronicles.I will start my challenge read tomorrow - A Man Called Ove.
I finished The White Tiger. What a great book! Review: Was in India with The White Tiger - review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished A Man Called Ove for the monthly challenged and discovered it was a gem.Next up is a geocache read - The Book of Human Skin
