Alissa | 220 comments Happy New Year! I've finished Robin Hobb The Liveship Traders Trilogy 3 Books Collection Set and I liked it, but it's one step below the Farseer trilogy (even if it's on a grander scale). I take the other readers' advice and keep on with the series, The Complete Tawny Man Trilogy: Fool's Errand, The Golden Fool, Fool's Fate is next.

Before, it's either Dust and Light or The Whitefire Crossing, or both. December has been a very busy month and I've had little time to read, hope January will stop this negative trend :D

This summer will be devoted to (an attempt to) Malazan. I take it I better read Gardens of the Moon when I have time and focus to dedicate.

Scott I'm currently finishing Words of Radiance.
Was hoping to get back to the world of Drizzt soon. But I keep finding other stuff to read. I have read the first 10 ? I think. Dark elf trilogy, Icewind Dale, and Legacy of the Drow. Although I was planning on doing some book of the month stuff as well ;)

Also been listening to a lot of Military/space stuff while at work/commuting to work. Finishing The Lost Destroyer atm.

The Malazan Books are also on my list. Need to get around to that also, so many books, so little time !!!!

message 11: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments I'm still reading Gary Jennings' Aztec (and likely will be for rather a while), but I'm also reading The Sorcerer of the Wildeeps by Kai Ashante Wilson on those occasions when I can read on my phone or Kindle but an 800 page trade paperback isn't convenient.

Somehow I am scared though that once I really get into the Wheel of Times series no one will ever see me again... at least for a few weeks.

Love ...love.....The Dark is Rising Series......

Are you continuing through the others?

I'm in a FB group going through them all.

message 16: by Margret (new)

Margret Brenda- had a plan to join in on your December buddy read for The Dark is Rising, then you mentioned it was book #2. So I felt compelled to listen to #1 first since I've heard such good things about the series (and my general need to keep series books in order even if they hold up as stand alone)

: )

By the way, I got busy last month, so never finished my read. Feel free to comment, when/if you get to The Dark is Rising. Also....don't know if I mentioned this before, but the main characters are different in the two books. Except for Gumerry...

message 19: by Amy (new)

Amy Sanderson | 129 comments I've just started The Final Empire. I know so many people who are huge fans of Brandon Sanderson, so I thought it was about time I gave the Mistborn series a try.

I'm also reading Strange Weather in Tokyo, which is sort of cute even if, as some reviewers have pointed out, it doesn't actually have much plot!

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Finishing up listening to Lord of Chaos, then on to the next. Plan on beginning either Theft of Swords or Assassin's Apprentice, can't decide which sounds more fun.

message 24: by Femmy (new)

Femmy | 166 comments I'm reading Tusuk Kundai Pusaka (a wuxia novel, or wuxia fantasy as BFB website calls them). After that, I plan to read The Dragonbone Chair and Empire in Black and Gold for the book club reads.

I loved that book to death. It's entertaining, witty and heart-wrenching at the same time.

More fun meaning more light moments I'd say Theft of Swords...I loved both stories, but the premises of both series are very different, they are not in the same vein. Great fantasy all of course :D

Currently reading Dust and Light, Berg is a most cruel taskmaster of her characters, her stories hits heavy themes with dulcetness and she never fails to deliver. Absolutely engaging, I read almost half the book in one day.

I'm really enjoying it so far. Wish I had a little more time to sink into it between work and trying to write in the space between work and sleep. It took me forever to finish reading For Whom the Bell Tolls before I started this one, but it's moving quite a bit faster.

message 27: by Lára (new)

Lára | 479 comments Joining in this months group read of The Dragonbone Chair, but could find the book only in German and in audio format.

Also reading Three Kingdoms (Library of Chinese Classics: Chinese-English, 5 Volume Set) (I´m still on book one),
The Oresteia by Aeschylus

Learning from Hindu Gods and Goddesses, Egyptian Mythology and A History of India so it´s going to take a while to finish them, probably the whole year.

I´m always reading manga or some comic and this month is no exception, so I´m on Lucifer, Vol. 2: Children and Monsters while I wait for Black Butler, Vol. 22 and Tokyo Ghoul, Vol. 5 to come out.

So far it's great. Heard nothing but good things. I'm only about halfway through at this point and I'm getting a definite calm before the storm vibe.

message 31: by Kay (new)

Kay (bookpixi) Finishing up The Goblin Emperor and after reading the comments on The Dragonbone Chair I am intrigued and put it on hold at my library. It sounds like something I would like. While I wait on that I will probably read Siege and Storm.

Both looks very interesting! I've finished Ash and Silver, the final book in the Sanctuary's duet. Not Berg's best, a less careful wrap-up than usual for her, but I was truly moved. I'm whiling some time away with a YA, The Wrath and the Dawn (love the cover), then it's Last Song Before Night for a buddy read.

No, no it is not. This was at least my second or third time through it, but the last time I read it was probably in the early 1990s. I had to buy a new trade paperback -- my mass-market paperback was starting to shed pages -- and I probably would've finished it sooner if it was available in eBook format. Giant, floppy trade paperbacks are just so unwieldy ...

Definitely recommended for those who find Game of Thrones a bit too tame ...

message 38: by Tara (new)

Tara (tarabookreads) I'm reading (listening to) Prince of Fools I'm in the first half but so far it's fun to listen to... enjoying the humor and story line..
I also plan to start reading A Darker Shade of Magic , it seems intriguing.

OMG, I completely forgot I had read this book. Read it in the early 80s and absolutely loved it. Back then I had read all the fantasy I could find and was looking for something to read. Someone had loaned it to my mom and she hated it so I gave it a try. I was glad I did. Yes, I can see why mother hated though. Not here kind of story. ; )

message 40: by Icia (new)

Icia (pttybjrn) Ah yes, Aztec...I wasn't VERY young when I tried to read it, but I hadn't found a taste for darker stuff yet either. I absolutely loved the cultural, historical and anthropological aspects of it, but I think I got half-way through before I had to abandon it [due to known reasons]. Perhaps I'll give it another try.

message 41: by Joshua (new)

Joshua Carlsen I am currently reading The Sword of Shannara. I has been tough. I don't know if it is that fact that we just had a baby and trying to concentrate on the book has been tough or the fact that the book is so close to The Lord of the Rings. Anyhow I decided to finish it even though I have three books in the queue that I am excited about but I guess it is a waiting game.

message 42: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments And it's Tor novella time -- finished The Sorcerer of the Wildeeps, read Daniel Polansky's The Builders in essentially a single sitting, and am now starting Witches of Lychford by Paul Cornell. So far, they're all of uniformly high quality.

Well I finished Skin Game. I just love the Dresden Files. This one was typical Harry. Gets himself in to situations that you think, "Hells Bells, there is no way he's going to get out of this one" and then suddenly....he does. Pretty much the way all his tales of late seem. Mr. Butcher just seems to make it harder and harder to believe he's going to pull it out again. With that being said, I believe that maybe Harry might be getting close to the end of his steam or his magic or his power or whatever you might want to call it but I actually found I was getting just a tad bored. I really don't want to see an end of his tales but maybe one from Harry's world where he is just a minor character. One, say about Molly Carpenter. Still love these books and hope they'll keep coming. Now, I'm going to start Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

Finished Dust of Dreams, We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves and what with the two deaths this week too, feel really sad. Hoping The Bees is more cheerful as I feel I'll need to at least start the final Malazan in a cheery mood.
