I had a long weekend so I tackled
The Shadows by J.R. Ward. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Awesome. I think Jim Butcher is a fantastic author. I really love the Dresden Files. They've only gotten better and better with each book. I just finished reading Dead Beat in January, and have scheduled to read Proven Guilty in March. What makes these books even better is James Marsters narrating them. He does a splendid job on that. Will look forward to start Codex Alera, once I'm caught up on Dresden. :)
I finished my 2 books
which was great. It still needs a little to make it hit 5 stars. Because the writing is really great, and I love the character development. Hopefully next book will be even better.
These books are always really fun to read. There's always so much going on in these books. What I like about this series compared to Percy Jackson, is that it seems the characters has matured a lot, which makes the story even better.
Now I'm working on:
Already about half-way, and it's really interesting. So far it's lacking some love, but I'm sure it will come within the next couple of chapters.
Look forward to get this series crossed off my to-read list. I really enjoyed the first 3 books, but think the series went downhill after that.
Gamma hero and a martyr heroine Driven by Fire
by Anne Stuart.My Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Listening to
...which is a good thing, since I'm re-listening to
(it has some rough spots, since it is about spousal abuse). I did just pick up
from the library, too.

I think this series gets better as we get to know the characters better. I've read the first eight or nine and love this series.
Yes, that's what I feel about it too. Plus I'm not always much for love triangles. Hopefully it will change some after this book. I really like Ethan.
This week I read
Ten Reasons to Stay by Sabrina Jeffries. It's a 91 page novella that needed a lot more pages to develop the characters. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Then I read
Too Far Gone by Marliss Melton. Another excellent romantic suspense story. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Lady with a Black Umbrella
loved it, originally published in 89. So the writing is better than MB's newer titles.
I finished these books yesterday:
I wasn't so happy with City of Heavenly Fire. It's good to have finished the series now, but I really think it was drawn out unnecessarily. The pace of this last book was so boring.
I was very surprised with how much I liked Playing with Poison. Funny dialogue and I didn't really guess the killer until the author revealed it. So that was fun guessing everything again and again.
The Angel Experiment reminded me a little of Kelley Armstrong's Darkest Powers series. Both with the fact that the main characters were part of an experiment that doctors decided to try out to combine human with genetics from something else in this case birds. The whole ordeal with them being on the run from the institute as well. I really love those types of stories when you never know what's going to happen next. Definitely going to continue the series.
Now I'm working on these books:
Sue wrote: "Lady with a Black Umbrella

by Lisa Jackson which is three oldies, repackaged and rereleased, They were romantic-suspense-lite with a overarching mystery.
All's fair in love and war. Or, so the saying goes. Bobby Taggart doesn't think so in Taking Fire

I'm reading that today! I love your review!
Anita wrote: "Thank you, Susan. I just devoured this book. It read really fast."I started this a few days ago, and had to stop reading for the weekend. I drove 700 miles, one way, for my girls to go to an honor band performance some of their friends were in, then drove it back on Sunday. I'm trying to catch up laundry today and will finish this up tonight. I love Cindy Gerard's writing.
To bad it wasn't on audio! You could have done the whole book in the car.I've got no grandkids so today I'm settling down with
by my favorite historical author Laurie McBain.
I am starting
by Kristi Ann Hunter tonight on kindle.continuing on with
by Robyn Carr The Virgin River Series
Intrigue, betrayals and treachery. Wild Bells to the Wild Sky
by Laurie McBain is classic historical romance. My Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
It took all week but I finally finished
Close to You by Kathryn Shay. I usually like Shay's books, but this one really dragged for me.My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Today I read
Snatched by Karin Slaughter. It's a novella but it is well worth reading. I loved it.My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Yesterday I read
To Marry an Heiress by Lorraine Heath. Another winning historical romance. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished these 3 books:
Cormoran Strike books never lets down so far. I really enjoy those mysteries, and always has a hard time finding the culprit until long into the books. I enjoy the funny relationship between Robin and Strike, and can't wait to see what will happen in that regard in the next book.
Every Shade of Blue, was a free book gotten from NetGalley. It was definitely not as good as I had hoped. It seemed she wrote a big part of the book from the main characters ex husband's new woman and the villain in the book. I really didn't need to know their sex lives.
Samantha Young is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. This series always have quite a story to tell.
Now I'm working on:

Good to know- I plan to read Blood Will Tell
I'm currently reading
which is pretty dark and twisted, and actually ties in to this author's book,
. Also am reading
which is an easy read so far :)
@Rosemarie, I haven't read that series. Will have to look into that one when I've caught up with her On Dublin Street series. I've so far read 4 books by her, and they've all been great. Had a few issues with the MC in the first book in On Dublin Street, but it's gotten a lot better with the next 2 books. Then I've read her standalone 'Hero' which I also really liked.

I loved Career of Evil, too.
Anita wrote: "Hayley I really like the cover of Sweet Caroline. I love easy reads sometimes."Me too! I love them a lot. This one is a Christian Fiction/Romance book. So far, so good. I really like Rachel Hauck's novels. This will be my third.
I haven't read anything by her before. I also haven't read a lot of Christian Fiction, and of what I've read some of it has been pretty great and others not so much.
Anita wrote: "I haven't read anything by her before. I also haven't read a lot of Christian Fiction, and of what I've read some of it has been pretty great and others not so much."Anita,
Rachel Hauck just writes easy-going Christian Romance. It's kind of light and fluffy reads.
I actually just finished a pretty good one, by Francine Rivers, that I would recommend. It was on a darker side, but I really enjoyed it.
Years ago I read a lot of Christian Romance and I remember one book in particular that was Romantic Suspense about uncovering more of the original scrolls and the religious and political implications they caused and everyone just wanted them to disappear again. Any idea as to title or author? I always wanted to read more of this author.
Thank you for the recommendation. I'll look into it more. One of the Christian Fiction books I read that I didn't like was
I liked the mystery in it alright, and I did sometimes like the friendship between the MC and the detective. It just irked me the wrong way about how the MC instantly was offended if someone didn't go to church, and bam then the person was of course a suspect to the murder because good guys always go to church. That was a little too much for me. Also since I myself aren't very religious.I love Christian Fantasy like Narnia and also enjoyed
quite a lot.

Hayley wrote: "Anita wrote: "Years ago I read a lot of Christian Romance and I remember one book in particular that was Romantic Suspense about uncovering more of the original scrolls and the religious and politi..."Sounds like a great book, but not I one I'm thinking about.
I finished two books today. First I finished
The Soul Catcher by Alex Kava. I enjoyed this one even though I figured out the killer early in the book.My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
And, I finally finished listening to
Fragile by Lisa Unger. The pacing of this book was soooooo slooooow, it was painful. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My current read is Forbidden, by Jo Beverley. I didn't realize this was part of a series until I started it. I need to find the beginning of the series in audio or some other accessible format since I'm visually impaired and cannot read print stuff.I'm enjoyed reading the posts to this thread. Maybe I'm finally getting the hang of using this site.
How many pages in a book do you read before calling it quits? or do you read the whole thing hoping it will get better.
