I just started The Opposite of Everyone and I plan to finish Forever Odd today. Then, I'll be starting The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie tomorrow.

I am juggling fossil hunters and Indians in my Fossil War book, Crakers and Gardeners in MaddAddam, Harry Hole #2, and The Lake House. I am still waiting for my challenge book from the library. I think this is all I can get done for the month.
I finished listening to 1984 yesterday. This was one of those books that I felt I was supposed to read because it is so often referenced, but I really didn't expect to like it very much. I was pleasantly surprised though. Despite a few slow parts, this book was fascinating. I don't know if I would have felt the same if I read the text, but the audio version was great. I'm really glad I got one of those "should read" books off of my list and "double plus" glad that I actually enjoyed it. (Double plus is a reference to the book, I'm not just crazy-talking lol)
I finished reading When Mockingbirds Sing. This book was very interesting. A little girl Leah talks to who she calls The Rainbow Man and when he sings she paints pictures. One picture led a gentlman and his wife to win the lottery but when Leah paints another picture and the townspeople that play the numbers that Leah paints in this new painting ...well it leads to a whole kind of mess. I really liked this book. It is a story about God and Faith but is not overly preachy :)

thanks for that Stephanie, I've added it to my to-read list.Janice, somehow I enjoyed Michener more when I my own life was less work.
inspired by YLTO, I am trying my first graphic novel (I used to think that meant X-rated) "Wonder Struck" by Brian Selznick, and feeling puzzled by the pages with no words.
@Joan hope you like it. I got it free on Amazon for kindle awhile back through either bookbub or bookgorilla :)
KimeyDiann wrote: "I finished listening to 1984 yesterday. im reading After The Ending I got a nook for Christmas from my husband and he asked that I not go too crazy spending money on books, so I follow bookbub and check out the free ebooks. I have come across some really good ones
Stephanie wrote: "No idea :)"I was teasing! I was looking for a book with a rainbow on the cover and thought it was interesting that the girl's imaginary friend was The Rainbow Man. Can't you imagine him in a pair of rainbow socks or shirt?
I'm just about finished reading We Need to Talk About Kevin and it's been a definite unputdownable book. Intense. I don't usually watch movie tie-ins but I have the movie queued up on netflix for when I'm finished. I'm also reading The Lake House for a buddy read here and will totally delve into it once I finish the Kevin book above. I did get started though and it's already pulled me in from the first chapter. Morton has an amazing ability to scene set and I so want to visit this Lake House.
I'm listening to The Muralist for the geo challenge: a book about painting.
Carolyn wrote: "so I follow bookbub and check out the free ebooks. I have come across some really good ones"Carolyn, do yo know about the nook free Fridays? There are free books almost every Friday:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/nook-bl...
There's also a daily list of free kindle books here: http://digitalbooktoday.com/free-kind...
I don't get books there very often since mos to them are romance, paranormal, fantasy and dystopian, genres I don't read. But there are a few mysteries, thrillers, and historical fiction too.
I finished reading Sand Omnibus for the monthly challenge. I loved the idea of the world and the sand diving. The story went up and down for me. I think so much more could have been done with the book, a longer book or more books allowing for more detail and more exploration of the world. It was an entertaining read though. Now on to Mercy for the geocache challange. It will mean I've completed one site once I've finished it.

I started the group themed read, Church of Marvels last night. I think I'm going to like it, if the beginning is anything by which to judge.
I'm currently listening to Trigger Warning: Short Fictions and Disturbances and it's sooo good! It's read by Neil Gaiman himself and he's an absolute joy to listen to. His reading feels really intimate, even seductive, but still the pace is perfect and not too "acted" but read in a clear voice. There are a few stories I haven't been exactly crazy about, but many have been extremely good. I think it's the most enjoyable audio book I've ever listened to.

I finished my challenge read, Under Heaven. If you enjoy fantasy, this one could count for being set in China. It's a fictionalized China set in the Tang dynasty and reimagines the An Shi Rebellion. It could also be read for war, arrows, and chunkster. This was a second attempt. The first time, back in 2011, I tried to listen to it but I struggled because it jumps back and forth in time and between POV's. I may have had better luck with a print format. I'm really glad that I gave it a second attempt because I was quite enthralled with the setting and culture.
Next up is His Majesty's Dragon. This is a geocache read and a group read in another group. Oh, and Cherie.... it's the first in a new series for me.
I read
for the March Challenge.I enjoyed it; I recommend it; I gave it four stars
This is a good book to read with a friend. It is multi-layered and complex so there is a great deal for discussion but it is very easy reading.
my review

