Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 646 comments Good list. I have read only Day of the Jackal from that list.
And I intend to read atleast 10 Wodehouses next year :)

Hi Rebecca!
Having read The Convenient Marriage I can safely say it ought to be shelved under humor; although there are some angles which form the basis of the story, but it's not a conventional romance. But well worth the read :)

And Death comes at the end is also pretty decent.

I simply loved the wit in Friday's Child. Glad to hear that The convenient marriage has the same. I have read so many Agatha Christie in my teenage years and have forgotten most of the titles. So I am not sure whether this will be a reread. But even when I forget the circumstances of the mystery I always remember the murderer which spoils the whole fun.

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 646 comments Haha, I took the we for granted since it was in ur list. We'll make a good plan of it in the PGW thread.
Good to know. I liked Forsyth's emotionless, journalistic narration and the thrill of the second half. I hope you like it too.
I might read Game of thrones next year too. Long time pending.

it was a place called Kantaloor 3 hours away from Munnar. Was superb and rustic. Something like a farm stay in a glorified manner.
Sorry, Rebecca for diverting your thread from its literary pursuits. :-P

message 26: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 1859 comments Sounds lovely, Syl! Hmm I need to make a trip to Kerala and visit places other than Guruvayoor! :P

Continuing with my observations,
Humor - Eve's diary in my TBR. Am a veteran Wodehouser :P
Fantasy- read and loved both
Chicklit - not read those , and not interested in TBRing
Historical - none in my TBR
Medical - added both to TBR. Thank you :)
Bookish books - one was already TBRd, added the other two
India - except Hungry tide (which I shall read someday) read and liked all 4, especially serious men
Cozy - Ove in my TBR, not interested in other 2
Friendship - TBRd angry housewives, have read the first few in the Fannie Flagg series. They are just passable
I don't like Debbie MacComber much (ssoorrrryyy)
LMM - have read Emily, liked it then. Not planning to read the other
Giving Daphne a pass, but would like to read Kate Morton - already in my TBR list
Plays, Poetry - above my head
Tuscan sun - in my TBR already
I too haven't read Alchemist (can't stand Coehlo), Rosie Project is good, provided you don't have too much expectations out of it
Rain in the Mountains - a bit slow-paced, but highly readable

Herein I complete my summary :P

message 42: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 878 comments Behind a Mask, Or, a Woman's Power

My Rating 4/5

I would surely like to know the public reaction when this book was published. It is somewhat unusual more so for an author like L M Alcott who authored the Little women which those who have read it know to be prim and proper ,maybe a little preachy too. This one was just the opposite and it brought so much excitement and suspense that I started anxiously waiting for my morning walks when I could listen to this on audio from Librivox. Hats off to the author for such a variety in her writing. And a word of appreciation for the reader Elizabeth Klett. Her voice with only slight nuances brings the various characters to life.

message 43: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 878 comments My Man Jeeves

My rating 3/5

A good humorous collection of stories. But I loved those with Jeeves and Bertie better than the others

Behind mask in my TBR now. I too will listen to the librivox version.

Reg. PGW, I love his novels better.

message 45: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 1859 comments Behind a mask in my TBR as well and I will opt for hearing it as well! :D

message 46: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 878 comments @ Syl coming to thimk of it Wodehouse novels are funnier than his stories.

message 47: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 878 comments Behind a mask is a small one. I think it can be classified as a novella.

message 48: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 1859 comments Yeah, I just saw that it was 120 pages. That's good as my concentration won't waver much while listening. I am doing a combined reading and hearing of Les Miserables and it is pretty good. Although, I will admit that I am reading more than listening as the prose is so captivating and melodic! :D

message 49: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 878 comments If the book is very good I stop istening and start reading. It happened with Three men in a boat and Jane Eyre too. Only reading helps me savour the prose. I am planning to listen to Wuthering heights this year. Let's see how it turns out.

message 50: by Vimal (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 646 comments That's true. There is a huge gulf between listening and reading when it comes to savoring prose. I experienced it with Wodehouse
