The first sentence game
Here's one from a well known book published in 1977 that a number of people read earlier this year:"On December 8th, 1915, Meggie Cleary had her fourth birthday."
Well, I don't have a clue, Carolyn, so maybe you should give us one...oh wait, Colleen McCullough? The Thorn Birds??
Read it a long long time ago! OK this one's 2 sentences as the first is too short"The blow put Sarah on the ground. That she was suddenly horizontal registered in her mind, then the pain came rushing through, washing over every other detail"
Australian author, female, 2013, Brenda, Sharon, Vicki, Suzanne have all read it, on my TBR, Julie's
Seems like I might have to add some clues. This was a winner of the Children's Book Council award some years back. Written by a female Aussie author who is sadly no longer with us.
I am stumped. Come on Brenda - that clue should inspire you - a female Aussie writer who is no longer with us.
I have no idea Phrynne...tried to work it out but it wouldn't come. Ruth Park is the only Aussie author who's passed away that I can think of off the top of my head!
Michael wrote: "The October Child by Eleanor Spence??"Yes Michael. Well done! A great author and a great lady. You should read it Brenda. A great book. I have it on my shelves as one I own,
Your turn Michael.
Ok here is mine...'It ain't long now before Hawk comes to fetch me, to scrape his brother off the floor of Brodie's sly grog shop'.
I think you gave your answer in the first post Zoey:) But I don't want to look for another at this stage;)
