2016 Year Long Reading Challenge - Conquer Historical Romance

Seriously. I just can't get over it. I need to go back and read it again even though it's less than a yea..."
I would just like to add a third to The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie being an all time favorite book! Have you read any of the other Mackenzie books?

I've completed Georgian, Victorian and Civil War titles.

That VH book looks interesting.
Did you like SSL? I have a copy but I'm "saving it."

I didnt like it Andrea
I know many people like Rosemary Rogers' books, but its not to my liking
Did you like "Always to Remember"? I am thinking to read Runaway for civil war subgenre, but I haven't decided yet.

Nice, you're nearly finished! You can move up a level if you don't feel like finishing the challenge yet!

I haven't the slightest interest time travel in a HR.
Congrats on nearly finishing the challenge!
I'm thinking the point of the challenge is really pushing yourself to read books that you wouldn't normally read. ;)

as time travel or am I reaching?"
The time travel books I would highly recommend is Karen Marie Moning's Highlander series.

Not sure if Lord of Scoundrels counts as bodice ripper.

No Ally. Donot resign yet. Time travel is painful for me too. We have 9 more months ahead of us. At some point we might feel like completing the challenge. Lets keep our spirits up:)

I may substitute a different era/type of HR for time travel.

Don't give up! I recommend reading My Outlaw. I'm not fond of this genre as well but seriously this book? Whoa...

Finished 11 books. Yet to read time travel, civil war, native american and western

As far as rules are concerned, in many respects, I'm sometimes crippled by a lack of flexibility. This rigidity is one of the reasons why I struggle to CNF a book a "meh" book.
It would be a good exercise in flexibility if I can bring myself to substitute something for time travel category.
Maybe I can borrow "Outlander" from my sister if it's lendable. Blech.
I don't own any time travel books and I hate to spend money on something I expect to dislike.
I'm not crazy about "Western" category either. I usually avoid those. I'm not that crazy about cowboys. Maybe I'll try a mail order bride HR for this category.
Oh, I think I'd have to buy something for this category too!

Since this is the group's first challenge, I'll allow you guys to twist things a bit. ;)

Maybe try finding it at Half Price Books.

Once I got past the "contemporary" element at the beginning, it's ok, as in I think I can complete this book.

I couldnt get my hands on BOTM. So I read "Beyond the highland mist" by KMM instead. It didnt have much of "contemporary" part and once the time travel happened its all medieval age. So didnt have much problem there:)
Happy reading to you

I couldn't get BOTM either, so I'm reading "Intertwine" by Nichole Van.
The price was right--99 cents from the kindle store.
The time travel bit takes place in regency period around 1812.

I love Regency romances. Will try this book in the future

Aha! Then I will get this book soon:)

I never read m/f contemporary romance or contemporary fiction so I had to grin and bear that part--which I hated btw.
Hated the h in the contemporary part too.
I'm a couple of pages in where she is now telling yummy H about she's from 200 yrs into the future.
I liked the HR part of book set in the past.
I have a little under 100 more pages and I'd read this author if she wrote straight HR. Perhaps she does--I'll look into that.
After my debacle with the world-famous Julia Quinn and her latest book, I'm going to start trying the unknown authors that show up for free in my Bookbub feed.

It's a little before 3:30 am in my neck of the woods and I've just finished my "time travel.

Here is my review: here
this book is 99 cents at kindle store at amazon.com--money well-spent!
The two categories I've usually avoided, westerns and time travel were both 5-star reads.

I would have given 20 stars if I could. Some of EOs books are in kindle unlimited. I intend to read them.
If you haven't read your medieval, recent read of

This western and this medieval were both reccoed to me by people on my flist. Thank you Thank you...

I cost 99 cents at Amazon.com kindle store also it's in KU if you are a member.

Congrats! What time travel did you read?"
I read Beyond the Highland Mist

I loved it too. The part after the time travel.

I intend to complete this challenge, but I'll take it slow.
I'm doing the lowest level at 15 books.

Maybe I don't understand the definition of Bodice Ripper. I thought this was the easiest one!
What have you tried, and what did you not like?

I'm still plugging away.
My problem is that lately I keep participating in b-r and also reading this group's BOTM that both are neither eligible for my challenge. But I still have 7-8 more titles to read before I finish the challenge.
However, since I've joined this group, I've read more HR this year than I have for the 3 years since I joined GR.

Only three months more to finish our year long challenge. How far is everone through the challenge?
I finished level one and read a few sub genres for level 2. I am not sure if I can complete the level2.

Good question! I got stuck at time travel. I decided to take a break, but I better resume if I am going to finish. I will try to locate a book to start next week.

I was trying level 1 and only completed 7/15 books.
The good news is that I read 23 HR titles this year--more than I've managed to read in the past.
Two were 2nd reads of Georgette Heyer titles that I did not care for the first time, one was a reread of one of hers that I've read many times.
So excluding these three, I've read 20 new to me HR titles. Some of these were our BOTM. Some Others were other buddy reads.
I discovered some authors that were new to me that I really liked such as Janet Lane, Joanna Shupe, Rose Lerner and Ellen O'Connell.
This challenge, though unfinished by me forced me to read two types of HR that I would normally avoid, a western and timetravel.
In each case, I really enjoyed the titles that I selected.
The Western was a personal recco from someone on my flist. The time travel I stumbled upon it as a freebie offered by Amazon.
You might wonder why if I read 20 new HR titles, couldn't I complete this challenge?
At the outset, I thought that more of our botm here would line up with the categories of the challenge. This is not a criticism by any means, but a wrong assumption on my part.
I also failed to read The Highlander, the most recent book in the series. It's a failure because I was just wild about the first two books and it was a priority to read this asap. But I didn't get to it.