I have heard good things about Gaiman as a narrator so one day I'll listen to one of his books as a reread with him narrating, just for the experience.
Cherie wrote: "What? Am I the only one looking for an actual rainbow on the cover for the Geo Cache challenge? "I'm pretty sure we do need an actual rainbow on the cover. That's what I got from Janice's comment above and over in the other thread.
I finished The Lake House for a buddy read. I really enjoyed it and rated it 4 stars. Here is my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Cherie wrote: "Janice - I loved the Temeraire Series. I am waiting for May 10th for book #9!!!"I'm under pressure here. So many of my friends have rated this 5 stars! LOL!
I started Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs yesterday. It seems like my reading plans always get disrupted by new releases.
I'm just the opposite, Bella. I keep preordering books that I'm really excited about, then not having time to get to get to them. I'm going to have to adjust my schedule so that I leave some unplanned reading time. Fire Touched is one that I preordered, but haven't gotten to. I look forward to seeing what you think of it.
Janice wrote: "Cherie wrote: "Janice - I loved the Temeraire Series. I am waiting for May 10th for book #9!!!"I'm under pressure here. So many of my friends have rated this 5 stars! LOL!"
You are going to listen to it, right. Simon Vance?
Janice wrote: "Cherie wrote: "Janice - I loved the Temeraire Series. I am waiting for May 10th for book #9!!!"I'm under pressure here. So many of my friends have rated this 5 stars! LOL!"
I really liked book 1, i liked book 2 but put it aside and now i have no desire to go back to it. I don't think I'm going to bother continuing the series.
Janice wrote: "Yes, Cherie. Simon Vance! He also narrated Under Heaven. That's two audiobooks back to back for me."I have that one book marked at the library. Simon has narrated all of the Temeraire books, as well as all of the Aubrey/Maturin Series books (21) by Patrick O'Neil. Both series are set in the same time period, basically - when Brittian was at war with France. I hope you like it!
I find I do that with a lot of series, Sarah. I think my problem is that every book I pick up is a series book (do they write standalones any more), and I intend to continue the series but I never get back to it. I will definitely read book 1 and 2 of this series because I have them both slotted in to the Geocache challenge.
Tell me about it. That's why i thought about Under the Dome, I have so few stand alone books. That said, I've just started a new series by Jussi Adler-Olsen and it's very good. I'm only 100 pages in but it's good to be reacquainted with a bit of scandinavian crime. I actually feel overwhelmed sometimes if i feel like i have too many series on the go.
Janice wrote: "Yes, Cherie. Simon Vance! He also narrated Under Heaven. That's two audiobooks back to back for me."I find I can't listen to two audiobooks back to back that have the same narrator ( if they aren't part of the same series). I end up thinking too much about the sound of the voice and not the story.
I have the same problem if it is a series book and the narrator changes from one book to the next. Drives me crazy.
Kristie wrote: "I'm just the opposite, Bella. I keep preordering books that I'm really excited about, then not having time to get to get to them. But when I do pre-order, I usually stay up late so I can download them right away.
Janice wrote: "(do they write standalones any more) ..."hahaha - I think I asked that somewhere too. Yes, they do!

I had a hard time listening to Temeraire and the Aubrey/Maturin books back to back. Simon has an amazing range of voices, but when there are many, many characters, the voices do overlap. I did not realize Simon was the narrator on the first Temeraire book until I realized how much some of the sailors sounded familiar.
I have never listened to a series where the narrators changed, so I do not know about that part of audio books. All of mine have been the same. I guess I have been lucky with that.
So far, I'm not having any trouble separating the two books. I'm not hearing the voices from Under Heaven. I'm hearing the voices of Tremeraire and Laurence. I love the voice Simon Vance has given Tremeraire. Perfection! The only time that I've had trouble with narrators is when they have such a distinctive voice, that I can't differentiate between the books. Scott Brick and Luke Daniels are two that come to mind.
Tim Gerard Reynolds, my favourite narrator, seems to embody the essence of whatever book he is reading. Simon Vance seems to be able to do that as well.
Like Kimey, I hate it when the narrator is switched in mid-series. Sometimes, it's necessary, like the death of the narrator. That has happened in a couple of series I loved - Robin Sachs in the Harry Hole series and Frank Muller in the Dark Tower Series were two examples of that.
Okay, I'm babbling and should go to bed. Thursdays is "Wine Night". That should explain it.
The one that sticks out to me where the narrator switched mid series is The Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning. The first two or three books were narrated by Joyce Bean. The rest of the series was narrated by Natalie Ross and Phil Gigante together. I love Phil Gigante's narration, especially when he is using an Irish accent... But he was apparently convicted of inappropriate sexual conduct with a minor and is in or is going to prison. That sort of turns me off of his narration.
This got me curious about the most recent Fever World book (that I'm currently reading on kindle), Luke Daniels and Jill Redfield are narrating the audio version of it. So this series has three different sets of narrators! If Luke Daniels and Jill Redfield are good narrators for this book, they should re-record the entire series with them reading it. For continuity. Not that I plan on buying the audio versions of the most recent books in this series.
Okay, now I'm babbling. And I don't even have wine to use as an excuse! LOL. Maybe I need more coffee... or less? LOL.
I don't like the new Status bar! Oh, I was going to post this. I got this recommendation in my news feed last night.
"Because you read The Fault in Our Stars you should read
." What????
