message 60: by [deleted user] (new)

Discovered Margaret Atwood last year with 'The Handmaid's Tale'. Looking forward to 'Oryx and Crake' for this challenge.

message 61: by Marie (new)

Marie (anaria97) | 20 comments Possibilities: Station Eleven, Partials, Cinder

message 62: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Carter (ephemeragrrl) | 48 comments This is one of the categories I think I will really have trouble with, so I'm going with Snowpiercer - Jacques Lob. I adored the film, so would be interesting to read the graphic novel it came from.

That was also made into a movie. So once you read it you could watch the movie, compare and complete another square.

I read Never Let Me Go last week, and I highly recommend it!

sarah (bookie_wookiee) I'm going with the first full-length novel from Claire Vaye Watkins - Gold Fame Citrus. This is set in post-apocalyptic California.

message 66: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 04, 2016 11:58PM) (new)

Finished Animal Farm. And with that, Task 7 is complete!

message 67: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 25 comments I read More Than This by Patrick Ness last year. I thought it was a very good book and would fit in here.

message 73: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (neenernj) | 3 comments First task of the challenge finished: The Road, by Cormac McCarthy. A beautiful and heartbreaking book. Had to keep a dictionary handy, but it was so worthwhile.

message 74: by Anna (new)

Anna (acdellica) | 3 comments I'l probably read Morning Star (Red Rising #3) when it comes out. Though I also have Oryx and Crake sitting on my bookshelf.

Maybe I'll try to fit in both.

Yes, me too this is the book I am starting the challenge with, so far I am enjoying it.

message 76: by Viv (new)

Viv JM A friend has recommended I read Jennifer Government and I think this would fit nicely for this task.

message 77: by Dhruv (new)

Dhruv (the_snorting_hat) | 30 comments I've been meaning to read Red Rising for some time. Has anyone here read it and would recommend it?

message 78: by Elle (new)

Elle (elleay) | 68 comments Naughtylus wrote: "I've been meaning to read Red Rising for some time. Has anyone here read it and would recommend it?"

I read it and enjoyed it very much. I'm a sci-fi/fantasy person anyway so it was right up my alley. I encourage you to read it because Pierce Brown tells a great story with some twists and isn't one to pull many punches. I snatched up the second book in the trilogy, Golden Son, when it came out last year because I really wanted to know what happened next. Hope this helps.

Courtney | 63 comments Trudie wrote: "This one should be one of the easier tasks as it is one of my favourite genres - I am going to go for a recent title Gold Fame Citrus"

Mine too! I started this book a few months ago but couldn't get into it. I loved Battleborn, her previous book, so I really want to try again!

message 81: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 63 comments One of the best books I read last year was The Rest of Us Just Live Here, I loved it so much.
Other books I love are:
Life As We Knew It
A Friend of the Earth
Ready Player One
I might read The 5th Wave and two-fer it by taking my kid to the movies to see it. :)

That's a really cool challenge! I'm turning 30 this year so maybe I'll try in celebration.

message 84: by Karin (new)

Karin (8littlepaws) | 119 comments Cash Crash Jubilee: Book One of the Jubilee Cycle ended up being a very clever, original pick for this challenge! Very cool postcapitalist worldbuilding.

Robin P Courtney wrote: "Robin wrote: "I was planning to read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang for the challenge I am doing of reading a book written in eve..."

Yes, it's been a good way for me to get through some of my many shelves of unread books, and I've tried to use them at the same time for other challenges like this one. I think the way it was set up was that if you are in your 20's you get you get 1 year to finish and you add 6 months for each decade after that, so at my advanced age, I get a total of 3 years.

message 86: by Alissa (new)

Alissa | 3 comments I'm a huge fan of this genre. Went with Oryx and Crake.

message 87: by Trudie (last edited Jan 12, 2016 09:03PM) (new)

Trudie (trudieb) Book 1/24 finished, Here is my review.Gold, Fame, Citrus, The book didn't quite gel with me, but would like others thoughts if anyone else is reading it. Onwards to historical fiction next ...

message 88: by Amy (new)

Amy | 18 comments I just finished The Girl with All the Gifts. I listened to the audio book and loved Finty Williams' narration.

message 89: by Barbara (new)

Barbara I'll probably either do Station Eleven, The Girl in the Road, or the new Justin Cronin that's scheduled to come out this year.

I listened to The Girl With all the Gifts last year, and I didn't love it. I didn't particularly like the narrator, and I was disappointed at the way the scientist was written. I may be a little oversensitive about it because I'm a biochemist, but we're not all sociopaths, and I get annoyed with the laziness of the "cold and cruel" scientist trope.

message 90: by Lucy (new)

Lucy | 13 comments I'm reading Brilliance by Marcus Sakey for my dystopian novel. Really good so far, and this isn't a genre I usually like so that is high praise ;)

message 91: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Fischer (stephfii) | 3 comments Does the Red Queen count as a Dystopian society book? I do think it is considered it, but I would like someone else's opinion. :)

message 92: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Pate | 1 comments I'm reading Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead: Invasion which will also satisfy the Horror genre task 1

message 93: by Elle (new)

Elle (elleay) | 68 comments Stephanie wrote: "Does the Red Queen count as a Dystopian society book? I do think it is considered it, but I would like someone else's opinion. :)"

Red Queen definitely has a dystopian society. Go for it!

message 94: by Angela (last edited Jan 14, 2016 10:29AM) (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 25 comments I'm going to start with Never Let Me Go, but can thoroughly recommend The Handmaid's Tale - an excellent read, in my opinion.

message 95: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (arsundbe) | 2 comments I am listening to The Bees by Laline Pauli, I just chose this book because it was available at the library and was on my TBR but as I'm listening to it, I definitely think that it could fall under the dystopian category.

message 96: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline | 3 comments I've had The Handmaid's Tale on my TBR pile for a while, so I'm reading this one.

message 97: by Brandi (new)

Brandi Blair | 2 comments https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... Finished this one for the challenge and bonus is that it's a 2-fer with Task 16: Read the first book in a series by a person of color.

I've just finished reading this one....really enjoyed it!

message 99: by Ramona (new)

Ramona Mead (ramonamead) I read Matched by Ally Condie and thoroughly enjoyed it. I never would have read this book on my own. My mom picked it up at a used book store and loved it so she passed it to me and I've had it on my shelf for a year. I didn't like The Hunger Games or The Maze Runner so I'd written off the entire genre. I enjoyed this one because it isn't quite as dark as those others and has a strong message of the importance of love, family and hope.

message 100: by Trina (new)

Trina (trinasum1) | 15 comments My book club is reading a few that I can probably count, but I wanted to recommend FEED by M.T. Anderson. It's a favorite!
