Task 7: Read a Dystopian or Post-Apocalyptic Novel

I have been wanting to read The Hunger Games Trilogy But, since I've seen the movies I think it might be to soon to step into the books. I did read the first of The Testing Trilogy and really would like to read the second and third! I think this trilogy with be finished this year!
Likely reading Gennifer Albin's Crewel World series for this -- read the first, but haven't gotten around to the other two books in the series.

I envy those of you reading Station Eleven! It was one of my favorites from last year (and I don't generally enjoy post-apocalyptic novels). I still haven't settled on what to read for this task.

I loved Station Eleven! My book club just read that last month. I plan to read Annihilation; I had already read a lot of the more popular dystopian novels (The Hunger Games, Divergent, Brave New World, etc.)

This year, I knocked off a number of dystopian/post-apocalyptic novels this year ( Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, Station Eleven, A Canticle for Leibowitz, The Giver) from my To-Read shelf, so am glad I found that I still have The Handmaid's Tale on the shelf. So, that's what I'll use for this category.

This one should be one of the easier tasks as it is one of my favourite genres - I am going to go for a recent title Gold Fame Citrus

I will leave this to chance since I have several series in this genre to finish and many to start. I ended up reading

Definitely going with Station Eleven for this one, but I'd like to also read The Handmaid's Tale if I have time.

For the Margaret Atwood fans. Don't forget the MaddAddam Trilogy, starting with Oryx an Crake. The MaddAddam Trilogy: Oryx and Crake; The Year of the Flood; MaddAddam

I've read so many dystopian novels, it's going to take me a while to find one to fit this task!
Gotta be Station Eleven for me. I'd recommend J and The Girl with All the Gifts from my reading this year. Also, for an excellent YA series of dystopia, Gone etc. by Michael Grant.

I read a ton of dystopian fiction and have never read The Road, so I'm going to do that. For those of you reading Station Eleven, I loved it! The Handmaid's Tale and Oryx and Crake are also favorites of mine. If you want to double up, I think The Giver could count as a middle grade novel. Maybe it's a little more advanced than middle grade.

One of my favorite genres! I also loved Oryx and Crake and Station Eleven. I would also highly recommend Never Let Me Go--really moving and beautifully written.

The Girl With All the Gifts is great for this category. One of my favorite surprises from this year's challenge.

Oh great shout! I've not read it either... Now I'm torn too!

Station Eleven was great! One of the best books I've read in a long time--even thinking about it 11 months after reading it, I still get teary eyed.

Anybody struggling to find a book, it seems pretty much anything Neal Stephenson has written would work. Snow Crash was especially good.
Yes yes Station Eleven, or The Girl With All The Gifts (which is getting a film in 2016, I believe, so would work for that too).

So many great suggestions here, I'm gonna have to see what jumps out at me when the time comes as quite a few on my reading list all which I've seen mentioned except the country of ice cream star by Sandra Newman.

I'm thinking "The Well" by Catherine Chanter (from the Richard & Judy Book Club picks for Autumn 2015 list)

I'm leaning towards Station Eleven or The Girl With All the Gifts for myself.
I plan on reading the final book in the Red Rising trilogy, Morning Star.

Right now I'm leaning towards Never Let Me Go. I wish I hadn't already read We (more than once), it would be perfect.

One of the reasons I enjoyed it so much was that I had no idea what it was about going in: I was expecting some kind of straight-up YA, based on the cover, so got a kick out of the surprise. It was also very different to the other books I'd been reading around the time. I haven't read any of the other books you mentioned so perhaps this wouldn't have stood up so well if I'd read it knowing those. I thought there were some great set-pieces and it was much better than I would expect a [SPOILER?] 'zombie' novel to be - especially having read The Maze Runner Series earlier this year... Having said that, I did go back and alter my rating from 5 to 4 stars after calming down a bit.
PS I didn't audiobook it: I read a paperback copy on the bus/walk to work in the mornings. This was in November and I travel between 6am and 7am so dark, cold, a bit misty, not many people around. Added a lot of great atmosphere!

This will be my year to finally be getting around to reading 1984 by George Orwell. It's been on my TBR list since 1984!

I was planning to read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang for the challenge I am doing of reading a book written in every year of my life. It seems both would fit this category. (probably a lot of Phillip K Dick would fit)

Awesome! I know absolutely nothing about it, and I'll try to keep it that way.
I can't decide if I'm going with one of the next books in series I've already started, Morning Star (#3 in the Red Rising trilogy) or The Song Rising (#3 in The Bone Season series), or going for something "new" but on my TBR radar like The Girl with All the Gifts or Wool Omnibus (the Silo series all in one). Leaning toward the stand alone books because I'm reading the next books in the series anyway - challenge or not.
